Good Morning, World

I love it when actors do the work for me -- and you can chisel that on my tombstone -- so thanks to German actor Matthias Schweighöfer for posting this new photoshoot in honor of his own 44th birthday today! Schweighöfer was a great big star in Germany before making some in-roads here in the States thanks mainly to Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead zombie action movie -- his character even got his own spin-off prequel with Army of Thieves the same year. And then he had a small role in Oppenheimer too but then well who didn't? Anyway he first caught our eye well before that, romping about in his altogether with his buddy and also MNPP fave Florian David Fritz in the movie 100 Things which I must've posted about a half billion times back circa 2018. Maybe that's how he also caught Zack Snyder's eye! Sounds about right to me. Anyway hit the jump for the birthday boy's full fine new photoshoot...

Guten Morgen, World

I've got a pile of random photos that people posted on Instagram over the holiday break sitting on my computer right now so hopefully they'll get me through a little bit of time with these "Good Morning" posts -- like this morning here is a shirtless selfie that German actor and director Matthias Schweighöfer posted (via) a week back -- do I have anything else to say about Matthias Schweighöfer this morning? I do not. But I'm not angry he shared this with us. Oh and he also posted a shirtless video but I have no idea what he's talking about (he's speaking German of course) -- you can watch that here, and here's a gif I made from it:

Good Morning, World

How many of you watched Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead on Netflix (or in theaters I suppose) this weekend? If you did then you probably noticed German twunk Matthias Schweighöfer (seen here in another movie, the 2011 film What a Man) and maybe you recognized him from some of his German films, or maybe you recognized him from my incessant posting about him over the past several years -- whatever it was there he was, still being adorable, only this time with zombies. And as per usual when it comes to Matthias...

... or at least what I have experienced of him (you should check out his movie 100 Things with Florian David Fitz, or at least my posts about it)  -- his character had mad chemistry with another dude. In this instance Omari Hardwick's hard-ass Vanderohe -- and that's not just me projecting! There's an entire interview with the two actors at Collider about their "bromance." (Thx Mac) Anyway the happy news is apparently an entire spin-off film has already been made about Schweighöfer's character -- Schweighöfer himself directed it (he's been directing in Germany for awhile), it's called Army of Thieves, and it's a prequel about his character's time during the zombie apocalypse, which in Snyder's film happens over the opening credits. It's going to be out before this year is over. Let's hope Matthias knows his audience and gays it up!

As Good As Dead

I don't know if you were privy to my inflamed reaction to the entire Justice League Snyder Cut bullshit debacle -- think I said more, or should I say "shrieked more," about it on twitter than I did here on the site proper. But I found the entire spectacle distasteful -- the fact that so much money got tossed at it on a poisonous flotilla of toxic fanboy behavior; the fact that a terrible film got turned into a four-hour terrible film; the fact that anyone with eyes and ears tried to say it was any better on the ass-end of the experience and not just hours and hours more shit. Anyway in my ever so humble opinion that was a gross experience for all parties involved!

That said the devil help me I am definitely feeling myself suckered in to Mr. Snyder's next movie, the zombie-heist flick Army of the Dead. It recalls the good part of Snyder's career -- aka the start, with his Dawn of the Dead remake. And it's truly got a super cast. Who can argue with Dave Bautista? He's so goddamned likable. You add Hiroyuki Sanada, Garret Dillahunt, Matthias Schweighöfer, Raúl Castillo, Omari Hardwick (seen above, strapping it on), and a zombie tiger? A zombie tiger! And I am pretty sure I saw a horde of Chippendales dancer zombies at one point? I can't fight this, you guys. Here's the just-dropped trailer:

We'll find out soon anyway, since Army of the Dead is hitting Netflix in a little over a month on May 21st. That said this is definitely one I'm a little annoyed I won't be able to see on a big screen. Right? It is screaming out for a great big screen.

