Please Please Please Be Good

.
I so want John Carpenter to make another good damned movie. He hasn't made a feature since Ghosts of Mars (urgh) in 2001; he did direct a couple of episodes of the Masters of Horror series - I still haven't seen "Pro-Life" but I thought "Cigarette Burns" was creepy enough in parts. Besides that... god I'm gonna sound like such a cretin, but his movies have been sloppy for 25 years. I love him and I love big, huge chunks of the things he's done since it but the last truly Great Film he made was in 1982 with The Thing as far as I'm concerned. Which... well I still feel terribly warm feelings towards Carpenter as a director anyway, while I say the same sort of thing about Ridley Scott's filmography - that he hasn't made a great movie in that long either - and that's just tinged with disgust now. Hmm. Anyway, as for the new flick (via):

"Danielle Panabaker will star opposite Amber Heard in "The Ward," a psychological horror thriller that John Carpenter is directing for Echo Lake Entertainment and A Bigger Boat.

The story follows a girl (Heard) who is admitted to a psychiatric ward, meets other girls there with distinct personalities and discovers a mysterious girl haunting the halls at night.

Panabaker plays a patient in the institution, a snobbish girl who flirts with orderlies and faces electroshock therapy.

Mamie Gummer ("Taking Woodstock") also has been cast as a patient."

Panabaker was fine if a bit bland in the Friday the 13th remake as the only girl not to show her tits (Am I right about that? I don't remember her showing them but I am so immune to those things). I already posted on Heard's attachment to this flick here. Gummer is of course Meryl Streep's lovely daughter and I have nice enough memories of her small performance in Evening.

What he needs to do is find a role for his ex-wife Adrienne Barbeau. They seem to be on good terms and she's still working. Barbeau forever!!!

Wow. I had no idea.

I'm going to be the bearer of bad tidings here JA. It's not going to be good. For good or bad, JC is sitting back and collecting checks. Cigarette Burns was interesting in parts, but still not great. And I'm a lot more forgiving than you are since I love Prince of Darkness and They Live and even Vampires. Well, maybe not love Vampires, but I like it. Okay! I own it. Don't judge me.
