Dig Dug Dog

Do not hold Digger against Riz Ahmed -- even though I only briefly mention him in my scorch-the-planet review of the movie that dropped on Pajiba yesterday Riz in no way embarrasses himself therein. Believe me that's some kind of magic armor he must've been wearing because everybody else, from the great John Goodman to the great Sandra Huller is not so fortunate. But then that's Alejandro G. Iñárritu's whole deal -- sucking, I mean. Him and Tom Cruise are actually perfect for one another in that sense -- they should go make twenty movies together for the remainder of their careers so I can from here on out avoid them both like the fucking plague.

Anyway, in better news -- I am back here at my desk! Actually that's not good news, what the fuck am I talking about -- I'd much rather be in bed. My brain hurts. SO MANY MOVIES. NYFF has been keeping yer boy busy busy busy. But I guess it's good for you bvecause maybe I will do some posts or whatever. We'll see what happens. It's entirely possible I could just crumble to dust. And not (just)  because I just sat ten feet away from Pedro Pascal:

Pedro Pascal and Such For Sale

I feel like I'm doing one of these posts every other week now but heads-up that I piled another round of goodies onto eBay for sale over the weekend -- this weekend was really Criterion heavy because I was rearranging those specific shelves so you'll see a couple dozen Criterion discs for sale there! And as always everything is open to offers so make me an offer, and if you buy more than one thing I ill ship it together and refund you the extra -- pinky swear. You can trust me -- you know where to find me otherwise, wink wink. There's also a copy of the sold out issue of Fantastic Man magazine that features this slutty ass photoshoot of Pedro Pascal in it -- a prize to put in your hope chest obviously for when you and Pedro get married. Buy my shit here. Besides that...

... there's also piles of movie posters, and a heap of fancy photography and art books that've gone up recently... and really when it comes down to it this is my birthday week so this is great way to celebrate me. We all win! Alternately there's always the option of a PayPal donation! Feed your favorite needy writer on his birthday week. You know you want to.

Turn My Frown Upside Down, Pedro Pascal

I'm really loath to be a sour bitch about the news of Park Chan-wook making another movie -- and a movie back here in the U.S. no less, his first since Stoker! (He has made two T.V. series in English since then -- The Little Drummer Girl in 2018 and The Sympathizer in 2024.) But much like the casting of Robert Downey Jr. in The Sympathizer the casting news today is making this news more bitter than sweet for me -- Variety is reporting that he's planning on making a Western called The Brigands of Rattlecreek next (fantastic title) that will star two people I like in Pedro Pascal and Tang Wei, and two people I very very much do not like in Matthew McConaughey and Austin Butler. To be fair McConaughey and Butler have both given performances I've liked in the past -- McConaughey in Magic Mike, Butler in The Bikeriders and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood -- but seeing their names generally fills me more with dread than it does anticipation. I find the hype around Butler particularly inexplicable. (He is terrible in Dune 2. TERRIBLE.) And since The Sympathizer remains the only project of Park's that I have very little desire to revisit thanks to RDJ stinking that thing up, lisping around like a gross caricaiture, the still sore burn of recent bias eats away at me, reading this news. SIGH. I will attempt to be a bigger man, dig up some tatters of optimism from deep, deep within. Here is how they describe the story:

"The Brigands of Rattlecreek is described as 'an iconic tale of vengeance and retribution set in the American West.' A synopsis of the project explains: 'A capstone of the themes Park Chan-wook has plumbed across his entire body of work to date, the film is an emotionally explosive and visually stunning meditation on the consequences of violence, the value of family, the power of memory, and the true cost of life.'"

Pedro Pascal Four Times

This morning I shared the cover image of Pedro Pascal for Fantastic Man magazine, and here right just literally minutes before I'm set to run out the door to a screening these images from the magazine drop, planting a "good goddamn" on my lips as I go. I really don't have time to say any more, but y'all enjoy these! I plan on it.

The Town Bicycle Seat

Hey look at Pedro Pascal looking adorbs on the cover of the new issue of Fantastic Man magazine (via). And lemme tell you -- trying to search "Pedro Pascal Fantastic Man" to see if any more pictures have been released was muy complicado since Pedro is also the star of the Fantastic Four movie series. But as far as I can tell there's just this photo released so far. But how could I resist this post's title... I could not. I'm sorry, Pedro. It was just (ahem) sitting right there, screaming to be seized upon.