You and and Me and Whose Army

I didn't post the poster for Zack Snyder's forthcoming Zombies-in-Vegas movie Army of the Dead last week because I haven't quite decided where I stand on the movie -- Zack Snyder's 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake was far better than it had any right to be and I was his fan for a good long while after it, but diminishing cinematic returns (and his professed love of Ayn Rand, barf) eventually snuffed out that flame. But this thing has got a cast!

The film, which hits Netflix on May 21st, stars Dave Bautista, exhibitionist-Deutsche -twunk Matthias Schweighöfer (see plenty more of him here), the great Hiroyuki Sanada (we love him very much), the great Raúl Castillo (with an admittedly godawful hair-do), the great Garret Dillahunt, and many many more. There are even girls, I suspect!

Anyway I have clearly caved and am posting about the movie today because they released a trailer and it looks like a heap of big dumb Zombies-in-Vegas fun. I spotted both a Liberace and an Elvis in the mix -- it's a shame Zack couldn't get Celine Dion to play herself, but who knows what surprises he's got in store. Watch the trailer yourselves, here and now, and give me your thoughts in the comments:

Florian David Fitz Nine Times

.
It's kind of weird to see the German actor Florian David Fitz without his constant (nude) companion writer-director-actor-nudist Matthias Schweighöfer after they spent most of the past, uhh, two years I think, promoting their comedy film 100 Things (and we spent just as much time posting about it). That movie still hasn't been released here in the US, although you can buy a differently-regioned DVD from abroad, one that naturally features them naked on its cover because what else is that movie.

But I guess he's still a hit in Germany since GQ's put him on their "Men of the Year" cover (via), and especially we're grateful for it since it comes with a photoshoot that all about mustaches, half-off sweaters, and leather pants. Those are literally 73% of our favorite things! Hit the jump for the rest...

Pic of the Day

.
Thanks to Raúl Castillo and his electric yellow pompadour for sharing this shot from the set of Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead movie, which has that chin-dimpled director-man returning to the zombie flick for the first time since his best film the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. See our previous post on the new film right here -- it's a heist film set in Las Vegas during the Zombie Apocalypse, and it's got a delicious cast that also includes  Garret Dillahunt, Hiroyuki Sanada, Dave Bautista, and Matthias Schweighöfer. So it's basically Ocean's Arrrrrgh.

Five Man Army

.
You always know it's a good sign when I'm not sure which member of a cast to google first for pictures to accompany a new film announcement -- I went with Raul Castillo (once I realized I hadn't posted the above photo when I'd posted the rest of its sweltering sexy photoshoot) but Zack Snyder's new movie also gave me the option of the great Garret Dillahunt, the classic Hiroyuki Sanada, the brick shithouse of Dave Bautista, the much-loved-from-afar German Twunk Matthias Schweighöfer.

My goodness and gracious. I know I know, I said "Zack Snyder," we all collectively shudder a bit. But once upon a time Zack Snyder made some fun movies -- I was with him longer than most sane folks, up through Sucker Punch even, or at least some of it; it was the superheroes that truly did him in. And yes I agree his Ayn Rand thing is a horror. But this new flick, besides this cast, is returning him to his roots -- it's a zombie flick a la his Dawn of the Dead remake, called Army of the Dead, which... okay let's retire the "of the Dead" titles in honor to George Romero. Those were his. But this sounds like a fun idea -- it's a heist movie set in a post-zombie-apocalypse Las Vegas. Come on! That sounds fun! Also there's this guy...

Pic of the Day

.
Lord knows how long ago this photo was taken since it was taken on the set of a film that's already been released in most places, but that there picture of the actor August Diehl hanging out with the Matthias Schoenaerts and the Matthias Schweighöfer (who turns 38 today) on the set of Thomas Vinterberg's submarine drama Kursk is something I clearly gotta have here on my website, however old it might prove to be. Kursk is supposedly getting a US release in June -- we posted the trailer back here. So stay tuned for that! As for Mr. Schoenaerts he's got a new movie out here in the US this Friday called The Mustang (here is that trailer) -- I'll be talking about that more tomorrow! And now, at last, in conclusion... if you feel like giving me an answer for our "Do Dump or Marry" series for the three pictured I'd love to hear your opinions in the comments...

