Between the just-dropped trailer for Josh Hartnett's new Netflix series Below and my review of the Fantasia horror movie No Rest For the Wicked (also set in an Atlantic adjacent fishing village) I feel like I'm using the phrase "Sweater Porn" a lot this week -- but then I think about how horrifically hot this summer has been and how disgustingly muggy it's been this week specifically and thoughts of the sweet freeing embrace of Autumn are bound to be drowning my subconscious right now. Sweater Porn is just leaking out of me!! Pouring more like -- I mean look at Josh there! Big Burly Dad Josh -- you love to see it. Anyway this show is about some sort of aquatic nightmare creature attacking a Newfoundland town and all of those words, along with the Hartnett of it, are ones that hit my happy triggers. You even see Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton's bum in the trailer -- I mean he does nothing for me but I figure that will be a plus for one of you perverts. I just hope that Widow's Bay hasn't knocked the wind out of this show's sails, since we only want good stuff for Josh. Anyway we'll see when Below lands on Netflix on October 8th; here's that trailer:

You Can't Spell Messiah Without Mess
I know that calling it Dune Part Three will make it feel like a closed trilogy more but I really miss this thing being called Dune:Messiah -- it's just a more interesting title. Do I think that because it might irritate Christians? I'll never tell! (Yes I will -- of course that's the reason.) Anyway the trailer for Dune Whatever has dropped today and surely you've seen it elsewhere -- I just wanted, nay needed, to make that gif of Robert Pattinson so I figured I might as well post the damn thing. That said I am excited about this -- I liked both of the previous movies a lot, even if I maintain against the hype that Austin Butler was terrible in the second one. I have total faith that RPatz will make for a serious upgrade in the anti-Atreidas establishment.
Dune Whatever (am I just calling it that now?) is out December 18th.

It Puts the Lotion on Its Skin
One of my favorite movies from this year's Sundance is hitting some theaters this upcoming weekend and I'm just now realizing I have not shared this information yet! The movie's called Night Nurse and it's a perverse little psycho-sexual thriller that feels like it's floating in a ketamine daze -- right up my alley then. I called it "deliciousness for sickos" in my review and as a self-proclaimed sicko myself (I'm not just the President, but I'm also a member) I think you should take my word. The movie's about a charismatic older gentleman in a retirement community who causes the nurses to fall under his predatory spell, and one in particular who goes right off the deep end -- anyway I don't think you should know much more about it but the trailer is below if you're so inclined. It's only hitting a couple of theaters in NYC and LA this weekend but click here and you can see if/when it will spread from there. That said it's a very small movie without any recognizable names so my guess is this'll be on VOD before you can say "rectal thermometer" ten times fast. Seek it out!

Give 'Em Hell Refn
As if unloading that slutty milk campaign on us Charles Melton admirers wasn't enough for this sweaty end-of-June Tuesday afternoon, Neon has just now unleashed the first full-length trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn's Her Private Hell as well -- and as glimped in the first teaser as well as yesterday's sweaty torso poster it appears to be a real "Imagine Charles Melton in a fetish, any fetish, and voila you got it" fest. Leather, uniforms, you name it Refn is gearing Chuck up for our visual benefits.
I still have no idea what the fuck this movie is about and oh my god I do not care in the slightest -- as with anything Refn has made in the past decade and a half it's all about the vibes and I subscribe to these vibes. A lot of people don't! And I feel bad for them! There are shots in this trailer that made my eyes pop out of my head.
Literally. My eyes are sitting on my desk right now, I am typing this blind. Anyway this movie was not loved at Cannes but that only made me more excited -- his two T.V. series (Too Old To Die Young and Copenhagen Cowboy) were similarly divisive and I loved every second of them. I would put Refn in alongside Robert Eggers and Wes Anderson as filmmakers who've alienated a lot of people by going off the deep ends with their respective styles but I'm so here for it from every single one of them. Art, baby!
Her Private Hell is out on July 24th. And hit the jump

Good Morning, Werwulf
Even though we got our first official still from Robert Eggers' Werwulf last week I did not expect them to be dropping the trailer this soon -- but they did! It's here! Even though the movie's not out until Christmas. I'm sure we'll get longer clips and teases closer to the release but honestly I am fine with this two minute long smorgasbord of gross images flashing by, up to and including...
... looks at Aaron Taylor-Johnson starkers mid-transformation. What else do you need? (Apologies that I did not gif Lily-Rose Depp's hairlip even though I know you were shouting "Hairlip, hairlip!") Anyway obviously this is the movie I most want to see that remains in 2026 -- this is always the case when there's a Robert Eggers movie... well unless there's a Luca movie, I guess. But then it depends on subject matter. And Aaron's flexing buttocks do a lot of heavy lifting on they're lonesome. Anyway! It's Monday, I am not awake yet, just watch the trailer and buy your tickets when you can:

