Good Afternoon, World
Hello! Been a minute, sorry about that -- my fest schedule's really swallowed me up. As atonement here are the photos of Christopher Abbott and Mike Faist serving Challengers sauna homoerotica for the new issue of New York Magazine -- these two are the stars (alongside Florence Pugh) of Nertflix's new East of Eden adaptation, which like this site has become a casuality of my busy-ness because I've had screeners for weeks and not had time to watch them, alas. I'll get to it once NYFF is over!
Anyway I haven't even had the time to check out NY Mag's full spread which includes other up-and-comers lounging about the sauna with these two cover boys -- I spotted Brandon Flynn and Isaac Cole Powell so yes, it's very gay indeed. I am not just projecting here. Anyway onward and upward let's try to get something done this Monday shall we? We shall. Right, Chris?

The David Corenswet Jock Movie
The moment that the first beefcaked-up photos from David Corenswet's football bio-pic Mr. Irrelevant appeared online back in April I knoew this was a movie I was going to be psoting about more when the time came -- well tick tock motherfuckers. The trailer popped up over the weekend and it's exactly the sort of soppy sentimental thing we expected, but damn if David doesn't look incredible anyway.
And I feel less inclined to side-eye this movie than Sports Bio-pics of the past because -- these movies just aren't made very often anymore? The trailer gives away what seems like everything and this is extremely old-fashioned shit, and there's something kind of endearing about that. I really don't even have a warm place in my heart for any esteemed movies of this genre but I'm glad this exists in 2026. Hell if only so we get to see Superman bouncing in those little shorts. Here's the trailer:
Mr. Irrelevant is out on Christmas Day.

Good Morning, World
Did y'all see the news that Cole Escola's "Oh, Mary!" has been filmed for HBO? This is tremendous news but I'm a little sad it wasn't the stage version where Dino Fetscher here plays the teacher character. At least Dino was kind enough to share the above picture from his dressing room (via) to give us a little window into his own, you know, personal process. Happy Monday!

The Boys From Belorado
Hey remember that movie La Bola Negra that I told y'all about last week when the first teaser trailer dropped? The really gay Spanish one? Yeah in related news I am heading out to see... some movie... right now. What movie? Who knows! Nobody will ever know. (I'm not humble-bragging -- I actually don't know if I am embargoed or not.) Anyway in continued related-or-not news La Bola Negra will be in U.S. theaters on October 16th before hitting Netflix after that. Just saying! Have a good night!

Devils & Archers
Given it's the buzziest restoration of.. well "the year" doesn't even seem sufficient even though we've only known about its existence since May when it played Cannes -- it's got to be the buzziest restoration of the decade. Anyway given the fact that everybody (including yours truly) is losing their heads over the new re-cut & restoration of Ken Russell's The Devils it's not at all surprising that this is leading NYFF's just today dropped list of "Revivals" screenings -- it would have been one hundred more times shocking if it wasn't there (even though the restoration's one week theatrical engagment lands a whole four days after the fest ends). So yes...
IT IS HAPPENINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG @filmlinc.bsky.social #NYFF

... we are excited about that. But there's an entire list of movies playing, and I'd be remiss if I didn't call attention to the other, less buzzy but just as stunning of a whopper that is, unlike The Devils, actually having its World Premiere at NYFF...
... and that is the brand new restoration of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's 1950 film Gone To Earth. I have never seen this one and that sounds for the best because apparently producer David O. Selznick took it away from the men who made the masterpieces The Red Shoes and Black Narcissus and cut it up all to hell, and it's only been available in this butchered version for the past 75 years. Until now, thanks to one Marty Scorsese and editing icon legend and genius Thelma Schoonmacher, who besides all of those professional titles was also married to the late Michael Powell. The two of them oversaw a meticulous reconstruction of the filmmakers' never-seen version -- basically we're getting a new movie from the Archers! Holy hell! Here's how NYFF describes the film (and if any of you have seen the old version, share in the comments!):
"This restoration miraculously brings Powell and Pressburger’s Technicolor version of Mary Webb’s novel back to life. Jennifer Jones stars as the free-spirited, nature-loving Hazel Woodus, a woman who refuses to bow down to her father (Esmond Knight), the spiritual clergyman (Cyril Cusack) to whom she is betrothed, or the reckless squire (David Farrar) who desires her. Jones gives a career-best performance in The Archers’ glorious tribute to the otherworldly landscapes where Powell’s father grew up. "

Pics of the Day
The first photos from Andrew Haigh's forthcoming film A Long Winter have arrived -- I first told you about this movie just about a year ago when it was first announced because it's Andrew f'ing Haigh we're talking about here, of course I did. Then the killer cast started filling in -- our beloved baby bird Fred Hechinger (seen above) Kit Connor, Caitríona Balfe (so great in Belfast), The Bear and Girls actor Ebon Moss-Bachrach -- and we kept reporting! This movie is screening at NYFF in a couple of months (it's also playing TIFF) so surely I'll be on it then -- this is an adaptation of a Colm Tóibín book about a mother who goes wandering into the snowy mountains leaving her family behind, or so I recall the plot being when I first wrote about this news. I never read the book; have you? Anyway no word on when y'all will get to see it just yet but stay tuned and hit the jump for the rest of the pictures...