Good Morning, World

.
Happy Monday to one and all with what will probably be my last post on German actors Matthias Schweighöfer and  Florian David Fitz's latest bromoerotic film called 100 Dinge (aka 100 Things) until it's out for American Consumption, by whatever means necessary - it opened in Germany this past weekend I believe, so now we'll just have to wait n' see what happens with it, distribution-wise, down the road. We had a good run! Click here for the several posts I have done.  The above gif comes from a video Matthias shared. All that said hi everybody, and let's try to get ourselves going this morning...

Good Morning, World

.
I'm real sad that the German gay-baiting romp 100 Dinge starring Matthias Schweighöfer and Florian David Fitz is hitting theaters over there next week, because it introduces a sense of finality to the nudity parade that they've been hocking for months now - see here and here and here and here for our coverage - I would like this to go on forever, guys! Start making the sequel immediately, please. Well for now they've released another promotional video for us to appreciate, this one filled with on-set footage of the what else...

... but the gratuitously bare-assed variety. This movie seems super! I mean, I guess it's a movie? I suppose there is some movie strung together between these scenes. But I'm not too worried about that. I know my priorities, and they have so far been fulfilled as far as this movie is concerned. German Oscars for everybody! Hit the jump for a few more gifs...

Good Morning, World

.
.
Once again I must reiterate I love the German frat-boy love
affair between Matthias Schweighöfer & Florian David Fitz.
See lots more of them right here. Happy bday, Florian!

Good Morning, World

.
Two weeks back I shared with you the trailer for the German film 100 Dinge (aka 100 Things), which appears to be nothing but one long "Matthias Schweighöfer and Florian David Fitz are naked" joke - my kinda humor, although it's not really laughter that's got me vibrating. Anyway the other day they released the poster for the movie which... well as you can see, continues the tradition. I think I'm moving to Germany, you guys...

Good Morning, World

.
Way back in February I shared a photograph of the German actors slash exhibitionists Florian David Fitz and Matthias Schweighöfer...

... showing off their luxurious communal goods on the set of their latest bad-boy goof called 100 Dinge (aka 100 Things) - well the film's out in December in Germany and they just dropped the trailer and holy hell it's basically being sold on the strength of their butt-cheeks alone. And those are some strong butt-cheeks.

The thing is two trailers were released - as seen above a censored one that's on YouTube (which I'll share below) and then an uncensored one on Facebook (thanks Tony) - the only problem is the FB one is square cropped and so shots like above become...

... as you can see, both of these releases have their plusses and their minuses. But I will not complain! I'm just glad we live in an international world now so I even know Florian David Fitz and Matthias Schweighöfer are making these movies in the first place since it'll probably never get a release here in the US, unfortunately. Here's the trailer:

And for now we'll make due,

Take Me Deep, Matthias Schoenaerts

After Far From the Madding Crowd it should be the precise opposite of surprising that I would watch the trailer for director Thomas Vinterberg's new film and think, "My god, how beautiful it looks," and yet I have to admit that my first thought was surprise upon watching this here first trailer for Kursk, Vinterberg's upcoming real-life submarine drama starring Matthias Schoenaerts and Colin Firth and Léa Seydoux. This trailer...

... is crammed full of stunning images.

Look no further than the whole "submarine drama" thing for where my skepticism must've come from - movies set on subs are always dreary cramped business, dark blue and full of anonymous pipes leading in circles. Kursk does have plenty of that but seems to open it up an awful lot, with color and light, judging off this footage.

All that plus Matty attacking a dude in the shower?

What's not to love?
.
.
We posted the first couple of pictures from Kursk a couple of weeks back - click here for those. (And if you missed our big post on Matthias himself yesterday click here for that.) The movie is playing Toronto next week I believe, and is out in France in November, but we haven't got a US release date just yet - hence the French subtitles on this trailer. I imagine we'll get a US trailer once that's all sorted out. I will keep you informed!

