Great Moments In Movie Shelves #169

.
"Library, complete with ivory tower."

"Oh. I can't go in there. My... mother. That smell."

"It's just stale air."

"No no, that other smell."

"Smells sweet to me, honey. At twenty-five cents
a book I should do alright with this room, huh?"

I know I'm not the only person that harbors ill wishes toward the character of Luke in the original film of The Haunting, since they went out of their way to give him some just desserts...

... in the execrable 1999 remake. (Literally the only good thing to come out of that dreck is that gif.) But him talking about dissembling that gorgeous library, even if it is cluttered with homicidal ghouls and bent-neck ladies, well, it's a step too far, Luke.

I have now in the past three weeks watched all three versions of Shirley Jackson's classic ghost story - Wise's original, that dastardly remake, and Mike Flanagan's 10-episode series for Netflix - and I recommend the book-ends enthusiastically. The series ends with a bit of a whimper but it's shockingly effective for the most part. Read my previous thoughts here.

Still nothing tops the 1963 film - it remains, I think, the greatest Haunted House Movie ever made (give or take The Innocents) - as I re-watched it last night for the first time in many years (you can read my real-time Twitter thoughts with some lovely gifs in this thread here) I was surprised and astonished anew by how dynamic and modern and ahead-of-its-time Wise's camera-work is in the film.

Michiel Huisman Five Times

.
My great big work-load got chopped in half this weekend due to this cold that won't quit, and so I ended up marooned on my couch for more than I'd been anticipating -- not too shabby a fate when all ten episodes of Mike Flanagan's The Haunting of Hill House just dropped, it turned out. Did anybody else plow through it like me?

As was clear from my breathless posts leading up to it I was looking forward to the series - Flanagan's time and again proven himself better than expectations - but I was still surprised by how scary and, surprisingly, moving, I ended up finding the show. I don't want to say too much since the series is only four days old at this point and I'm sure many of you need to catch up, but I will share this tweet...
.

... which uh yes got that response from Michiel Huisman himself. (Not to mention liked by both Oliver Jackson-Cohen and Carla Gugino, too.) Much humor was had in my household this weekend about me eloping with Michiel, believe you me. Anyway I posted some of this photo-shoot before but I think the rest of the shots got lost when our old Tumblr got deleted, so hit the jump for them, and if you have thoughts on the show hit the comments...

The Huisman of Hill House

.
I don't want to turn my few hours per day not inside NYFF screenings into 1) me talking about how busy I am with NYFF screenings and 2) a series of posts on trailers that've been released while I was in those screenings, but here we are and it's my second one of these today. Oh well. The least I can do as I catch up is also share that lovely photo of Michiel Huisman in a turtleneck and oh hey how about this gif of him in that Potato Peel Pie movie of his?

Jesus, this man is such a freak. I hate him. (I love him.) Anyway we're posting Huisman because we've got the trailer for the Haunting of Hill House series Netflix is premiering on October 12th to share, which has him opposite Carla Gugino and Oliver Jackson- Cohen and so forth, see our previous posts here. Getting High On Your Own Supply

.
If you head over to The Film Experience I just listed some of my favorite female performances in Brian De Palma movies in honor the his 78th birthday today. And don't be surprised if you see that lovely lady above there...

Pics of the Day

.
Netflix has released the first batch of photos from their upcoming miniseries adaptation of Shirley Jackson's book The Haunting of Hill House - see the rest at EW. As we've covered extensively the series is from Gerald's Game director Mike Flanagan and it stars Michiel Huisman and Carla Gugino...

... and Oliver Jackson Cohen and yadda yadda other people yadda. That threesome is plenty for us! Anyway Netflix also announced that the show will drop in forty-six days, better known as October 12th, just in time for the spooky seasonal greetings of All Hallows. Boo!