Good Morning, World

I'm sure Wagner Moura's career is going to get a great big boost from this past awards season where he was deservedly nominated for his ace turn in The Secret Agent. (How incredibly handsome did he look at the Oscars this past weekend when he was presenting and he put on those glasses? I swooned.) He's already got seven titles in his "upcoming" projects including a remake of Abbas Kiarostami's masterpiece Taste of Cherry (from the director of Jauja!) and a Star Wars project (of course) -- I'm sure much-deserved bigger projects are in the works though. I'd love to see him reunite with Secret Agent director Kleber Mendonça Filho again. That said -- I've never yet watched Narcos, the show where he played drug kingpin Pablo Escabar seen above, and... that picture is making me think I really should watch Narcos. There's also the Boyd Holbrook and Pedro Pascal of it. Hrm. Thoughts? Also if you wanna give me your answers for a Narcos-themed "Do Dump or Marry?" in the comments, those three are ready and willing...

Danny Ramirez Twelve Times

It's been about 77 weeks since Joaquin Phoenix bitched out of Todd Haynes' gay romance film De Noche in August of 2024 -- that's 77 weeks of one of our greatest living filmmakers' time and output gone, just gone, so let's take a fresh moment to mourn it (all while cursing Joaquin's name under our breath) (or even over our breath). Okay -- better news, better mood, today Variety has officially confirmed the rumor floating about since last summer; that Joaquin's Eddington co-star Pedro Pascal is indeed taking over the abandoned role opposite Danny Ramirez (who bless him has kept himself tightly attached this entire time) and shooting will kick off next month. It's been so very long since all of this began -- did I mention seventy-seven weeks? And that was just the moment the project fell apart; there were months of speculation before that -- that I think I should re-share the plot of the film:

"The story, which echoes classic noirs like “Chinatown,” charts the passionate and unexpected love affair between a cop (Pascal) and a boarding school teacher (Ramirez) in 1930s Los Angeles, when the city is overtaken by corruption and the world is on the brink of war. The two men become targets of the city’s corrupt political machine and are forced to flee to Mexico."

Sounds killer! (No I am not punning on Todd's longstanding relationship with Killer Films, although that's bonus points.) But seriously we love Haynes doing period films and 1930s Noir-tinged L.A. is certainly new for him -- I'll admit I'm detecting a few notes of Luca Guadagnino's ex-pat age-gap homosexual paean Queer in that description (especially their venture south of the border) but as much as I love Queer I have not a single doubt that Haynes will do his own wonderful thing. Break a (Joaquin's) leg(s), Todd! And now in celebration of this news, an older but never-here-posted Danny photoshoot (via) I will share with you after the jump...

Russell Tovey Eight Times

I'd just like to start this out by saying that the above photo of Russell Tovey in plaid pants is a lot for me, personally -- thankfully I had all weekend to really sit with it since this new photoshoot for Man About Town magazine dropped on Friday  -- we needed it. Also adding to the heap -- the fact that the interview therein is a chat between Russ and his "bromance" buddy Pedro Pascal. I did not use that word. The magazine used that word. I would have used other words but whatever! The two talk about (no really) queer cinema and being in the closet and being "vers" -- Pedro... I don't even know what to say about Pedro anymore. So let's not. Let's just say this is one of Tovey's sexiest photoshoots and hit the jump for the photos before I get myself in trouble...

Papa Pedro All Up on Lil Danny's Back

A week ago I told you that Pedro Pascal might be taking over Joaquin Phoenix's last-second-abandoned role in Todd Haynes' next movie, which would see him making sweet sweet love to Danny Ramirez. And now we have this photo (via) of Pedro and Danny together? WHAT COULD IT MEAN???? I mean obviously we know what it means -- they're fucking. Cinematically! Cinematically of course. I would never insinuate otherwise. Not without photos. And whoever has those photos you can find my email address in the profile section of the sidebar!

