New York City's got me so spoiled - I see things early and then I'm all like, "Oh the proletariat hasn't gotten to watch that yet? Poor little peons! Mmmm cake." Take Green Room, the new movie from the director of Blue Ruin, which stars Patrick Stewart as a skinhead bar owner and Anton Yelchin and Alia Shawkat, amongst others...

... as the punk band trapped in his establishment after shit goes down - I saw it last week, I loved it last week, and I reviewed it right here, but then when I saw The Playlist drop the new trailer for it I was all like, "Oh wait, that's not even out yet? Huh." Anyway point being hey look there's a new trailer for this very very good movie that you should see once you're good enough, once you're up on my level, to see it, and here's that trailer.

What Happens In The Green Room, Stays...

.

The tension starts snaking through from the first frame of Green Room - director Jeremy Saulnier's crackerjack follow-up to his 2013 breakthrough Blue Ruin - and before your throat even notices the air's not coming. The walls, painted black, have already closed in. Escape, Borg-like, is futile. Appropriate given Captain Picard's presence - Patrick Stewart too is there before you even realize it, and by then it's too late, by ten.

That chestnut tale of a likable cast of likable young faces who find themselves cock-deep in the horror, the horror - the slasher movie cabin-in-the-woods stripped, gutted, spray-painted and pissed upon; the Scream movie staple with a baby-pin through its tit. Punk Rock meets Torture Porn, and a nasty little pig-fucker of a movie is born, pet its pretty wet head.

I was more mixed on Blue Ruin than I'd hoped I'd be but I am unreservedly in ahh-more-ay with Green Room, a breakneck bottle-rocket of situation abnormal further fucked up, where everything that can go wrong goes wronger and wrongest, wriggling, making stumps of hands and feet, hobbling with a heartfelt "Fuck Y'all" towards Molotov oblivion. Light that bitch on fire and burn the Queen down! Good stuff, good stuff!

--- Bite Off - The Playlist has a new batch of pictures from Jim Jarmusch's vampire flick Only Lovers Left Alive starring Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton which finally includes a good look at Tommy boy's lovely lean torso, which the film lovingly details time and again. You may recall I reviewed it when it played at NYFF the other month. I guess the film's not being released properly until some time next year.

--- Not Wing - All the Batman Versus Superman news of the moment is rounded up right here, including word from Adam Driver's own mouth that he don't know nothing bout no Nightwing, ya dig? Well that's a shame. Also at the link, Christian Bale has pissing advice for Ben Affleck.

--- Ahoy Sexy - Last week we heard that Hanna director Joe Wright was going to make a Peter Pan movie; this one focusing on the genesis of Pan himself. Well apparently Wright's leaping right in because there's already talk that they've offered Javier Bardem the role of Blackbeard - I guess they're realing shit up and it's Blackbeard, not Captain Hook, who's the pirate to beat up in here.

--- Grey Heat - A producer on the 50 Shades of Gray movie says the movie will be rated R, but hey maybe they'll release an NC-17 cut too. Because hey they haven't made the movie yet or anything but, headlines!

--- Fast Hands - There's a new trailer for the video-game adaptation Need For Speed starring Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper, as well as some new pictures, over here - and yeah I know this looks really bad, but you know I gotta support my boy Dominic.

--- Everything Emma - Over at The Film Experience Nat recounts his moment chilling with Emma Thompson in Los Angeles the other week, and shocker, she sounds totally and completely delightful.

--- Re Start - I liked this piece on the wonderful 2007 time-bender Timecrimes over at The AV Club - I'd never really thought about thatexplicitly as an adultery metaphor but it makes a lot of sense.

--- Til Death - Gremlins director Joe Dante's making a movie called Burying the Ex (I hope they change that, it's an awful title) which will star Anton Yelchin and Ashley greene as a couple who do not get along, which gets complicated when she croaks and then rises from the grave. As things do, when that happens. Anyway hey look at that picture of Anton, y'all! Hubba et cetera!

--- Zombie Cuatro - I pretty much love all three of the [REC] movies that've come out so far - to varying degrees; the first film is terrifying, the others less so, the third is a straight up horror comedy, but they're all great - so count me on board for the fourth, which will be out next year. Anyway STYD has a behind-the-scenes thing with some footage in it.

--- A Whale of a Male - Human Tree Trunk Chris Hemsworth is circling the lead role in The Heart of the Sea, which is an adaptation of a book about the true story of a Nantucket boat in 1820 that's hunted and destroyed by a sperm whale. Insert joke about destroying Chris Hemsworth with sperm here.

--- Two Penny - For awhile it was rumored that Angelina Jolie was taking on the lady role (of course there's only one, natch) in Ridley Scott's The Counselor, aka that movie about Michael Fassbender dealing drugs and it not working out well for him, written by Cormac McCarthy, but now it appears that Penny Cruz has signed on instead. Cruz is also going to work with Pedro Almodovar again in his next movie, Los Amantes Pasajeros (The Brief Lovers), about an affair on an airplane. Will the whole thing be shot on an airplane? I love the thought of a colorful lively Almodovar movie set in such a small space.