Good Morning, World

.
Let us all come together to wish Oliver Jackson-Cohen a very happy 31st birthday today! Oliver was last seen being oh so dashing and gay, oh so gay, opposite James McArdle in the WWII half of Man in an Orange Shirt, the BBC's recent homosexual miniseries that also starred Julian Morris and some lady named Vanessa Redgrave. We covered it quite a bit, click through here for that.

Next up for Olly, and I somehow crazily missed this fantastic news, is Netflix's mini-series version of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House - when we last heard the series was going to star Michiel Huisman, which was exciting enough. But there's been a lot more casting since then - the ten-hour series will also star Oliver here, not to mention Carla Gugino, Henry Thomas, and Timothy Hutton. The series will reunite two of those folks - Gugino and Thomas - with their Gerald's Game director Mike Flanagan, who is running the thing. (And that's a creepy reunion between actors if you've watched Gerald's Game by now, which I sure hope you have.)

Anyway back to the Birthday Boy Oliver - I love how gratuitous that shot there is of Oliver buttoning up his trousers, don't you? I throw the word "gratuitous" around a lot but that is truly, lovingly gratuitous. props to the folks who made the shitty Dracula series a couple of years ago, which is what this is from. Anyway click through our Oliver archives for lots more!

This Is No Game This Is Really Happening

.
It feels tempting to say after the election in November that we live in an age outwardly proud of its bully mentality - the bad guy won, and he won by climbing on the backs of the downtrodden and happily pissing on their heads. The weak and the wounded, the exploited, they're nothing but grist for a 24/7 outrage mill now.

But can we really say this is anything new? Yeah the face the boogeyman is wearing today is an especially cartoonish one - bloated and frozen in a pompous grimace of piggish exemption - but this horror's a horror as old as time. Just ask any minority ever. They know what's out there, lurking.

Gerald's Game tells the story of a woman abused her whole life, worn down to the plastic shell of a person, and how at her weakest point, at rock bottom, here come the jackals. They smell it. The horrors. The sniff out the gristle, the exquisite tears - to them a collection of bones and shiny things glistening inside a briefcase, our pain. It sparkles and gives them their meaning, the nightmare men in roaming the night - life to them is other people's agony torn off in chunks between their teeth, one bite at a time.

At the Gates of Hell stands a dog, multi-headed, and he gives us quite a fright. But he is not Hell - he is not the devil himself. Cerberus is only an omen of the real horror inside - the ones that feast upon our suffering stand on two legs. And it is they that grind us down, down, into dust, all the better to swallow our souls.

King's story understood this - Jessie's journey is a journey through Hell itself, through all the torment that men can thrust upon her body and her mind - and the film does a smashing job, mostly thanks to Carla Gugino's grand slam of a full-bodied breakdown, of getting that across. By the time the choice is clear we understand - the only way out is through. Through the nightmares, through the bad memories and through the rotten meat. We will skin ourselves and start fresh, motherfuckers.

Kink & Circumstance

.
"The Year of Stephen King" continues with both the release of It this Friday (there's a great story-tall billboard on the street here in NYC that I just spied this morning) and now here with the trailer the very next thing, our greatly anticipated Gerald's Game movie, which hits Netflix on September 29th. It stars perennially underrated Carla Gugino and Hot Daddy Bruce Greenwood...

... as a kinky blessedly-adult couple gone wrong, and while the trailer gives a lot away it doesn't give away what I was afraid it would give away, aka the section of the book that kept me up the entire night I read the book, and for that I am glad. Watch:

Pic of the Day

.
A lot of festival news today -- Austin's Fantastic Fest, which takes place the last week of September, has announced its line-up and they've got several big titles, including the one seen above (click to embiggen) - that's Carla Gugino and Bruce Greenwood in Gerald's Game, the other Stephen King adaptation coming out this fall that we're terribly excited about. When I read Gerald's Game a couple of years ago for the first time it scared the pants off of me, and it appears to have done the same to the actors.

