Would That It Werwulf So Simple

Yesterday while I luxuriated in a full day of "Scary Movies" screenings the fine folks at Focus Features dropped the gorg new poster for Robert Eggers' Werwulf -- and star Aaron Taylor-Johnson might be far more nude than I was but he's decidedly less luxurious, twisting himself into knots one assumes mid-transformation. It is, as with all things Eggers touches, simple yet exquisite -- carving a myth down to its old-school fundamentals. That curs-ed hand in front of the moon will be giddy-making for any monster-kid, meaning that yes I have already dug around looking to see if they're selling this print yet. (No they are not.) Still plenty of time given the movie doesn't drop til Christmas -- here's the teaser trailer (full of Aaron butt!) in case you missed it. Or should I say myssed it? I have to tell you, I really had to fight the instinct not to spell everything in butchered faux-Olde-English in this post. You're welcome.

Good Morning, Werwulf

Even though we got our first official still from Robert Eggers' Werwulf last week I did not expect them to be dropping the trailer this soon -- but they did! It's here! Even though the movie's not out until Christmas. I'm sure we'll get longer clips and teases closer to the release but honestly I am fine with this two minute long smorgasbord of gross images flashing by, up to and including...

... two count them two...

... looks at Aaron Taylor-Johnson starkers mid-transformation. What else do you need? (Apologies that I did not gif Lily-Rose Depp's hairlip even though I know you were shouting "Hairlip, hairlip!") Anyway obviously this is the movie I most want to see that remains in 2026 -- this is always the case when there's a Robert Eggers movie... well unless there's a Luca movie, I guess. But then it depends on subject matter. And Aaron's flexing buttocks do a lot of heavy lifting on they're lonesome. Anyway! It's Monday, I am not awake yet, just watch the trailer and buy your tickets when you can:

Quote of the Day

Ever since Robert Eggers got endless press for the Naked Volcano Fight between Alexander Skarsgård and Claes Bang in The Northman (even if it did eventually end up going to Austin Powers extremes to keep the dicks hidden) it seems he's gotten the memo to bring up how he's getting his actors naked with every new movie, and here we are. Our favorite goth-freak writer-director talked to Esquire today about his upcoming film Werwulf starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, sharing the above first official look at him, and tossing in this comment just for shits 'n giggles:

"It was kind of unlike anything that any of us on set have ever seen. He spent I-don't-know-how-much time naked in the rain and snow, covered in blood, and doing this intense physical bodywork. It was months of training in prep and throughout production to get it all perfect."

He's talking there about Aaron working with the same movement coach who got Lily-Rose Depp to go to such extremes physically in Nosferatu -- if you know anything about me you probably know that the naked transformation scene of David Naughton in An American Werewolf in London was, uhh, a pivotal moment. So per usual Eggers is speaking my language. Not that I'd expect different. I don't know anything about his personal life but... him and Ari Aster... they both leave me with some questions, I'll just say that. Anyway Werwulf is out on Christmas Day -- I love that Eggers has claimed the counterprogramming slot for the holidays, I really do. The only Christmas Carol movie I will ever watch in the future is if he makes one. Oh and PS Werwulf has an Instagram account now, follow it here. Or just keep checking MNPP since I will post anything and everything the literal second it drops anyway. In related news I posted the following yesterday so obviously I made this interview happen, you're welcome:

Good Morning, World

I can't believe I almost forgot about this shot in Fuze, director David Mackenzie's weird little action-thriller starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James -- Aaron's world-class bum laid out for us and I totally spaced. Just tells you what kind of a head-space I'm in I guess. 2026! One hell of a year y'all. Anyway at least we have that gif to show for it. For my previous posts on Fuze click here -- I kind of liked the movie? I like that you think it's going to be this generic thing but then it is not, at all -- I'm just not sold that all the twists it takes make total sense. It gets a little silly but hell, give me silly over boring any day. Especially with Aaron and Theo around.(and taking their clothes off). If they'd added a sexy component -- if everybody had been boinking each other like in certified masterpiece Wild Things -- we coulda had a real camp classic on our hands. When will these straight filmmakers learn...

Good Morning, World

Let it be known that I do, on occasion, listen to you people -- somebody left a comment the other day (I am way too lazy at 9am to go look up who) chastising me for not posting the new photos of Aaron Taylor-Johnson doing his perfume thing (see the previous ones here) -- thing is this was the only new one I could find? I'm not knocking that singular photograph, which is A LOT and I love making its tender acquaintance. But if I am indeed missing more please point me in that direction and I will again dutifully share. Anyway pleasure aside, a bit of business to attend to -- I'm heading upstate for a family visit for several days tomorrow morning, so it'll be shutters on MNPP until one week from today. We'll be back up and posting our light smut soliloquies come Wednesday the 13th. So enjoy me while ya gotta me, people.