Deep Dive Matthias

.
Because I refuse to allow myself to pay too much attention to the Toronto Film Festival's slate out of spite and bitterness I usually end up missing a lot of news with regards to just what is premiering there and might in turn be Coming Soon To A Theater Near Me - alas, my rage knows no bounds. Point being I missed the news that Kursk, Thomas Vinterberg's submarine drama starring Matthias Schoenaerts and Colin Firth and Léa Seydoux (not to mention frequent nudist Matthias Schweighöfer), is premiering there, and we've got two pictures from the film to boot! No word on a proper release date yet but I'll try to keep my eyes on that, although if my bitterness gets in the way again there's no telling. I'll do it for you, Matthias Schoenaerts in uniform!

The last time that Matthias teamed up with Thomas Vinterberg we got the terrific remake of Far From the Madding Crowd, which was a loving ode to "staring at Matthias Schoenaerts in clothes" so I'm pretty pumped. Of course the last time that Matthias teamed up with Seydoux we got The Racer and the Jailbird, a movie that basically vanished, so we'll see. In related news Matty's Rust and Bone director Jacques Audiard's retrospective at MoMA starts this weekend and I'm pretty pumped about that too...

Good Morning, World

.
Don't ask ME to look up how many times they've worked together in the past, it's too early for that, but two of our favorite Deutscher Twunks are reuniting for a new movie -- Matthias Schweighöfer posted this shot on his Instagram (click to embiggen; thanks Tony!) with Florian David Fitz this morning on the set of 100 Things, which... is something, I guess. It doesn't have a page on IMDb. This is why I said don't ask me to look up how many times they've worked together before - IMDB gets confusing for foreign movies. Anyway among the many gratuitous posts I have done on these two actors over the years - see here for Matthias and click here for Florian - we've posted many a picture of them together so my assumption is they're Germany's much sexier answer to Seth Rogen & James Franco. Lots of dumb-seeming broad comedies together. We look forward to more! Here's a bonus shot of Florian from his Insta:

Which is Hotter?

.
Today is the 35th birthday of the German actor Matthias Schweighöfer, who's previously had several posts here at MNPP devoted to his most adorable pastiness - click here to caress with your eyeballs all his milky sweetness. Anyway back in 2008 he starred in a movie about the Red Baron, as the Red Baron, called, wait for it, The Red Baron - has anyone seen it? It co-starred Joseph Fiennes and Til Schweiger and Lena Headey and I like all of those people so maybe I should see it?

(It's available on Amazon Prime to watch, by the way.) At first I was tempted to ask you guys which one of those two in that picture just above is hotter, him or Til, but the thought of having to choose myself hurt my brain, so instead we'll ask something much easier and prioritize our sanity just this once...

Michael Shannon's Golden Boys

.
That handsome chap there is the German actor-director Matthias Schweighöfer, who we've devoted several previous gratuitous posts to here at the blog even though we've never really seen him in anything, because duh. That's not entirely true, he was apparently in Valkyrie (because Bryan Singer duh), but otherwise he's only been in German movies that don't make it over here to the US. But he's well-known there anyway! Because duh.

And it looks like he's aiming for the US again - he's signed up to co-star in a movie called The Price alongside Michael Shannon and Noomi Rapace. It's about, and I quote, "a frantic mother of a kidnapped child who realizes that her ex-partner is the instigator and must deal with the fallout when he is double-crossed." The woman directing it seems relatively new, although she did make a movie with Martha Plimpton in 2006, which speaks well of her.

At the same link above it says Michael Shannon's also about to make a movie called State Like Sleep, opposite Rebecca Hall and Ben Foster (another golden-hued thing), which is about "Katherine, who struggles to find the truth about her celebrity husband's double life after he commits suicide." Clearly that equals "Michael Shannon and Ben Foster were lovers," right?
.