Puck Me
It's kinda crazy I never saw Splitsville, the 2025 romantic comedy, because the only two things I knew about it -- it stars my beloved Dakota Johnson and actor Charlie Gillespie looks like that above and also showcases a truly world-class ass a moment later -- are enough reasons, big enough reasons, hard enough reasons, that would normally get me to watch a movie. But I have not so I can't tell you shit about Gillespie's acting ability, having seen him in nothing but gifs, and that's now a real demerit against me because over the weekend he was cast as one of the new main characters in the second season of Heated Rivalry. Point being I can't even guess if he was cast solely to challenge Connor Storrie in an Ass Off -- he's bringing some stiff competion though, lemme tell you what! (Or show you, as I'm sure you've already glanced at that gif down below.) Anyway also joining the cast is Justice Smith from I Saw the T.V. Glow -- him we know all about, and he's a terrific (and super cute) actor. Hockey hotness overload, y'all!

Melton's World
Well I started today by wishing one hot fella congrats on his Emmy nomination, I might as well end the day doing the same -- and this time for a performance I have actually seen! (Sorry, Colman.) Congrats to our boy Charles Melton for getting an extremely deserved nod for his hysterical turn in the second season of Beef -- I was happy to see that show get a few nominations; I really thought the general consensus (not shared by me) was that its second season was a downgrade. Personally I liked the second season even more than the first, mainly due to Charles' comedic brilliance (and sexual tension with Oscar Isaac) and the utter perfection that is Carey Mulligan every second she exists. Anyway I don't want to do any deep dive on the Emmy nominations because the Emmys fucking suck -- not one single nomination for anything Industry-related is basically an immediate disqualification for any meaningfulness with regards to their entire organization. But if Charles is happy...
... we're happy for Charles. Anyway I had been hoping that he'd grace us with some more from his Milk Extravaganza of last week, but seeing as how generous he's been lately I won't complain. Not too loudly anyway. I've got these gifs from Beef on hand that I've not shared yet anyway. And just think -- his Nicolas Winding Refn movie isn't even out yet! That's in a couple of weeks and we'll have so so so much to say about it shortly, believe you me. (Yes indeed I have now seen it. I have now seen it!) It's actually opening Fantasia Fest in Montreal which, well I guess now's the time to share I'm going back to Montreal for that again this year, so stay tuned for lots of Fantasia coverage to come. Unbelievably that's... uhh. one week from today? Shit I haven't packed a thing yet. All that AND it's my birthday next week. When it rains milk from Charles Melton's lips it pours milk from Charles Melton's lips. As the saying goes. Okay I've rambled enough. Time for me to head off for my three day weekend. Keep your eyes peeled to Pajiba as I have a review going up tomorrow but otherwise y'all have a good weekend and you can get it started by hitting the jump for more Charles Melton gifs...

Good Morning, World

I don't think I know a single Benson Boone song but nevertheless I have watched a whole lot of footage of him doing flips and prancing around in nothing but really tight pants in the brief part of my lifetime where I have known his name and he's been around -- it is what it is. Anyway no idea of what the context is for this video I stumbled across yesterday, don't care to have said context toold to me either, but I will watch it several times all the same. It is what it is, baby. Just let it be. Let the Boone wash over you, guilt-free.

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...
... you can learn from:
City of the Living Dead (1980)
Blonde gravedigger: Will you check her out?Talk about a "box lunch".Gravedigger: I'm telling you, you'll end up a dirty old manreading that stuff. A pervert. A peeping tom. I saw thisporno flick once. This guy in the audience got so carried awaywith it, he humped himself to death.Blonde gravedigger: Yeah, but what a way to go.
Just a heads-up to all of my Fulci Freaks out there that today marks the 99th anniversary of the great gore-maestro's birth! That means you've only got one year to create your centennial maggot-masks and wood-shard-eye-sockets and cow-intestine-tongues with which to celebrate! Get to goring! Okay actually now that I think about it, maybe starting a year early with half of that stuff is a bad idea -- it will start to stink real fast. Especially the intestines thing. Check out your refridgeration situation first I guess. Anyway yes here's to 99 years of Fulci -- I love several of his movies a lot but I do think City of the Living Dead will probably always be my favorite, and that discussion above, bringing Shakespeare into the age of Italian sleaze, is a good reprsentative moment why. To be or not to be, to jerk off to death or not to jerk off to death -- ehh what's the difference? What a king.