Good Morning, World

You know as long as Aaron Taylor-Johnson doesn't want to have sex with me -- and by all accounts (to date) he does not -- then I guess it's not so bad that he's married to a woman who will take very attractive shirtless photos of her husband reasonably often and then upload them onto the internet. It could be worse -- him not wanting to have sex with me, that is. He could be with someone who (understandably) kept him all to her/himself! I would be that person. I would so totally be that person. You'd never see him again if he was mine! I guess saying things like this on the internet is probably a part of why he doesn't want to have sex with me. Alas. I must speak my truth.

Call Me By Your Johnson

Well this sure is a neat-o news announcement -- Netflix is turning Call Me By Your Name author André Aciman's 2017 book Enigma Variations into a limited series, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to star! I read this way back when it came out in 2017, right in the dizzying heights of CMBYN mania, but haven't read it since so my memory is hella hazy -- here is how Variety describes the book:

"The official logline states that the show follows Paul, “a man remade by the lovers who ignite and undo him across ten transformative years. It’s an intimate yet sweeping portrait of masculinity, sexuality, and modern love—and in a world of endless choices, it asks the question: will we know when we’ve found the one?”

I doubt I'll go back and read it again since it'll be nice to be slightly surprised by where the story goes as we watch, but it's about goddamned time ATJ did something directly appealing to his many many gay fans (besides all the nudity, I mean) -- we've been propping you up through many the flop, my man. We have earned this. To anybody who read the book and remembers a damn thing about it -- how much "sexuality" stuff we talking anyway? I really cannot for the life of me remember anything that happens in this. Memory-holed...

Good Morning, World

The first trailer for David "Hell or High Water" Mackenzie's film Fuze starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Sam Worthington and Gugu Mbatha-Raw dropped yesterday and hilariously kicks off with these two shots of Aaron half-naked -- I love being pandered to. Watch the trailer here. I told you about this movie previously when Aaron & Theo were announced as co-stars because obviously, although there's not much in the way of interaction (i.e. explicit oral sex) between them in this trailer -- let's hope that changes for the final product. I don't see a release date yet so just twiddle your damn thumbs til then!

I should add that Theo & Aaron were very much seen hanging out on set together (see below sexy evidence) so let's hope this movie does actually understand its assignment:

Pic of the Day

Here is a lovely behind-the-scenes picture from that Paris fashion event where three-quarters of the Heated Rivalry cast were in attendance that I posted about last week; this captures an intimate moment between actors François Arnaud & Robbie G.K... awwwww, everybody say awwwww. All that whilst Aaron Taylor-Johnson lurks in the background like a waiter? No seriously I totally thought Aaron was a waiter in this photo right until I was about to load it here on the site -- if you don't zoom in it sort of looks like he's wearing an apron, I think? Anyway we know Aaron was also there because see below, but it's kinda wild how much that shaggy hair ages him -- Arnaud, who's five years Aaron's elder, looks like a baby beside him. This post is really just me telling Aaron to cut his hair please. The gay boys are overtaking you! (Would pay to watch.)

I Am Jack's Big Bone Temple

Heading off-line a little early today for a second viewing of The Bone Temple -- I really prefer nixing the "28 Years Later" portion of this movie's title; it's just more fun this way. Anyway that means this will be it for today, I'm afraid. Not that getting to stare at Jack O'Connell's gorgeous face above could be seen by any person with sight as a negative. You'll be okay. JFC he's pretty. Anyway if you've been paying attention you know that I've already shared the briefest of thoughts on The Bone Temple right here, which are quite a positive switch-up from my thoughts on the first 28 Years Later movie, which I reviewed right here -- but no need to pay attention to those really since my full review of The Bone Temple will be out before the end of the week. But I will say that I re-watched the first film of this new series over the weekend and it did indeed play slightly better going back after The Bone Temple. Maybe by the time this supposed trilogy's through we'll really have something proper to reckon with, as a whole. Anyway y'all stay safe out there -- I know the world's shit so I'm gonna keep trying to bring you mindless distraction for when you need a break. Case in point:

Jack O'Connell is the most important suspenders actor we have

Pics of the Day

The first photos of Aaron Taylor-Johnson on the set of Robert Eggers' now-filming horror film Werewulf (via) are the literal platonic ideal of what we would hope the first photos of Aaron Taylor-Johnson on the set of Robert Eggers' now-filming horror film Werewulf would be -- Aaron Taylor-Johnson half-naked, howling ferally and covered in blood! Huzzah -- we won, kids! It's giving me The Northman meets Nosferatu -- big shock, that combo. Anyway see my previous post on the film, which is already set to open on Christmas 2026, right here. And hit the jump for the rest of the pics...