Physical Media Ultraviolence
By now I'm sure you've heard that Criterion just dropped a bomb on us that only Slim Pickens could ride -- a massive box-set of every Stanley Kubrick movie on 4K, plus some shorts, plus all of those special features they're known for, will be landing on our heads come October 20th. You can pre-order it here if you're a person for whom money is no object (in which case hey there why don't you scooch a lil' closer, new best friend) although obviously I recommend you wait for one of the big 50% off sales that land in the fall at Criterion's own site or at Barnes & Noble. Because the price right now is four hundred and eighty bucks and goodness me that's a lot of money. Especially if you're a collector like me who already owns most of these movies in some format or another. (I suppose y'all who don't need or want 4K should be keeping your eyes on my eBay though because I will be buying this set so I will be selling off those discs at some point in the next few months.) But even if you're waiting to buy the set check the long long long list of specifics at the link -- this is really a staggering set; Criterion proving they're the gold standard yet again. RSVP Hell Yes
I don't know why I thought I was embargoed with regards to sharing my opinion on Olivia Wilde's upcoming comedy The Invite -- which stars her and Seth Rogen as a married couple who invite their neighbor couple, played by Ed Norton and Penelope Cruz, over for dinner and, uhh, it goes wild -- but I just realized now that I am not embargoed, and so I feel the need to immediately shout from the rooftops that this movie is the funniest movie I have seen in a movie theater (or not in a movie theater) in a very long time. I honestly haven't openly unreservedly guffawed inside a theater like this movie had me going in I don't know how long -- I honestly don't remember the last time. I'm not tasked with writing a review so I'll probably leave it this simple -- go see this movie, go make this movie a hit, so we can get more smart silly adult comedies in movie theaters please. Below is the first look at the film from A24 -- it's out in "select theaters" next Friday and then wide on July 10th. With this and Gregg Araki's I Want Your Sex coming later in July Olivia Wilde has officially completely flipped around that rough patch her career was going through circa the Harry Styles mess -- good for her.

I Want Your Trailer
As promised alongside the film's poster yesterday the trailer for Gregg Araki's new film -- his first in over a fucking decade! -- I Want Your Sex has arrived! I've done all this table-setting about ten thousand times over the years this thing's been barrelling towards us but since it's trailer-time I'll do it again: the movie stars Olivia Wilde as an avante-garde L.A. artist...
... and Cooper Hoffman as her assistant who she starts getting it on with. The film also stars Mason Gooding, Chase Sui Wonders, Daveed Diggs, Margaret Cho, Johnny Knoxville, and Charlie XCX, among many, many, and many more. Now watch:
I Want Your Sex is out on July 31st. You will be seeing it. No that is not a question or a request. I am getting into the whole dominatrix thing now and I am telling you. Pretend my heel is on your throat. That's a good boy.

Pumpin' With Patrick
I already shared a long trailer for the forthcoming Cape Fear series on Apple+ right here -- that one was good and all but I much prefer this sixteen seconds of simplicity they dropped today. Patrick Wilson, half naked, lifting weights, sold! The first two episodes premiere on Friday. And honestly if they're just this for two hours I'll watch the whole damn thing.
Bonus: here's a picture that a fan snapped of Patrick at his gym the
other day. (How do we find this fan & nominate them for a Pulitzer?)

Burn Beach Burn
Have any of you seen Stanley Kramer's 1959 post-nuclear-apocalypse movie On the Beach? I used that handsome foot-fetish photo of Gregory Peck during the filming of it to grab your attention, but besides him it's got an all-star cast including Fred Astaire, Ava Gardner, and Anthony Perkins. I haven't seen the film but I just saw that it's getting a blu-ray release from BFI in July and I was curious whether I should blind-buy the disc or not. I do love movies about people dying from radiation poisoning and madness after all! So I am looking to you, the people, the peanut gallery, my favorite perverts, for advice. Below is the trailer; if you've seen the movie sound off in the comments please and thank you.