You can read the whole line-up over at DH - they've also got Yorgos Lanthimos' The Killing of a Sacred Deer & Martin McDonagh's Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri -- I wish I could go.

Who Will Watch The Watchmen

.
A lot of people hated Zack Snyder's 2009 film adaptation of Watchmen - I was not one of those people. It is admittedly goofy times infinity at times, and the quality of the performances are all over the map, but all things considered I find a lot to like about it. What is good - Jackie Earle Haley, Carla Gugino, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson's Ass - is very good, and I've found the film immensely rewatchable; I always get caught up in it when it's on TV. Snyder's schtick may've grown wearisome over his subsequent projects but he was still a director worth watching as of this movie.

Anyway the news hit last night that Damon Lindelof, the man behind Lost and The Leftovers, has now gotten his hands on Alan Moore's superhero comic deconstruction, and he's turning it into a series for HBO. I am... of mixed emotions on this. I feel as if my emotions would be less mixed if the actual finale, the final hour, of The Leftovers hadn't been so gosh-darn good - I was not a fan of the show even though I inexplicably kept watching...
.

... I might've quit it after the wet fart of a second season but when they announced the third was their last I figured I'd suffer through. Again there were enough goods in the good column to make it worthwhile - Ann Dowd, Carrie Coon, Justin Theroux's Ass.

But I felt very little for most of the characters by the end - they'd become so enmeshed in silly mystery I couldn't even see who they were anymore. Which is the same fate that struck Lost. And so I wonder if Lindelof might again get so wrapped up in Quirk & Circumstance that he can't see Dr. Manhattan's big blue beating heart for his big blue swinging dick.

Although dream casting the series could be fun, too!
Who would you cast now as The Watchmen?

The Haunting of Michiel Huisman

.
I love the thought of hirsute Dutch beauty Michiel Huisman being our latest Scream Queen, don't you? Last year the Game of Thrones hunk starred in Karyn Kusama's fantabulous film The Invitation (which gave me many a tossing turning night) and his chest co-starred opposite Blake Lively (which is its own sort of nightmare) and now he's signed up to lead the cast of the new House on Haunted Hill adaptation that Netflix is putting on.

We already told you about this project back in April when it was announced but let us now recap -- Shirley Jackson's classic book (about a group of psychically sensitive folks camping out in a thought haunted manse) is being turned into a ten-hour series for the streamer by director Mike Flanagan. Flanagan previously made the Ouija sequel, which was totally shockingly decent, and before this series is out he'll have released his film version of Stephen King's marvelously scary book Gerald's Game with the ace perfect casting of Carla Gugino in its lead.

Michiel is the first cast-member that's been announced - I believe he's playing the role that Russ Tamblyn played in the great 1963 film and that Owen Wilson played in the 1999 abortion, although they've changed the character's name. (I mean just look at the color schemes in those two pictures above to judge which movie worked and which one didn't.) The character is the remaining heir of the house who is behind bringing everybody in to see just how haunted it is. And I guess we'll have to wait and see if they knock his head off in the fireplace this time or not...