Sing Me a Song of Beautiful Men

Well here's some news tailor-made (heh see what I did there) for MNPP -- former designer turned movie director Tom Ford (now you see what I did there) has announced his next film and it's an adaptation of Anne Rice's book Cry To Heaven about 18th Century Italian Opera. None of those things are really the specific things that make this a tight fit onto our interests -- it's all about the cast, baby. Namely it will star (among others) Nicholas Hoult, George MacKay, Colin Firth, Paul Bettany, Mark Strong, Theodore Pellerin, Daryl McCormack and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Phew! Several of those people have worked with Ford before: Hoult and Firth were both in A Single Man of course....

... sorry I can't mention that fact without posting that gif; it's written into my contract. And then Aaron Taylor-Johnson memorably wiped his ass while sitting on an outdoor toilet in everybody's favorite movie of the millenium Nocturnal Animals. Don't worry -- I am not sharing that gif. And the rest of those names will be served wonderfully by Ford's eye I have no doubt -- I especially can't wait to see how he shoots the outrageous angles of Pellerin & MacKay's faces. Oh and Daryl McCormack, who's just soooo dreeeeeeamy.

Wait what were we talking about? Oh right this is a movie. I have never read this Anne Rice book but one assumes that the big headline here is the person I have not yet named in the cast -- the singer Adele is making her acting debut in a movie about opera singers. I imagine she's the lead and all of these insanely good looking men will be circling around her? I don't know; maybe Tom will give her a light load on her first film and some of these gorgeous men will pick up the slack. Whatever. GIMME! Other names in the cast -- that kid Owen Cooper from Adolesence, Ciarán Hinds,  Thandiwe Newton, Hunter Schafer, and Lux "sister of Pedro" Pascal. This sucker's loaded up yo!

Pic of the Day

I think we're probably all agreed that Aaron Taylor-Johnson's current beard situation is a bit much, so I'll remind us that it's for Robert Eggers' now-filming werewolf movie. And with that out of the way let's just appreciate the fact that his wife saw fit to take and post this photo for us today. I'm almost tempted to do a "Who Wore It Best" poll between ATJ and the statue but I have no idea who the statue is supposed to be of and that seems like an important missing piece of that puzzle. Anybody recognize that ancient fella?

Aaron's Outer Wolf

When Aaron Taylor-Johnson showed up at Venice last week looking like a hairy beast I wasn't sure what the fuck he was doing -- I mean we're clearly not getting a Kraven sequel. I'm embarrassed to admit it took this new Esquire interview for me to realize that DUHHH he's all bearded up to reunite with his Nosferatu director Robert Eggers on his werewolf movie! According to him he's already started working on Werwulf, although the official beginning of filming is TODAY -- here's what else ATJ's got to say on the project (don't get too excited, it's fairly insubstantial PR speak stuff he's saying):

"Other than being a phenomenal filmmaker and a strong visionary for these genre movies, I really loved being in his presence. He’s a strong filmmaker, he knows exactly what he wants, and he's very much in control. I like being an actor that is under the influence of a strong director. There are just limitations and boundaries within that, and it allows you to then differentiate between the other things you do, because he's so strong and bold in his style. I felt very honoured and privileged that he asked me to do something else with him. And Willem Dafoe also, and Lily Rose Depp. The company he keeps is just extraordinarily talented people. Same heads of department, same costume. And Jaren, our cinematographer who did Nosferatu and every other movie he's done. I mean, he's got a very strong, distinctive voice. As an actor, you just feel very lucky and privileged to be a part of it, really."