--- Living Lovers - Yesterday's hot piece Anton Yelchin has joined the cast of Jim Jarmusch's long-in-the-making vampire movie with Tilda Swinton called Only Lovers Left Alive. It also stars Tom Hiddleston (who replaced Michael Fassbender, or at least the rumor of Michael Fassbender) and Mia Wasikowska, so you, know, wow.

--- Satan's Man - I'd heard that a movie was being made about the "West Memphis Three" but I was never particularly obsessed with that story so I hadn't been paying attention so I missed that it was Atom Egoyan making it - I only learn this now that I hear about Alessandro Nivola taking on the role of the long-suspected actual guilty party, creepy stepfather Terry Hobbs. Mmm guilty of murder Nivola...

--- Heavens To Bee - Serious thespian and proponent of layered highlights Phillip Seymour Hoffman has apparently been offered the role of Plutarch Heavensbee (yeah, that's a character's name) in Catching Fire, aka the number two Hunger Games. He replaces Wes Bentley's swirl-bearded bo-hunk as creator of the game-space where our embattled contestants duke it out.

--- Psyche On - Glenn got to take on a double-feature of surrealist weirdo Alejandro Jodorowsky's El Topo and The Holy Mountain on the big screen and here are his thoughts, which I agree with whole-heartedly.

--- Running Partner - Other Fiennes Joseph worked with American Horror Story maker Ryan Murphy in his disastrously bad movie Running With Scissors (playing gay even), and now they might reunite with AHS, Joe taking on a role in the show's already out of control second season. (New time! New place! Old actors playing new characters! Oh my.)

--- Fro-less - Charlize Theron has shaved her head, apparently for her role in Mad Max 4. Meanwhile we all've been watching while Tom Hardy's been growing out his face for Mad Max 4. It's a hair crazy movie!

Right there are the UK posters for the characters that Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell play in the Fright Night remake. (via) Obviously by picking those two from the several character posters and placing them beside each other I am totally pretending to make them kiss. I'm like a three year old girl with her dolls (in so many ways) up in here. Smoochie smoochie you two!

I didn't realize until right this very second that the director Craig Gillespie had directed a slew of United States of Tara episodes. I guess that's how Toni Collette got the mom gig. I mean besides being awesome and deserving of any part ever, of course.

Anyway perhaps this means that he'll fill out his probable next project Pride and Prejudice and Zombies with Tara faces. Brie Larson is Elizabeth Bennett! And Keir Gilchrist is Mr. Darcy!

--- Spooky Stevie - Y'all have probably already watched this but the teaser trailer for Steven Spielberg's mo-cap Rin Tin Tin Rides a Unicorn or whatever it's called movie is online now, if you're curious. I'll watch it later but pre-seeing I am bogged down with doubts, man. One too many dead-eyed Zemeckis movies have put me off this shit, and nothing I've seen from the early art-work's proven that impression wrong yet. That said, I'm an eternal unapologetic Spielberg fan-boy so I'll presumably be convinced otherwise at some point.

--- Noe Way - Can you believe I still haven't watched Enter the Void yet? Every time I've glanced at the DVD I see that it's 161 minutes long and I just haven't been in the state of mind for it. Shame on me. Looks like Noe might be turning his sanity-challenged eye to Bret Easton Ellis' script called The Golden Suicides next, which would be a meeting of the pyschos for sure.

--- Killer Kevin - BD has three clips and an ankle-suck picture from that Vampire movie starring Kevin Zegers as a you-guessed-it vampire, but he's not naked and/or gay in any of them so I lost interest right quick. Come on, Kevin. I mean really. Know your fan-base.

--- Peen Poll - I don't think you're gonna find another poll on the week's multimedia penises anywhere but at The Film Experience today. Which is a damned shame - they should be everywhere!

--- To A Flame - It doesn't sound like things are going well for Mary Harron's new horror movie The Moth Diaries, which co-stars Scott Speedman - according to BD it's been having trouble getting picked up by a distributor. WTF morons? Mary "American Psycho" Harron has fans sitting here dying from want, and we're being kept from finished product. It ain't right. Read more about TMD here. --- For contrast, young male horror director JT Petty - who I like just fine don't get me wrong; read my review of his film S&Man here - is having no trouble at all piling up project after project. He's just signed on to direct a J-Horror flick in Japan called Haunted Temple for producers behind the Ring and Ju-On films, while he's not even finished his other movie Hellbenders (more on that here) yet.

James Franco's hot brother Dave has joined the cast of the Fright Night remake, says The Playlist:

"Rising actor and famous sibling Dave Franco has been added to the cast of Craig Gillespie's remake of 1985 campy horror film "Fright Night."