I Am Link

.
--- Blow For Diego - The remake of Scarface might have lost its director, Training Day and Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua, but it gained a star and with him my interest - Diego Luna will play the coke-sniffing big friend to little friends himself! Yes, yes, yes, sign me up. Now a suggestion (NOW a suggestion?) -- they should just hire Brian DePalma to make the movie. And Michelle Pfeiffer could totally still play the love interest. You're welcome.
.
--- Unholy Woman - Have any of you ever gotten around to watching the horror film The Hallow? It's been on Netflix for awhile; I got to see it on the big screen back in October 2015 it thanks to FSLC's "Scary Movies" series here in New York, and I liked it rather a lot. You should check it out! Especially now that its director Corin Hardy has signed on to make the Conjuring 2 spin-off film The Nun. Based on, you know, that scary nun. The nun was actually my favorite part of that movie, and Hardy's a solid director, so this might be good.
  .
--- Sex Games - The only reason to give a shit about that space movie out this weekend is it gave people an excuse to talk to Carla Gugino, and Den of Geek was smart enough to ask her about her upcoming Stephen King adaptation Gerald's Game, which we are very very very much looking forward to. And so is she, apprently! She sounds very excited. Anyway she's the best casting decision they could have made, and after watching Ouija: Origin of Evil (which shockingly doesn't suck) we know the director's somebody to watch out for too.
.
--- White Man Walking - If they were better quality or more exciting I would've given these their own post, because I am really incredibly enthusiastic in my hopes for the film, but the first two pictures of Michael Fassbender in Tomas Alfredson's The Snowman are  just Michael Fassbender standing around in some snow, so they just get linked. Alfredson is the director of Let the Right One In and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and the film's based on a book series about a serial-killer hunting detective... and yes this is the one where his character is named Harry Hole. We are never ever going to get over that.
.
--- Bearded When Wet - While everybody else was all excited that Nicole Kidman is going to play Jason Momoa's mother in Aquaman (if you look closely Nicole's stretched-tight face and Momoa's puffy right pec are actually dead ringers so that's pretty spot-on casting if you ask me) I was paying attention to the news that and actor named Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast as Black Manta, the film's big villain... because dude (as seen to the side there) is certainly a great big strapping bearded gentleman, he is. I guess he was on Baz Luhrmann's Netflix show The Get Down, which I tried to watch but only made it partially through before completely forgetting to finish it.
.
-- And Speaking of actors I love working with directors I love (there's a lot of that news today actually) Colin Farrell is in talks to star (well co-star) in the new film from Dan Gilroy, who made the great Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal. A little dampening of my positive vibe here though - Colin would co-star opposite Denzel Washington, who will inevitably devour the scenery and overshadow Colin every chance he gets, because Denzel is incapable of dialing it down anymore. (I don't care what you people say - he's terrible in Fences.) Anyway the movie's called Inner City and it's a legal thriller.
.
--- Crazy Pants - Cary Fukunaga is finally doing something! Hurray! I mean one can only spend so much time braiding one's hair, right? His ten-episode Netflix series Maniac, reuniting Superbad's Emma Stone and Jonah Hill in something that does not sound very Superbad-like at all, is set to shoot later this year. Then again he was only weeks away from shooting his adaptation of Stephen King's It and that fell apart, so let's not hold our breath. Those braids won't braid themselves. Maniac tells the story of a couple of mental patients (literal, not figurative) and their elaborate fantasy worlds.
.
--- There Will Be Dresses - You probably already saw this but Paul Thomas Anderson has begun shooting his new movie (still untitled) with Daniel Day-Lewis. DDL was spied on set! Pictures here! And The Playlist tells us that it "will follow the life behind the curtain of an uncompromising dressmaker commissioned by royalty and high society," so there's that. Oh and a couple of other people will also act in the movie (even though it could just be a camera staring at DDL and be riveting, obviously) - the great Lesley Manville being one of them! We love her and never get to see her, so good work casting her PTA. But the best news of all is the most obvious news of all - Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood is scoring the movie. Jonny, if you're listening, a thought - write all new material this time. I need to see a member of Radiohead clutching an Oscar before I die.
.
--- And Finally hey look it's a picture of Michael Haneke and Jean-Louis Trintignant on the set of their new film together (via), which is called Happy End. It will obviously be a feel-good romp. They worked together on Amour last; Isabelle Huppert is also in the film. If I had to guess this movie won't be until Cannes next spring, but who knows. Ya ain't getting any younger, Michael.

Let's Go to Bed with Carla Gugino

.
I honestly don't think they could've made a better choice, casting-wise - it's just been announced that Carla Gugino is going to star in Gerald's Game, an adaptation of Stephen King's 1992 novel from director Mike Flanagan. Flanagan has made a few mildly successful horror movies over the past couple of years - if you're a horror nerd then you've probably seen Oculus or Hush or Absentia; the Ouija sequel that comes out this Friday is also him.

