Even though we got our first official still from Robert Eggers' Werwulf last week I did not expect them to be dropping the trailer this soon -- but they did! It's here! Even though the movie's not out until Christmas. I'm sure we'll get longer clips and teases closer to the release but honestly I am fine with this two minute long smorgasbord of gross images flashing by, up to and including...
... two count them two...
... looks at Aaron Taylor-Johnson starkers mid-transformation. What else do you need? (Apologies that I did not gif Lily-Rose Depp's hairlip even though I know you were shouting "Hairlip, hairlip!") Anyway obviously this is the movie I most want to see that remains in 2026 -- this is always the case when there's a Robert Eggers movie... well unless there's a Luca movie, I guess. But then it depends on subject matter. And Aaron's flexing buttocks do a lot of heavy lifting on they're lonesome. Anyway! It's Monday, I am not awake yet, just watch the trailer and buy your tickets when you can:
Beauty is fleeting. ATJ needs to STOP making films in which his spectacular physique and face is completely covered either in endless layers of clothing (Nosferatu) or in mud and detritus (28 Years Later and this film), and START staring only in films with contemporary stories in which he is covered in nothing. Starting.Right.Now. Please!
I'm liking the colour/non-colour/saturation/desaturation choices Eggers is making here. Also the immersive, all-in tactile filth. Everywhere. And in every scene. Nice.
THANK YOU. I think Egger's visual choices are always so interesting and rich and varied and singular to him, and then a trailer comes out for one of his movies and every little bitch on social media is like "I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING WHY IS IT SO DARK???" The richness of the images in Nosferatu on a big screen was absolutely stunning to me, I would live inside that world if I could. People are just lazy dammit