The project is currently shooting in New Mexico and boasts a strong cast including Anton Yelchin as the lead, Toni Collette as his mother, Imogen Poots as his love interest, Christopher Mintz-Plasse as his friend Evil Ed, David Tennant as magician Peter Vincent and Colin Farrell as a "Jaws"-like vampire living next door. We didn't think much of it when Gillespie was announced as director for the remake but with all these thespians? We're definitely signed up.

“I play the arrogant asshole-bully," explained Franco — who recently featured in Noah Baumbach's "Greenberg" in the "You Kids..." scene. "Anton plays the main kid so I’m his nemesis at school until he runs into Colin who is supposed to be the ultimate bad guy in the movie. Yeah I play the d–k, so it’s fun.”

Replace the "the" with "with" - say that five times fast - and that last sentence gets a whole lot awesomer, am I right or am I right? Anyway this movie's cast is an awesome cast indeed. They say it'll be out in time for All Hallows 2011.

I missed National Underwear Day last year, the horror, so I'm jumping on it here in 2010. I did posts in honor of this splendid day in 2008, 2007, and 2006. Thankfully there's no shortage of guys dropping their drawers. (Perish the thought!) I think most of these are new but if I do say so myself I'm rather prolific in this area so no doubt there are a couple repeats. As if excessive underpants shots are a crime! Are You Kidding Me With This Cast?

Back at the beginning of April when Anton Yelchin took the lead role as the suspicious boy-next-door-to-a-vampire in the Fright Night remake I admitted that I've never really been that big of a fan of the original film. I've seen it a few times (although it's been awhile) and it has its moments but overall I really was never attached to it. It definitely has remake potential, methinks. So today this news springs up over here and you know the finale of Buffy where all the potential slayer-magicks are loosened into the world (I can get away with a Buffy reference here since Marti Noxon wrote the Fright Night remake's script)? Well this news feels like that sorta potential-avalanche. Bring it the eff on.

"Colin Farrell has stayed away from studio films in the last few years, but how has found two he can sink his teeth into. I'm told Farrell has just committed to next play a charismatic neighbor/vampire in Fright Night, the Craig Gillespie-directed DreamWorks remake of the 1985 thriller that will also star Anton Yelchin and Toni Collette.

... In Fright Night, he'll play the role originated by Chris Sarandon, the charming bloodsucker who tries to talk his horror film fanatic neighbor that he is a vampire who has come to drain the populace."

Now that brief mention of Toni Collette in there is the fist I'd seen her mentioned anywhere, but she'll presumably be playing Anton's mother who gets romanced by the neighbor-vamp, played by Farrell. And oh my god yes! My sort-of interest in this remake, if it goes forward with this cast, just went thru the roof. The world turned on Farrell there for a couple of years where he was admittedly playing up his drunken-leprechaun schtick a little heavily but I never did, I never did! I loved him through good and bad, and in this post-In Bruges world it's obvious that dedication (unlike the Lindsay Lohan sort) has paid off.

And Toni... well she's just perfect, period. I was just talking to the boyfriend about her performance in The Sixth Sense over the weekend and I started thinking about that scene in the car - y'all know the scene, it's the Oscar clip moment - and I started tearing up just from memory. Have y'all been keeping up with United States of Tara? It's so good, y'all. So good. Anyway ramble ramble this news is awesome. I've heard questionable things about the script and somebody major-awesome met with the producers once upon a time about being behind this remake but it didn't work out, sadly, but since this is the way they're going they're certainly choosing a cast to pay attention to.

--- Hot Platz - Tony Scott's making an action thiller blah blah it's set to co-star Jason Statham and Javier Bardem, a pair I'd never have envisioned together - or "together" - before but now, well, I like where my mind is going with this.

--- Drac Next Door - Adorable bat-boy Anton Yelchin has signed on to play the kid who thinks his new neighbor's a vampire in the remake of Fright Night, scripted by Buffy's Marti Noxon. Is it blasphemy of me to say that I really have very little attachment to the original Fright Night? I've seen it a few times of course, it's one of those movies I think everyone has, but I've never been that big a fan of it all the same. So remake away, remake gods! Just keep the creepy gay subtext, please.

--- So Fiennes (He Blows My Mind) - If there was one lesson to be had from the Clash of the Titans remake - besides that I have low standards - it's gotta be that Ralph Fiennes can work magic with whatever he's given, always. The way he arched his brow whenever he pulsed in on his dark-cloud-wings was gloriously funny, and he knew it, and he worked it. Love him so much. Anyway! There's a blog that's following the progress of his directing debut, a modernized adaptation of the never-filmed-before Shakespeare play Coriolanus, pretty closely. It costars Gerard Butler, Brian Cox and Vanessa Redgrave.

--- Kretschmann Syndrome - There's a lot of talk of the dizzying effect of great works of art in Adam's great take on Dario Argento's 1996 film The Stendhal Syndrome, but what's making me dizzy is remembering Thomas Kretschmann's eye-scorching beauty within. (You want to click on that link.) Ahhh!
