5 Off My Head - Give Sam Some Sugar, Baby

.
Sam effin' Raimi (aka The Man) turns 50 years old today. Here's to hoping he's got another half-century of movie-making in him, eh? His triumphant return to horror this year, Drag Me To Hell, might not have been triumphant box-office-wise but quality-wise it was a barn-burner, and will surely live on in our homes and hearts forever and ever. Twas all I wanted it to be and more, oh so much maggot-vomited more.

So today, in his highly-esteemed honor, here are my five favorite Raimi flicks.

Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn (1987)
"Workshed."
The Gift (2000)
"Guess you'd better fuck me fast."
Spider-Man 2 (2004)
"Go get 'em, tiger."
Drag Me to Hell (2009)
"I don't want your cat, you dirty pork queen!"
A Simple Plan (1998)
"Do you ever feel evil?"
You know, I realized as I was doing this that I have never seen The Quick and the Dead or Darkman (or For the Love of the Game for that matter but I don't feel bad about skipping that one). I've even have a copy of Darkman at home for ages but I've just never gotten around to it. The shame. I know what I'm watching tonight.

Also, I could included all three Evil Dead films here but I chose to go with my favorite one of the bunch. I love them all but I think the middle one mixes the comedy and the horror most excellently.

The Quick and the Dead is awesome. Seriously, see it sometime. Great western with trademark Raimi moments.

I'm one of the few people who doesn't like the Spiderman film franchise all that much. The only real problems with it are MJ and the third film, but I prefer my action movies to be grittier than this, and also, it just reminds me of the suck-hole that is Smallville, and Lana Lang.
