"Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire might be starring in a remake of the classic Carol Reed film The Third Man, which is being written by Eastern Promises screenwriter Steven Knight. The package comes from Canal Plus and it's going out for bidding, and the bidding is likely to be fierce. That's a hell of a line-up, after all. And it's before they have a director in place."
Oh, barf.

"As it stands, this is a rumor at best and, more accurately, an informed online endorsement that could easily pick up steam amongst horror fans and online. Either way, it’s the weekend and the thought of Tobe Hooper, creator of Leatherface and director of 1974’s The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and its huggable ‘86 sequel, once again revving up the genre’s best ’saw hadn’t crossed my mind. It should have. According to Shock’s Ryan Rotten, while attending a party for Saw IV, he saw Hooper hanging with TCM2’s Bill Moseley and, more importantly, the team at Twisted Pictures. Dots connected, and Rotten has fully thrown his support behind Hooper’s possible involvement. "
This second bit isn't even really a rumor per se, it's just a web-based plea that started over at STYD. There's nothing solid behind it besides Hooper's proximity to the folks who now own the rights. And while I sorta mostly appreciate the sentiment of Tobe returning to the franchise he started - and his original film is a masterpiece, no doubt - after suffering through the last couple of things he's directed lately I really can't make myself be that enthusiastic about him returning to the franchise. Maybe it would be the spark he needed to regain some sort of, I don't know, ability to make a coherent film? Since he can't seem to do that anymore? Maybe not.

Sadly, Hooper peaked under Spielberg's tutelage. And I honestly think TCM2 is much better than the first - far creepier. Chop=Top still makes me shudder, just thinking about that heated hanger hook.