Killer Queens
There's something about the poster for Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma -- the new movie from We're All Going To the World's Fair and I Saw the T.V. Glow director Jane Schoenbrun, and P.S. we really should be talking more about how fucking good Jane is at movie titles -- that's been bugging me since it dropped yesterday and I can't quite put my finger on it. I think I would like it more if the square image with our leading ladies in it was more rectangular and there was less empty space with the title and text in it at the bottom? You stretch the top half down so it's like 5/6ths of the full sheet and I think it's a great poster. Those blood-soaked queens should be bigger dammit! I also think the mix of fonts in the title is sloppy -- I love the Friday the 13th font being used of course, but the five words above "Camp Miasma" feel disconnected. Anyway all of this critique is said with love! I would buy this poster if it was the version I have in my head -- as is I'm not totally sold. That's only in regards to the poster though! Having seen this movie... well we'll save that opinion for another day. But yes I have already seen the movie and yes, you should be looking forward to it. It's out in theaters on August 7th (although it is playing this weekend at NewFest here in NYC and it's hitting several other fests around the country before then so keep yer eyes a'peeled) and here's the just -dropped trailer!

Private Hells For Everybody!
Nicholas Winding Refn's latest movie Her Private Hell starring Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton among others is about to premiere at Cannes, so today they dropped the teaser -- Thatcher and Melton (and Charles Melton's tits) are the main focus of it so I am assuming they're the main characters, our leading lady and lad. And tits.
As I told you back on the 1st we don't have forever ages to go until we can see this ourselves -- Neon is releasing it on July 24th. Thank goodness. Looks like a perfect Summer Movie -- really all Refn movies are Summer Movies. Everybody is hot and sweaty and mean. Anyway the teaser gives away very little -- just showcases NWR's style, the real star of the show, so feel free to watch:

Hold All October For Hartnett
This trailer dropped a few days ago so per usual I am late late late for a very important date date date -- in this instance a date with Josh Hartnett's happy trail. But this blog would be pond scum if I didn't post that gif at some point so hopefully this is new to you! Maybe you're a person who doesn't spend their entire day online, in which case I would love to body-swap with you. No that's not a euphemism. Save me from myself, please. Anyway! The movie is called Verity and it's from director Michael Showalter and it's based on a book by Colleen "It Ends With Us" Hoover and it also stars Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson. It's about a ghostwriter working for a famous novelist and getting all entangled in their disturbing business or some shit, I don't know. I am sure it will be full of silly twists and sexy turns, I am just here for that shot of Josh. Although yes obviously I love Anne & Dakota too, and I am glad that there's been a mini-resurgance of eortic thriller type movies. We love 'em! Watch:
Verity is out on October 2nd.

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...
... you can learn from:
Special Effects (1984)
Neville: Like I always say, I don't know what I likeuntil I see it. And then I know I don't like it.
Have any of you seen this sleazy 1984 Larry Cohen film? (Redundancy after redundancy there.) I only saw it a few weeks ago because the fine folks at Radiance Films put out a gorgeous new restoration of it on blu-ray and it was exactly what I wanted from a sleazy 1984 Larry Cohen film that stars Eric Bogosian as a movie director who decides to use a real life murder he commits as inspiration for his next movie. It's kind of Larry Cohen's spin on Vertigo and it's terrific. I totally felt like I needed to take a shower afterwards. Anyway speaking of Eric Bogosian, a happy 73rd birthday to the character actor whose career has as of late gotten a bump thanks to the double-punch of Uncut Gems and the Interview With the Vampire series. And speaking of the latter -- we have a trailer for the new season, baby! Sweet Rockin' Lestat gimme! I'm surprised they officially changed the name of the show to go with the book though.
Interview With the Vampire... excuse me,