Pedro Pascal's Gay For Play

Let's all make a pact right now -- I'm going to try to post this news without going off the edge, and y'all try to do the same in the comments. Even though I know y'all commenters are maybe even more tired of Pedro Pascal's glass closet omnipresence than I am. And I am very. I'm just mostly of the mind that anything that gets a new Todd Haynes movie greenlit is worth praise, even if Pedro's coming at it with a lot of baggage. That said the project itself has baggage, since I'm sure y'all remember how Joaquin Phoenix bailed on this at the very verrrrry last minute last August and caused the entire thing's collapse. Baggage meets baggage. Anyway I've just now realized I haven't mentioned what I'm even talking about lol -- all y'all who aren't as online as me are probably like WTF, but I doubt many WT-Fuckers are visiting MNPP -- I have a knowledgable clientele, baby. But yes let's step back -- Pedro Pascal might be taking over the lead role in Todd Haynes' gay movie that got nuked when Joaquin dropped out of it. It has a title now that I don't recall seeing before -- De Noche -- and actor Danny Ramirez, who was set to be the co-lead in its earlier incarnation, will be coming back. Good for Danny -- I felt especially bad for him. I can't say I'm looking forward to another round of interviews from Mr. Pascal where he tells us all the details of the death of a close relative one second and then pivots to "I keep my private life private!" as soon as his sexuality's broached, but maybe he'll answer the fucking question for this. Time will tell! In summation, hey there Danny Ramirez...

Home, Home on the Rage

It's time for the second review drop of today, and once again it's me bucking up against the system, dropping truth bombs outside the mainstream, baby! Click on over to Pajiba to read my thoughts on Ari Aster's latest, the COVID-era Neo-western Eddington starring Pedro Pscal and Joaquin Phoenix, which got a cold pretty shoulder in Cannes but which I loved. I will admit it took me two viewings to find my way to that love -- it was a rough sit on my first go-round and I thought I might have hated it at first. But I couldn't stop thinking about it and that second view spun me right around. It's dry dark comedy at its absolute cruelest, with a shit-heap's worth to say about the madness of right now. Anyway we love a good challenge and hoo boy is Eddington one of those. Go see it this weekend!

Pedro Pascal Thirty Times

Pedro Pascal is Vanity Fair's cover-boy for the month what with his big Marvel movie coming out soon and he is looking every inch the swoon in the photoshoot. And you won't believe it but I actually read the interview before posting this time! I wanted to make sure he was still "not talking about his private life" before I did because who knows, perhaps we'd have something to actually report out of it!

Well we don't. Nothing to report still! He's still "not talking about his private life." What a waste. I will share with y'all the actual quote on this subject from the piece though so you don't have to read the entire thing if you don't feel like it at this point:

"As we wait for the check, we talk about some of the realities of fame. For instance, the internet’s real-time dissection of his coffee order, his vacation reading, and—since, as [Chelsea] Handler said, people of every kind are horny for him—why he doesn’t talk about his own personal life in the press. “I always feel perplexed when I’m identified in whatever form of media as a ‘highly private person,’ because that’s the opposite of me,” he says. “I’m very unprivate in my private life. I just know that personal relationships are such a complex thing to navigate even without having this enormous lens on them.” "

I'm shocked it even came up, honestly -- usually it seems the topic is avoided completely. Whatever, man. We've got Jonny Bailey, I guess. ALL THAT ASIDE it's actually a great profile -- the reason I get so annoyed with Pascal on the "personal life" front is because I find him charming and handsome and intelligent and thoughtful otherwise and I'd like to enjoy him unconditionally without having to go into a rage every time someone calls him an "ally." I know y'all always leave a lot of comments about him being over-hyped when I post about him, but I think he's a natural star. Everybody in the piece who cites his "sad eyes" are right -- perhaps he doesn't want to let on why they're so sad. Alas. Imagine what could be! For now what will be will have to just be this hot photoshoot I guess, so hit the jump for the entire thing...

Do It For Captain America

It's proving exceptionally difficult for me to get any work done today with everything happening in this country -- i.e. its quick descent into absolute fascism ya know, no big whoop -- and so looking at the clock I'm tossing my hands in the air and giving up on fighting the tide. A bunch of hateful morons handed the keys to our country to the same man who tried and failed to flush democracy down the toilet four short years ago, and now we're reaping the collapse we deserve for it. I can't write anything entertaining right this moment. I just have to go scream into a pillow, hug the people I love, and prepare to scream myself hoarse at the protest happening on Saturday -- if you missed my earlier post on that click here. As for the movies opening this weekend Celine "Past Lives" Song's latest Materialists starring Pedro Pascal, Dakota Johnson, and this hot slab of America's Ass pictured here is -- despite the attitude I get from commenters on here whenever I've posted about it! -- worth your time. It's not as good as Past Lives was, but it's way more sticky and weird and unexpected than its typical rom-com trailer would have you believe. Anyway that's the sum total of coherent thinking I can type right now. Please everybody be safe, go to a protest this weekend, and fuck up the fascists. America's Ass is counting on you!