Anyway I am a pretty big fan of the book Gerald's Game (there's a scene in the book that shook me up terribly) so I have been keeping an eye on the development of this one, and I couldn't be happier with the casting of Gugino, a tremendously talented and continually underrated actress. It's also great news that they cast an adult woman here - the role calls for an grown-ass adult but you know how Hollywood mucks such business up - I'm surprised they didn't cast Elle Fanning. (Nothing against Elle, of course!)

Only click over to read the news at Deadline (thx Mac) if you've already read the book because their plot description gives away far too much plot. I only knew the sex-games angle when I read the book and that's plenty. Try to keep yourself unspoiled, people! The terrific Bruce Greenwood has also been cast as Gugino's husband in the film - their casting director deserves a damn raise. Rounding out the cast are Henry Thomas (yes E.T.'s Henry Thomas) and Carel Struycken, the seven-foot-tall actor who played "The Giant" on Twin Peaks and Lurch in the Addams Family movies, and if you have read Gerald's Game then you totally know who he's playing and I share with you all the creeping gooseflesh that you're now experiencing.

Bring Me the Head of Michael Shannon

.
The Tribeca Film Festival may've ended this past weekend but we've still got a few reviews to come from it over at The Film Experience - just now my review of Wolves, a coming-of-age sports flick directed by Mr Julianne Moore, has gone up so click over to read all about it. It stars Michael Shannon and Carla Gugino and that's all you need to know to want to see it, no matter what I say.

I Am Link

.
--- Queer Pioneer - There are a couple of great series coming up at movie-houses here in New York City that I feel the need to mention, even if only briefly. First, MoMA is doing a retrospective of queer-punk Bruce La Bruce's films (stuff like Hustler White and Raspberry Reich) at the end of April - the most awkward movie-going experience of my life was in college sitting between my best friend and this guy I had a huge crush on while watching the X-rated version of Skin Flick, which is basically skinhead porn. I know I put on an aggressive front here at the blog but in real life I'm kind of a wallflower and I was not comfortable in that place! Point being I probably won't go to any of these movies because I'm too shy but I do think BLB can be interesting. Behind closed doors. (I really like Otto, or Up With Dead People.)

--- Slasher Up - The other exciting movie series coming up here in New York is Anthology Film Archive's second Giallo series - the first one a couple of years ago was a trip and a half and they've got some great titles lined up for this sequel, including stuff by Argento and Bava and Lenzi and Fulci and all the big names in Italian yellow. Anthology's website is still stuck in the dark ages so read this piece at Fangoria, it's easier to rifle through the titles that way.

--- Maxwell Man - I considered doing this as a "Quote of the Day" but it's actually kind of vague a quote when I looked at it so we'll just stick it here instead - Queerty has a nice little interview with 70s and 80s stud Maxwell Caulfiend (I guess he's doing some play right now) and he talks about the experience of being a hot piece of ass in New York City before AIDS wrecked everything and oh, such wistful thoughts, thinking about sleeping with Maxwell Caulfield in 1978 or so. (See some fine pictures of vintage Maxwell here.)

--- Big Beasts - Yeah yeah I know this news is like a week old but I haven't done one of these link round-ups since it broke so sue me - Cary Fukunaga's flick with Idris Elba, the African child-soldier drama Beasts of No Nation, was bought by Netflix for 12 million smackeroos. They plan on gunning for Oscar gold with it too - we'll see how well the movie-theaters comply; they're already grumbling about Netflix's release plans, which will probably include a quick switch-over to online after a theatrical run.

