Josh Heuston Two Times
This gorgeous man's reign of terror on me personally continues on unabated with these new photos from GQ Australia -- there are a couple more at this link if you think you can summon the strength to not tear your own face off for its inadequacies once you've done so. I myself have not the willpower! My face has already been ripped off five times today, and now it's just loosely stapled to my skull, half flapping in the breeze. Wow this post took a turn didn't it? It's a good thing nobody reads what I write here -- not when there's Josh to be stared at anyway. I could say anything! And I love that, much like Ray Stantz before me, when pressed to think of something random I immediately thought of marshmallows. I have been dying for a marshmallow lately. I think it is that when I was visiting upstate home a few weeks back I was momentarily offered s'mores but then said s'mores never came to fruition. How cruel is that? To renege on s'mores? What kind of a monster does such a thing? I will never get over that. Never. Anyway good night.

Give This Piece a Chance
I'm trying to will the care-free mood seen in this photo of Charles Melton into my own existence today -- spoiler alert: it ain't working. I don't know if my partner was punching me in the side of the head all night long as I slept (no this is not a cry for help) but I woke up feeling like I didn't sleep a single second last night, and I be draggggggging my ass this Thursday. This is pointless information for anyone who isn't "me" I know but it's good that I remind myself that this site is just a stupid fucking blog sometimes and I don't have to feel bad about insubstantial content. Tis my prerogative! Is it weird that typing that word out always makes me want to eat pierogies? In summation -- aren't you glad you just wasted one minute of your life reading this post? You're welcome. Any time.
ETA Just got word my office is closing tomorrow so I am officially giving up for the long weekend. Hands in air, Jason don't care. I'm headed to a screening in half an hour (Backrooms baby!) and then I'm off until Tuesday. I should add since we're doing Accounting Of My Time here that NewFest and Tribeca Fest stuff start plaguing / entertaining me next week so my schedule's about to get nuts again -- on the positive side Summer Fridays at my day-job also kick off... well tomorrow now, I guess. Which means four-day weeks through Labor Day. Yes I am rambling! Let me ramble! I have half an hour to kill and need to stop fussing over my Tribeca schedule, which is much of what I've been working on this week. Anyway stay tuned -- coverage of those fests and lots more to come! Probably including me choking to death on my own bile! Have a great holiday weekend! Think of me like this (if you think of me at all):

Sufjan Turns Water Sports Into Poetry
No the above image is unfortunaely not the cover of a new Sufjan Stevens album -- god, imagine! That would make my millennium. No, this is new old news instead -- via Stereogum comes the story that apparently when Sufjan was in college at the New School in the 90s he wrote a little chapbook of poetry that included poems he wrote every time he had to pee, alongside a photo of the place he peed. This came via a person who knew him in college and is now a professor at Penn State -- he showed the book to his students and obviously, they took this wonderful news to the internet to share lightning quick. There are more images at the link up top but I think the one below really sets the scene best. This is so him. He needs to reprint this book immediately. I know I'd rather die than let anyone read all the poetry I wrote in college (did y'all know I graduated with a Minor in Poetry? Can't you tell from my exceptional use of da English language?) but this is something different. This is History!

More Shit For Sale
If these posts are too often and annoying now... well don't let me know. I don't care. I just really have too much shit and not enough money so I'm going to keep pushing the fact that y'all should be checking my eBay account for deals on physical media and the like often, as I'm constantly -- some might say obsessively -- updating it with new things to unload. Over the break I listed a lot, including most of the box-sets of T.V. series I'd been hanging onto -- I'd love to keep the entire Buffyverse in my cold dead hands but I just no longer have the space, alas. And yes if the sleaze of Paul Verhoeven's The 4th Man as seen in the above gif is more your cuppa that's available right now as well! There's something for everybody.