Alternately Poltergeist Prison
You know how people who are really genuinely afraid of clowns get irritated about how, some time post-It, everybody decided clowns are creepy? Maybe I just have that one territorial coulrophobe in my life, but I think there is something to people being suggestively brainwashed into thinking they find something scary after enough repetition or reinforcement, and I say this from experience because I am pretty certain I never used to have Trypophobia (otherwise known as a fear of clusters of holes or bumps in irregular patterns). I don't remember this being a thing in my life anyway, not until I'd heard about it being a thing thanks to the internet -- then suddenly I felt myself becoming convinced it's true, that it's fucking digusting to look at clusters of holes or bumps in irregular patterns. Anyway that's the reason you're looking at the above poster for the movie Ghost in the Cell and not the official poster that's on its IMDb page, which makes me want to never stop barfing. If I couldn't stop barfing then I wouldn't be able to continue typing, and then you'd never have had read all of that blather -- and wouldn't we all be so much worse off that way? I thought so.
Anyway I thought I'd posted about this news but I guess I just did it on social media (which happens more than it ought to) -- Joko Anwar, the modern maestro of Indonesian horror behind films like Impetigore, Satan's Slaves, Satans Slaves 2: Communion, and the upcoming Satan's Slaves 3: Origin (and that's new news of its own), has a horror movie out in theaters in Indonesia right this minute! It is indeed called Ghost in the Cell and it's about a -- god I have done this gag so many times -- you guessed it! A ghost, it's in a cell. It's a horrible specter, a ghoul, a poltergeist, and it's inside a prison, a jail, a penitentiary. Use any of those words and you too can have a movie title. Seriously though I love love love what Anwar's been cooking over the past decade -- he would wield Trypophobia for his poster, since that's so perfectly in sync with how good his movies have been at poking me in uncomfortable places. Remember the dude eating a fistful of furry caterpillars in his script for The Queen of Black Magic? I sure fucking do ughhh. There's a sweaty tactility to his movies that really worms around in your flesh, so I can't wait for a new movie from him!
Unfortunately that's exactly what we'll be doing since who the hell knows when Ghost in the Cell is getting a U.S. release. Anwar's enough of an international name now (he had that creepy crawly anthology series on Netflix, after all) that I know this will come here at some point, probably via Shudder or IFC or one of the small horror-tinged studios of a similar sort. It seems a safe bet. Just when remains unclear, but believe you me I'll be all up on that business when we know it. And -- if I'm not barfing -- I will share said news with you then. Here's the trailer:

Burn Demon Babies Burn
That there is the first teaser trailer for the next Evil Dead movie, titled Evil Dead Burn, and unlike what I normally say about horror movie trailers I think it's perfectly fine to watch this one! It's about a minute of footage from the movie, a single unbroken take that shows very little except the expected chaos of any Evil Dead movie. But I think it gives you a good feel for what French director Sébastien Vanicek will be rbinging to the typical Deadite-inflected proceedings -- I was a huge fan of his 2023 spider-horror flick Infested, which is in itself kinda extraordinary because I fucking hate spiders, they terrify me, and I usually can't bring myself to seek out horror movies about spiders. And yet! Even I, through my fingers, couldn't deny the fun and power of Infested. (And speaking of I will now renew my plea for a physical media release of it. Come on, Shudder!) Anyway Evil Dead Burn is out on July 11th and below (via) is the plot description, which does fill in some gap points of reference for the clip above:
"Evil Dead Burn unleashes the franchise’s most savage and terrifying ride to date, blazing onto big screens with an all-new chapter of carnage and demonic mayhem. After the loss of her husband, a woman seeks solace with her in-laws in their secluded family home. As one by one they are transformed into Deadites—turning the gathering into a family reunion from hell—she comes to discover that the vows she took in life… live on even in death."

Good Morning, World
I literally posted nearly 200 images from Charles Melton's Men's Health photoshoot and video on Monday -- seriously, go see for yourself!!! -- and yet somehow I totally missed this fairly straightforward (yet no less sexy) image right there above? What a world, what a world indeed. Anyway it's a good thing because the second season of Beef is out on Netflix today and why wouldn't I post about that? For one I've been pretty relentlessly plugging it for months now because of its incredible cast. And for another I've actually already watched the whole damn thing! And it's good! I think it might be a little more unfocused than the first season, but all of the leads are excellent, with Mr. Melton and OF COURSE Carey Mulligan being the stand-outs from where I stand. For his part Melton is hysterically funny and surprisingly moving, proving that May December was no fluke; he's the real deal. As much talent as he's got abs! And as for Mulligan...
Carey Mulligan is one of those notable few performers who, when I think about how much I love watching them perform, I literally well up. I feel immense gratitude every time she acts. I'm basically Team She Can Do No Wrong. What an immense talent she wields. A queen.
— Jason Adams (@jamnpp.bsky.social) April 15, 2026 at 4:52 PM
[image or embed]
... well as you see above I'm of the mind that Carey Mulligan is incapable of being anything less than absolutely 100% compelling on-screen, and every single time the camera focuses on her here she proves her exquisite skill yet again. I am in awe of her, really and truly -- I'm not quite ready to de-throne the dueling Frenchies of Binoche & Huppert as my picks for the Greatest Living Actresses, but every time I watch Carey Mulligan I question that. I do! She's just so spectacular. Anyway you should watch the new season, it's mostly terrific, and I won't spoil it but there is one moment involving Carey and a wild animal that will probably end up being the funniest thing I see all year. All that plus Charles Melton spends every episode half-naked, as highlighted in the below trailer? What are you even doing here? Get over to Netflix, you fools!
This is literally the only advertisement Netflix needed to make for Beef's second season