Who Watches Rivals?
I have been well aware of the British series Rivals since it began airing in 2024 because I keep myself abreast of every move that Aidan Turner makes thank you very much. And yet I've only done one post on the show (here, and worth the click) and I've never watched a single episode? It seems as if every time a new episode airs I add more half-naked Aidan to the over-stuffed "Aidan Tuner" folder on my computer, telling myself I'll get to it eventually... and yet the above photo of Aidan and his well-proportioned co-star Alex Hassell rocking the world's tiniest shorts appears to be the thing that finally broke me. I gotta start watching this damn show already! Y'all tell me -- how is it? Opinions, thoughts, seventeen stanza poems devoted to Aidan's hirsute torso -- whatever ya got give it to me in the comments please and thanks.

The Grandier High Witches!
We've got updates to yesterday's movie-nerd-rupturing news that Ken Russell's 1971 masterpiece The Devils has gotten a 4K restoration and it will premiere at Cannes later this month -- it's going to play in U.S. movie theaters too! It's getting a one week theatrical engagment on october 1th and there's the poster above -- the poster calls this "The Director's Cut" and they sent out more detail via their press release:
"Assembled from the original camera negative, this new 4K restoration presents Ken Russell's definitive vision of THE DEVILS by referencing the edit he privately constructed in 2004. KEN RUSSELL'S THE DEVILS is the uncut and unfiltered theatrical experience that Russell always envisioned - and the first time the film will be presented restored and in 4K... This new 4K restoration of Ken Russell's masterpiece was assembled from the original camera negative. The film's sound has been remastered from original English Composite 35mm Mag Film, transferred at 96kHz, plus other original film elements in selected spots as needed. "
Granted it's only been twenty-four hours but this news is still breaking my brain -- I can't believe the White Whale has been speared! While not confirming confirming a physical media release I hugely doubt we need to worry about that at this point -- now that it's not a one time Cannes thing I fully expect a 4K disc down the road. Hopefully in time for the holidays so every one of us sickos can gift our families The Devils in their stockings! Anyway they also sent along some images from the restored film and prepare to have your eyes blown back through your heads after the jump...

HOLY! F*CKING!! HELL!!!
Yes I realize that's the French poster for Ken Russell's The Devils there, but that's the poster I actually own and which hangs on my bedroom wall, so that's the one I'm using to share this incredible news I really wondered whether I'd ever be able to share in my entire life -- this movie, long banned and buried by the studio, has officially gotten a 4K restoration from Warnes Brothers and it will be premiering at Cannes this month. HELL HATH OFFICIALLY FROZEN OVER, Y'ALL.
ME REACTING TO THIS 'THE DEVILS' NEWS

There have actually been little whispers of this for the past several weeks so I'm not exactly crapping my pants here as I totally one hundred percent would have if this had come completely out of nowhere -- and to the people who were doing the whispering I can only say thank you, since nobody wants to crap their pants. Okay maybe our President does. But not me! I can safely say I am not a person who wants to crap my pants. Now do you see why you keep coming back here? You come for news about a notorious film classic that's been hidden away for literal decades and instead I go on a coprophilia tangent. Keepin' y'all on ya toes, baby! Just like Ken Russell did!
For real though this is incredible fucking news. I have a DVD from the U.K. (or Germany?) of the movie, but obviously a 4K upgrade showcasing this film's tremendous beauty -- those Derek Jarman sets, my god! -- along with the fact that this is apparently trhe longest cut assembled since its release... well this is the movie news of the year, hands down. I know the version of the film I saw at MoMA ages ago before Russell died (he was there, I shared the air with Ken Russell, I am still not over that) was a longer version of the film than I'd seen before, but I'm terrible at keeping track of what cut's from what version et cetera. So how much of the "Rape of Christ" sequence has been dug up??? I'm agog y'all. AGOG. While I go on agogging below is a doc I uploaded onto YouTube thirteen years back that shows some of the "lost" footage (it's age-restricted cuz NSFW obviously):

Wilson Bethel Nine Times
Wilson Bethel has always given off big Michael Biehn energy -- I do believe the very first time I posted about him was when they were casting the role that Biehn played in the Terminator franchise (for the forgettable movie that became Genisys) -- but I think the mustache that the Daredevil actor is sporting in this new photoshoot for Schön! magazine is ratcheting the Biehn-ness up to a whole 'nother level. Maybe it's just that I rewatched The Abyss recently...
... but it's all I can see!
Well that and Wilson on the new Daredevil episode...
... that is. That's all I can see. And maybe that's just due to the fact that I haven't even watched the new episode of Daredevil yet -- I've just watched the clip of Wilson half-naked in it (thx Mac). I'll watch the new episode in full tonight. So maybe that explains why his shirtlessness is all I can picture from the episode? Wow -- that's called "enlightenment," folks. And I'm positively stuffed up the ass with it. Ugh I am in a weird mood today y'all. Ignore me. Or even better just hit the jump for the photos of Wilson giving off all the BBE he can muster...