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...
... you can learn from:
Pieces (1982)
Student 1: Have you ever been laid on a waterbed?Student 2: The most beautiful thing in the world issmoking pot and fucking on a waterbed at the same time.
Happy Lynda Day George Day to all who celebrate! When I do these posts I usually choose a quote from a character played by the person who's celebrating their birthday. But considering the fact that I will probably never in my life know what day the birthdays of the actors who played "Studennt 1" and "Student 2" in Pieces fall on, and yet that quote demands being a part of this series, I'm making an exception. And I used Lynda Day's most iconic Pieces moment to celebrate her birthday last year, as seen below. What a movie. What a FILM.
HAPPY 80 TO HORROR ICON LYNDA DAY GEORGE TODAY!!!

Just a Reminder...
... as we head into the holidays that if you do some of your shopping on Amazon (devil horns, pointy fork, evil incarnate) you can and should do it via MNPP's link here or in the right-hand column. That way at least a few of the pennies that are supposed to go into Jeff Bezos' plastic surgery funds get funneled over to mine. Well my pocket that is, not my plastic surgery fund. Although... ahem. Nevermind. But since we can no longer run advertising on the site because of all the dirty pictures this is the only way we make anything on everything we do here! That plus any donations made via PayPal, also in the right-hand column. Oh and you can buy my shit on eBay too of course! Point being it's all appreciated. (And speaking of dirty pictures, pictured above is Channing Tatum in the really very good film Roofman and we'll have more to come from there eventually.)

Buy My Shit
Just a quick heads-up before I head home to collapse -- I spent some time this weekend re-organizing my out-of-control physical media collection, and so yes I listed a heap of movies and such on the ol' eBay for sale! Click here to check out what could be yours yours yours for the low low price of whatever I'm asking for it or a relatively reasonable offer you make instead. I was surprised that some of the stuff I listed was selling for quite so much but I promise you everything is priced according to what it's been going for, and like I said -- make me a good offer and I'll bend! (That's what I'm always saying.) Viva fuckin' cinema, yo.

Your Weekend Must Watch
I have had a million reasons to thank Stacie Ponder of Final Girl fame over the past two decades that the two of us have been parallel blogging here on the internet, but Doppleganger is sure the latest one. A truly bewildering slab of camp supernatural horror from 1993 that stars Drew Barrymore that I'd somehow never even heard of, much less seen -- not until Stacie announced she was covering on this week's episode of her podcast "Final Girl After Dark," anyway. So I watched this movie last night and... holy fucking hell, where has this movie been all my days? I'm not going to spoil anything, I'm not saying a single more word on it -- I'm only here to tell every single one of you to go watch this outrageous and unhinged movie right this minute if you too have never seen it and therefore not yet lived. It's streaming all over the place including on Tubi or right here on Prime. I promise you that whatever you think is going to happen in this movie you will never guess what is going to happen in this movie. And then after you've watched it go listen to Stacie dive into its WTF-ery and cry-laugh along with her. I paused the movie and went online and bought the blu-ray 3/4s of the way into my viewing experience, and that was before the last act happens, which... my god. Cinema is still out there. You just have to go digging y'all. Masterpiece!

Leave No Ma Behind
I don't know if any of you missed the news yesterday that Octavia Spencer is returning as Ma in Ma 2: The Ma-ening, but I wouldn't want anyone to go without that news so here I am making sure you don't. Yes I made up that title but clearly -- clearly -- that needs to be the title. I am available for script supervision, Octavia! I'm cheap! (Cheap as fuck.) Here is my review of the first movie -- here is the bit that really sells the movie, I think:
"Ma is superficially ninety minutes of ridiculousness and fun, a goof where Missi Pyle gets plowed over for a lark and Luke Evans' peekaboo cock is put to excellent prop use; where a lewdly photographed teenage boy does a gratuitous striptease and Allison Janney gets put in a dog cage."
So let's hope they know the movie they're making and
they go for it again. Welcome to the Ma Rennassaince!