Give Me Your Huddles Masses Yearning for...
... GODZILLA!!!!
I'd had this NYC reveal spoiled for me yesterday when this trailer premiered at CinemaCon and the news flew everywhere, so I felt fine just now tossing aside my general No Trailers rule and just watching this very brief one minute teaser for Godzilla Minus Zero -- if you didn't want to know this little tidbit and feel spoiled by me I apologize but I seriously doubt you'd have been able to make it to November 3rd without seeing at the very least this image. I'm planning on stopping here if possible -- just embrace the shock and awe of the sight of our big bad lizard friend sidling up to Lady Liberty like a lover-to-be and let your cells tingle with the thrill of it! We deserve this! (And here is my review of the incredible Godzilla Minus One if you missed it.)

Highway to Heck If I Know
What have I told you a million times? I have told you a million times, "Don't watch horror movie trailers!" And what have I said simultaneously a million times? "Oh by the way here's a horror movie trailer. Which you should not watch!" Hey whaddya want from me -- if I don't type up a post I'm just sitting here staring at the news and nobody wants that. We allow my brain a shark's forward momentum or panic takes hold. And hey -- speaking of panic! (King of the transitions, this guy right here.) One of my favorite horror movie directors André Øvredal has a new one coming out! Let's hope it's better than his last, the mediocre Dracula riff The Last Voyager of the Demeter, which had its moments but felt studio-mangled and suffered from some bad CG. Otherwise he's the director of Troll Hunter, Scary Stories in the Dark (underrated honestly), and his to-date crowning achievement The Autopsy of Jane Doe, aka one of the Great Horror Films of the 21st Century. All I know about Passenger is it stars a bunch of people whose names I don't recognize plus Melissa Leo and I think it's about somebody making the mistake of picking up the wrong person while driving. Other than that I saw Bloody Disgusting quote the director as saying he thinks this is his scariest movie yet, and that there's a bunch of stuff this trailer does not give away -- that's nice but I'm still not watching. But y'all feel free!
Passenger is out on May 22nd.

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...
... you can learn from:
Synonyms (2019)
Yoav: I moved to France to flee Israel. Flee a state that is nasty, obscene, ignorant, idiotic, sordid, fetid, crude, abominable, odious, lamentable, repugnant,
detestable, mean-spirited, mean-hearted...Emile: No country is all that at once.
Today is the 51st birthday of the rightfully outraged Israeli ex-pat filmmaker Nadav Lapid, who's weaponized his filmmaking to dissect the horrors of his homeland making one furious masterpiece after another. This includes the brilliant film above as well as 2014's The Kindergarten Teacher, 2021's Ahed's Knee, and the just-recently-released here in the U.S. film Yes. And speaking of Yes I am rather furious at myself for not reviewing that movie because I found it a total stunner, so let's throw down some words about it since the ocassion's presented itself. (I already shared the trailer right here.)
Yes tells the story of Y (Ariel Bronz) and his wife Yasmin (Efrat Dor) as they party the pain away in Tel Aviv, turning their radios up so they can drown out the sounds of the bombs dropping onto Gaza. He's a musician, she's a dance-instructor, and the two of them routinely hand off their baby son (pointedly named Noah) so they can humiliate themselves every night for the grotesque powers-that-be in order to sustain a living. Lapid gives the Israeli elite the full Beckmann & Dix treament, rendering them hideous to the point where they're literally bending over and waving their assholes in our face. It ain't sublte, nor should it be.
Since the pair are gorgeous and entertaining and simply good at what they do (i.e. debasing themselves with extreme vigor) Y & Yasmin move pretty easily up the social ladder, until Y finds himself charged with writing a new national anthem for Israel in the wake of the October 7th attacks. For there he's shot through the cannon of a dark night of the soul as he tries to come to terms with his role as propogandist for genocide, but Lapid spares no one his visciousness; everyone is to blame for keeping the broken system afloat. Yes is brutal, brilliant, a ballistic missle shot straight at our insidious self-preservation in the face of so much unspeakable. Its farce is tragedy, all too familiar. All the punchlines are a horror; our laughter curdled, indistinguishable from screams. How au current, if you will.