--- Pratt & Chan - So apparently the news about the Dude Ghostbusters movie with Channing Tatum last night was slightly bungled by Sony - it's not about an alternate Male Team of Busters, but rather it's going to spin off of Feig's movie and be about Channing and Chris Pratt (!!!), who are friends or something in the same universe that Melissa McCarthy & Friends are fighting the ghosts in. And there are plans for a third movie where everybody teams up, Avengers-style. Studios really just aren't even pretending to try anymore, are they?

--- Deep Water - I love it when somebody else does all the work for me - DH rounded up a few new images from movies of interest and there actually are several shots of interest to us for good (well gratuitous reasons) - there's the first picture of Taron Egerton, recently seen as the hot lead piece in Kingsman: The Secret Service, buddying up with his new co-star Hugh "Hands On A Hard Twink" Jackman while wearing ski-spandex. There's a picture of Luke Evans in a wet wifebeater for High Rise, Ben Wheatley's daptation of JG Blallard's book. And there's a picture of Garrett Hedlund doing what he do, being beautiful. Oh and Chiwetel Ejiofor in a suit.

--- Find Me A Find - I haven't properly linked up to The Film Experience's annual "We Can't Wait!" series yet so let's do that - here's the newest entry: coming in at #12 is The Dressmaker, which stars Kate Winslet and Judy Davis and that's all you need to know before you buy your ticket, really. There are links therein for the earlier couple of entries, which include the new Tarantino (yes) and the new Malick (no!).

--- The Faceless Man - I s'pose this is spoilery but who cares, it's great news - German hot-piece Tom Wlaschiha (see just how hot he is in this gratuitous post) is definitely returning to A Game of Thrones; he hasn't been on since the second season, but it would appear that Arya want his hotness back in her life, as do we. She's grown so super wise. Anyway we'd heard this rumored but now it's for sure. Given the nature of his character he could've been recast so phew, bullet dodged!

--- And Finally here is the latest trailer (via) for San Andreas, aka that earthquake movie starring The Rock. (See previous trailer here.) I love disaster movies so so much and I am so on-board for this, especially if they keep highlighting Carla Gugino running around in five-inch heeled boots and jeans it took four people to get her into. (Pictures of Colton Haynes getting gang-banged by firemen also don't hurt.) Bring on the ridiculousness!!!

I Am Link

.
--- Horror Heavies - When I heard that Ryan Murphy was going to be making a new series a la American Horror Story for FOX that would be slasher-specific and called Scream Queens I did think to myself, "Ooh imagine Jamie Lee Curtis!" Actually I've he should add JLC to AHS every season. So here we are and JLC, the ultimate Scream Queen, the Queen of the Scream Queens, is doing the show. (The Scream Queens show, that is, not AHS.) I am the screaming queen right now, screaming with joy. She's being joined by Ryan's bestie Emma Roberts (graduate of AHS and the fourth Scream movie) and I know it's kind of an unpopular opinion but after a rocky start I've grown to kinda like Emma. So I'm cool.

--- Speaking Of AHS though our pal Jarett at BuzzFeed talked to Evan Peters about the new season of American Horror Story (I keep waiting for him and Dandy and the twins to have a four-way, waiting and waiting and waiting) and Evans comes off as a total sweetheart. I hope Emma Roberts doesn't beat him up anymore.

--- Weed Whacker - This isn't a tremendously interesting interview with Idris Elba really (number of times he talks about his penis: zero) but he does talk about that thing Dave Chapelle said about Idris being his pot dealer, which I'm surprised he hadn't heard about until the interviewer asked him.
.
--- Game Of Cups - IndieWire dug up some details on Terrence Malick's two gestating movies, the one with Christian Bale (which involves him wrestling in the sand with Wes Bentley) and the one with Ryan Gosling & Michael Fassbender - naturally it's the latter we're more invested in since they were Ryan & Michael spotted all handsy on the set. The movie's described as "a tale of two intersecting love triangles, sexual obsession and betrayal" and we're down with the "sexual obsession" part. (Although has Malick actually ever been sexy?)