Buy Buy Buy Sell Sell Sell
Heads-up to those of you who've bought from me on eBay, or those of you who haven't yet even -- I just piled another pile of movies up for sale! Check 'em all out here. I did a deep dive into my collection over the weekend so most of this was stuff I had multiple copies of or stuff that I looked at and thought to myself, "Why the fuck did you buy that?" Sometimes you buy shit to feel alive, baby, and that's what I'm hoping y'all will do. Some of the new stuff is priced extremely high, I am aware of this -- turns out that box-set of Cartoon Saloon's Irish Folklore Trilogy is way out of print and going for a heap of money, I had no idea until I looked it up...
... but a lot of it is reasonably priced too. I got something for everybody! Well not for people who don't like movies I suppose, but fuck those people. (Or rather, don't.) Anyway everything is listed that you can toss me an offer and if it's not unreasonable I almost always accept -- but then I am the judge of what's reasonable or not, so that depends on my whims. (A good rule of thumb is offering somebody 50% of what they're asking is a dick move though, so don't be that person.) Anyway buy my shit! I don't want to die buried beneath it -- I'd prefer to roll around in money with Woody Harrelson in his boxer briefs at least once before I die obviously.

Eyes Up Here!
I'm sure several of you brainiacs have long been familiar with the 1956 Japanese science-fiction film Warning From Space but I only found out about it this week and watched it on Prime last night and here we are, interupting our regularly scheduled beefcake parade to recommend this wild and wackadoo piece of vintage WTF-ery. The copy that's on Prime is good, a perfectly fine way to first experience the film, but I have to wager the blu-ray that Arrow put out in 2020 is probably even better and you can buy that right here if you're a maniac like me (which yes translates to "I bought this blu ray halfway through watching it on streaming because it was rocking me so hard.") Anyway -- just what the hell is this movie?
Glad you asked. It's about a race of starfish aliens with one big eye in their centers who beam down to Earth, immediately realize they're hideously ugly and so they then morph into a cabaret singer (I mean obviously) so they can deliver their message of imminent doom to humanity. From there it all gets a little bit Melancholia, a little bit Threads, and yes I am indeed naming some of the darkest movies you can imagine because it really gets that dark at times. But I'd also include Tin Burton's Mars Attacks! to the mix -- hell even David Lynch seems like he might've been influenced by this movie. It's super weird while also absolutely gorgeous to look at in that midcentury sci-fi kinda way. Point being I'm 100% obsessed with it now and I am here recommending y'all take the trip yourselves if you haven't already. And if you have tell me you're obsessed too in the comments so we can bond over it please!
Cannot believe WARNING FROM SPACE only entered my life today - I am going to have to spend every day for the rest of my life making up for its absence

Beggars Off Russell's Backside
Hey look it's Russell Crowe's bum in Virtuosity! Remember when that happened? That was a nice time for the entire family. Pretty sure this was the first time I ever saw Mr. Crowe and while I can't say that I have resolutely stayed a fan of his through the decades this was a perfect introduction. Anyway now that I have your attention this is one of those posts I hate posting but I am feeling the need to today given some unexpected financial difficulties -- and yes I'm deeply aware the world is burning so please feel free to skip on past if you're unable. There are also way more important causes to donate to right now -- I recommend the ACLU first and foremost. But if you have got an extra cent or ten after you've done that why not head on over to my eBay store and buy some movies from me? Like the 4K of Virtuosity, even! (I also added a couple of Michael Haneke box-sets which are total steals!) Plus vinyl and books and posters -- I've got tons of entertainment shite for sale and you can make offers on everything; don't feel the need to pay full price. Or if you don't want anything but would still like to help here is a link for that. You can also set up a monthly subscription over there in the right-hand column too. Or if you wanna use Venmo message me. I seriously appreciate any help, always and forever. Y'all rule. If blogging really dumb thoughts were pennies I'd be a millionaire, but unfortunately I'm just sort of treading (under)water these days. Thanks y'all, from both me and the Crowe butt.