These Three Kings

What the world needs now is love, sweet love, especially when "love" means "Pedro Pascal grinding up against Chris Evans' backside." And it does mean that this time! And if that's possible, anything is. Listen -- it's been a dark day in the real world, and even besides that I've been busy with off-blog stuff so I haven't been here to remedy some of that in my own horny miniscule way. and now I am abandoning you all until Tuesday. Tuesday! It's a holiday yo, and I also am human and need to boot down for a bit. So I leave you with that beautiful image of bisexual throuplery (a promo for their upcoming movie Materialists from Past Lives director Celine Song; I'll share the trailer below) in hopes it'll gift you with some slight reprieve and maybe a smile. Try to stay sane for a few more days. You can do it. Peace and love and hot men grinding on each other to one and all...

Skarsgård & Leather

It's wild that this outfit only dropped yesterday given how many more headline-grabbing outfits Alexander Skarsgård has been photographed in at Cannes since the above one, but the Gay BDSM Biker movie called Pillion that he stars in opposite Please Baby Please sub Harry Melling premiered at the fest then and this outfit did its job -- everybody around the globe stopped dead in their tracks and gawked. I posted several more on Bluesky so check 'em here -- slightly more important that Alex doing Tom of Finland drag though (slightly) is the fact that word of mouth on the movie itself out of the fest is very good! (And very hot too!) So I'm just gonna need this movie sooner rather than months from now. Do you hear me, A24? (And also I expect a positively pervy collection of Pillion-themed swag for sale in your shop as well!) Anyway while making France his bitch Alex has made out with Pedro Pascal and worn thigh-high leather boots and spangled pants as well, but I gotta admit the short-shorts he's been rocking today have been pretty top too! (See more here.) He' might single-handedly rescue 2025 from the shit-heap y'all. May the Pillion press tour save us!

I Quit Smoking 17 Years Ago Today

I keep doing these posts every May 5th -- marking the anniversary of when I quit smoking cigarettes back in 2008 with a constantly ballooning collection of photos and gifs of actors and the like smoking their sexy asses off -- even though, well, it's been 17 years yo! What else do I have to say about any of this? I haven't missed a cigarette since then -- that Chantix shit I took really did its job and then some. But then the fact hasn't changed that whenever I see an image like this...

... I swoon. It just looks cool. I can't help the rules. I'm not saying it's good -- people love violent action movies because people look cool killing people too. It just is what it is and I'm not out to rewire the human brain. I'm just here to lay the horn on the pleasure receptors as we all sink into the abyss. So come with me into this sexy smoky netherworld of seventeen smoke-free years after the jump...

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

 ... you can learn from:

Beau is Afraid (2023)

Mona: You let things happen to you.
Do you think that makes you innocent?

Happy 76 to Patti Lupone today! I rewatched
this movie a few weeks ago and my god it holds up.
Oh and since we're here I guess I should share this:

That's the teaser for Ari Aster's next movie Eddington, which reunites him with Beau star Joaquin Phoenix while adding to the mix Emma Stone, Pedro Pascal, Austin Butler, Clifton Collins Jr., and most importantly my beloved Deirdre O'Connell who's been in everything but recently tore it up as Colin Farrell's sick-headed momma in The Penguin. I'll just admit it right now -- I have not watched this teaser and I still have no fucking idea what Eddington is about, and I plan on keeping it that way for as long as possible. I don't need to know! Just put the fucking thing in front of me already. Unfortunately I'll probably learn more between now and its release date of July 18th. (Probably when it screens at Cannes and all of the fancypants who go to Cannes start jabbering on, sigh.)

Who Wore It Best?

Crowded field for birthdays of perennial beefcake today -- we already wished Michael Fassbender a happy one this morning but we had other options, given both Chris Meloni and Pedro Pascal slid out their mommas on an April 2nd (the former in 1961 and the latter in 1975). Finding a commonality between these two proved difficult -- I was hoping I'd find pictures of Pedro in a half-shirt or a skirt to go up against photos of Meloni's memorable turns in both of those but they weren't to be. But both have been photographed multiple times wearing white tank-tops -- and as an aside I do understand why we can't use the term "wifebeater" any more for obvious reasons but I do miss its brevity -- so we'll go with that butch-bitch staple. (Butch Bitch is okay, right? Whatever.) Have at it!
