Hey Pillion Wanting People!

I promised y'all I'd try to keep an eye out for news on the release of Harry Lighton's "dom-com" Pillion as A24 has slowly, slowly, slowly drizzled it into theaters, and so here, an update -- they posted on the social-media-site-that-shall-not-be-named today that the film will be going "nationwide" on February 20th. Whatever "nationwide" means but one assumes it means "in lots more theaters than it's in now." I don't have a list of theaters but hopefully this means you can see it then! You should! It's great -- yes that's my cue to link to my review for the five-hundredth time. Now enjoy these Harry Melling photos -- and on that note over at Pajiba our pal Kayleigh wrote about Harry Melling yesterday and it's a good read. He's a keeper.

I found that „Pillion“ is already available for download (original English version; optional English subtitles) at the Russian file sharing site called rutracker.org. If you can navigate in a bit of Cyrillic it’s easy to set-up an account. I’ve been using it for years. (I live in the EU and speak German, English, Italian, Czech, and Russian.)

I watched „Pillion“ last night and I found it even more satisfying and entertaining than the 100% fresh reviews at Rotten Tomatoes led me to believe.

There was one scene in which I was laughing so hard I had to hit the pause button till I recovered. I also cried – twice – but not at the moments you would expect (probably due to some of my personal baggage).

The acting is utterly magnificent, as are all the technical aspects. A very impressive directorial debut. I’ll see in which it finally opens in Kinos here, toward the end of March (there is a special Valentine’s Day screening at my neighbourhood Arthaus, but I will be at a screening of Fritz Lang’s 1924 „Die Nibelungen“ (over two nights) with live symphony orchestra.

I hope I haven’t bored you so far. If you’ve made it here, you might be able to help me. I am new to this site, and would very much like to open an account here. I am a film fanatic and my apartment increasingly looks like that closet they keep showing on the Criterion Collection website. I also have a vast collection of Queer Cinema from places like Lebanon, Hungary, Dänemark, Russia, and a lot from South America (love me some Marco Berger).

But … as a Neo-Luddite, I don’t use an iPhone or Smartphone (I also don’t do any kind of apps or social media or any of that; strictly email). When I attempted to open an account using an email address, I get to a step where it asks me to scan a QR code for verification. No, no, no: ain’t got no. I can’t get beyond this page and there are no other options for verification.

Can someone please offer a suggestion? Many thanks!