Back in the Furs Again

You can tell I'm exceptionally exhausted today -- I was up way past my bedtime last night not celebrating my birthday but rather working on the two reviews I told you are dropping today; the sacrifices I make! -- because it's taken me until three in the afternoon today to mention the huge news on one of my favorite filmmakers that dropped all the damned yesterday! This had actually completely slipped out of my brain until just now (thx Mac for the reminder). So I guess that was opfficially the birthday where the old age has set in. Sigh! Anyway here's said news -- Robert Eggers is looking to reunite with two of his Nosferatu stars for his next film, the werewolf movie Werewulf that I told you about in January. Specifically Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Lily-Rose Depp. No word on who they'll be playing or what the movie is about beyond what we originally learned in January. Lycanthropes and the 13th century. And Olde Enligh I think. As for ATJ, I know many people thought he was actively bad in Nosferatu but it might be my favorite performance he's ever given? I think he's wonderful in it anyway. As of LRD she generally got very good reviews for the movie and I agree with that consensus. True I'd love to see Eggers get back in the Anya Taylor-Joy business, but having seen how well he and Depp worked together I won't be mad about it this time like I was when Anya had to drop out of Nosferatu.

Double Oh Whatever

I'm in no way sharing that image of director Denis Villenueve with Jake Gyllenhaal on the set of their magnificent 2013 film Enemy to imply that Denis should make his former boyfriend Jake his James Bond now that he's been revealed to be directing the first film in the rebooted franchise for Amazon. Although I do find it strange that they hired a French-Canadian to direct this very British franchise I still think they'll get a British person to play the lead. I mean... they have to, right? Anyway if they're announcing a director I feel as if a leading man announcement can't be that far behind so we should probably know soon. And a lot of signs are indeed pointing toward Aaron Taylor-Johnson again. Whatever. I don't have much of a dog in this fight because I'm by no stretch of any person's imagination the world's biggest 007 fan. I enjoyed the Daniel Craig movies because Daniel Craig. I hadn't even seen another Bond movie until Craig was cast! Since then I have gone back and watched the Sean Connery ones and a couple scattered other random ones. They're fine! They're fun. Dr. No is probably a masterpiece but otherwise whatever. All of that said, to circle us around to the start -- Jake could make a great Bond villain. I feel as if the real future of Bond villains is billionaire nerds (and/or perhaps Russians) and that's in Jake's wheelhouse. Just sayin! I'd love for Denis & Jake to work together again. He's been so distracted by Timmy lately...

Say Good Night, Aaron

I'm running to a screening but that shouldn't keep y'all

from enjoying this new photo of Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Rage Against the Hype Machine

It is starting to feel as if I'm destined to be a curmudgeon about the horror movies people are digging this year, but really it's only actually been two at this point -- there was Dangerous Animals a couple of weeks ago and now there's Danny Boyle's long awaited zombie catch-up 28 Years Later, which hits theaters this weekend and which most other critics seem to be loving. Unfortunately I cannot in good conscience agree! Here is my review at Pajiba. I think the movie looks great and I think Ralph Fiennes is having fun and that's really almost all that worked for me? The kid's fine, I guess. My issues aren't to do with him. I just don't understand any of the people calling it "scary" or even "tense" as I found it to be neither of those things. But even more brains-boggling to me are the people thinking there's genuine emotion or any kind of profundity in this thing -- it's no deeper than a hollowed out eye-socket. I cannot fathom the people I heard around me sniffling emotionally during its last act -- I don't consider myself dead inside. I cry real easy most of the time! But not here. These are shallow unrealized duds of characters being moved around willy-nilly without a single thing of purpose to say -- I am good and truly baffled by some of the reviews I'm reading. You can only give something so much credit for trying something different when it thoroughly fails at what it's trying. Oh well! I'm a fan of the first two movies and generally Boyle as a filmmaker so here's to hoping the next one is better. At least Cillian Murphy will supposedly be back.

Good Morning, World

When we got the first image of Aaron Taylor-Johnson being Sex for YSL on Monday I figured we'd be getting more this week -- it's probably best they skipped yesterday though because yesterday belonged to Charles Melton jumping rope half-naked. That won Tuesday, and Tuesday belonged to Melton. But now it's Wednesday, it's Hump Day, and here is our humpy Aaron fulfilling his duties as the humpiest of them all, huzzah.

You know it's really a shame that Hollywood doesn't make horny movies anymore because Aaron should be starring in horny movies -- instead they keep sticking him in sexless action things and he keeps not making an impression. But I bet he could kill it as a fuckboy -- excuse me, he's a fuckman now -- in a seedy dangerous erotic thriller kind of movie. Like a Brian De Palma movie but one directed by a woman or a gay man. Alas! Those movies don't exist right now. I guess it's just the stuff of fashion ads. And here we are. Hit the jump for more gifs and the video...