--- Mama Slash - Somebody once upon a time flipped my hate-switch with regards to everything that the studio behind the new Friday the 13th movies tries to do, and so once again here I am, finding everything they say just dumb when in theory I maybe shouldn't - sounds like they want his mom to be a character alongside Jason in the next movie? All I can for-see is a bunch of unnecessary back-story getting shoved down our throats. Keep it simple, stupids!

--- The Big One - The first few pictures of The Rock running away from apparently an earthquake in the big-budget disaster movie San Andreas have shown up (hi Carla Gugino!), you can see them here; Dwayne's looking so enormous these days isn't he? Like that's a big hunka rock right there. I am seriously excited about this movie though, I love me a disaster movie.

--- Forget It - I'm super glad that Michael C wrote this review at The Film Experience of Julianne Moore's Oscar-possible flick-in-waiting Still Alice cuz he said what I'd have said and now I don't have to bother. Juli's really terrific in it but the movie itself is kind of a pile of goo. (And god the dainty little score got on my nerves.)

I Am Link

.
--- Rock A Boy - Pretty, gay block-of-wood Colton Haynes just got cast alongside The Rock and Carla Gugino (hooray) in that giant 3D earthquake movie called San Andreas; I wonder if the fault line will crack him into little wooden shards? Anyway the film just started filming, and Dwayne Johnson tweeted out a picture of him being him on the set. Big Man!

--- Kid Napping - The trailer for Atom Egoyan's new movie called The Captive, which stars Ryan Reynolds (trying his hand at seriousness these days) and Scott Speedman and Rosario Dawson can be seen over at The Playlist; it will be showing at Cannes too. You've got to wonder if Prisoners might've stolen some of its momentum though; it feels very similar. But that's a good cast.

--- The Missing E - Everything about the movie Sx_Tape - from its silly title to its found-footage gimmick to its Paranormal Activity by way of porn poster to its very story (a couple films a sex tape inside a haunted mansion!) - screamed derivative Skinemax crap at me... so why do I care? Because its directed by Bernard effin' Rose, that's why - Rose directed Candyman yes but even more importantly he directed Paperhouse, the 1988 kid-scare flick that's amongst my all-time favorites. He has me for life. I will watch your sex tape movie.

--- Raising Hell - Saving this for lunch-time reading - the director of the interesting horror flick Proxy, which I reviewed a few months ago and is out on demand now, got interviewed by the New York Times (thanks Mac), which seems to me a pretty big deal for a dude who made a low-budget horror-flick, so a round of applause for him.

--- Doling Out - The Playlist has another picture from Xavier Dolan's next movie which is called Mommy, and which will be showing at Cannes. That's Antoine-Olivier Pilon as the troubled son at the center of the film's drama. Speaking of Cannes though, the entire list of what's playing there was just released, see that here. They're showing the long delayed Ruffalo-Tatum jockstrap movie!

--- Drive By Fruiting - My first thought when I read the news that there is going to be a Mrs. Doubtfire sequel was, "What will Mara Wilson say?" She played the little girl in that movie and she's established somewhat of an online presence via Twitter lately; I saw her at a show talking about it a couple of years ago and she is a smart lady. Anyway she does indeed have things to say!

--- Wet All Over - It's April which means Nathaniel's been running his "April Showers" series over at The Film Experience which means sexytimes because he always picks good showers scenes... like last night he devoted a post to the scene with Bruce Willis in the shower in Pulp Fiction, which besides just for giving us naked Bruce Willis is also the best scene in the whole movie for many other reasons. (But then I've never been the world's biggest Pulp fan; it took Jackie Brown to get me on board with Tarantino.)

--- Also Thanks to Nat for reminding me of this interview with Anthony Mackie from a couple of weeks ago where he goes on and on about Chris Evans' tight little ass, I somehow forgot to post that. That's the sort of thing you don't want to forget! NEVER FORGET.
