Happy Strangers Holiday

Since All of Us Strangers is finally hitting theaters tomorrow (look for theaters and dates here) and I'm heading off for the holidays (MNPP will be closed up until January 2nd... although pay attention to my socials cuz I do have some other stuff dropping) so who knows when I will get around to officially posting anything like a Top 10 here, I'm just gonna come right out and spoil that (not that this will surprise anybody who's been paying attention) -- Andrew Haigh's All of Us Strangers is my favorite movie of 2023. You're number one, baby! Here's my review from September -- I've seen a lot of other movies since then, a lot of fantastic other movies, but nothing's come along to move this gorgeous sad thing from that top spot.  So go watch my boys (and girl) break your heart the minute you can, is my point! And come back here to tell me your thoughts -- leave comments on anything you see. I love to hear from my babies! And I'll see y'all in 2024 with plenty more nonsense...

Quote of the Day

I don't know how I've never seen this old photo of Russell Tovey before, but I am now living for this picture and this picture alone. Amazing. Anyway our favorite pair of ears gave a new interview to W Magazine this week that's about his new art documentary but they get into his gay awakenings and it made me realize me and Russ are pretty close in age because we had basically the exact same ones!

"I saw a movie called Beautiful Thing when I was 15. I was living at home with my parents and it was on Channel 4. It was about two young lads on a housing estate who fell in love. I was watching it, my mom was upstairs and told me to go to bed, and I turned the TV off. She went to bed and I put it back on mute and I was like, “That's me. That's who I am.” It made such a difference.

Then when Queer as Folk came on in the UK, it terrified me. I remember the first episode, there was a rimming scene. I was like, “What the fuck is going on?” I had no idea what that was. It was terrifying, but so “wow!” The show felt like a light shining. I'm going to look at that light. I'm going to head towards there because that seems like a safe ground and it's going to explain all the things that are going on in me."

Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

 ... you can learn from:

Eraserhead (1977)

Mr. X: Mary usually does the carving but tonight since you
are our guest, you could do it, Henry. All right with you?
Henry: Of course. I'd be happy to. So I just,
uh... I just cut them up like regular chickens?
Mr. X: Sure, just cut them up like regular chickens.

The great Jack Nance would've turned 80 today.

Matt's the Maestro

Now that Bradley Cooper's terrible biopic of Leonard Bernstein Maestro has dropped onto Netflix it's time to revisit my review of the movie that originally dropped back when the movie played briefly in theaters -- if you missed it read it here. I uhhhhhh am not a fan.

"Maestro is a movie about acting, not music—it’s a movie about Bradley Cooper acting, specifically. Or less a movie than an excuse."

That said there are worse ways to spend two hours of one's life -- the movie is gorgeously lensed and Carey Mulligan is solid and Matt Bomer momentarily shows his butt. Bomer doesn't have much else to do but given how uninterested in Bernstein's gay experiences the movie is except to make Mulligan cry we'll take some butt. And also these nice photos of Matty in the NYT -- you can read the chat with him here. It's a nice one. And now over the holidays I pinky-swear I will fiiiiiinally watch Fellow Travelers...

I Thought He'd Be Bigger

I'm actually really glad we got all of those photos of Jake shooting his Road House re-do at a real MMA fight last year (see them here) because it gave us enough advanced warning that this would be one of his shaved body roles -- I have already mourned his beautiful chest hair, and moved on, and now I can look at these...

... our first images from the thing with clearer, happier eyes. It's not a lot to see but Amazon Prime has released a clip-reel to highlight what they've got coming out next year and there are a few seconds of Road House (which Go director Doug Liman director directed, don't forget!) to see in there alongside... whatever, I don't know, I fast-forwarded to the Road House part. Watch:

Earlier this week we got a date for Road House which I tweeted but forget to post proper about -- it's hitting Prime on March 21st. I read somewhere else that Liman & Gyllenhaal tried to convince the stupid studio people to give the thing a theatrical release and they said no, so I think this'll be it. Guess we'll see what happens...

Good Morning, World

Being quite lazy this morning since it's my last work day before the holiday break and just posting this new photoshoot of actor Callum Turner for VMan magazine (via), even though there's nothing morning coded to be seen -- oh well. We put on clothes in the morning and he's wearing clothes! Far, far, far too many clothes if you ask me, but I suppose that give sme an opening to link back to my first "Good Morning, Gratuitous Callum Turner" post or to my second "Good Morning, Gratuitous Callum Turner" post, since I've done plenty of Callum Turner posts in the past. Indeed just check the Callum Turner archives -- they're fit to burst. Anyway Callum's rowing movie The Boys in the Boat is out this holiday weekend and I'll have things to say on that soon enough so stay tuned. For now, let's just stare at a too-clothed Callum after the jump...

Logan's Run (1976)

Jessica: I didn't think it would be like this.
It hurts. I hate outside! I hate it! I hate it!

Happy 71 to actress Jenny Agutter, who speaks my favorite line in all of Logan's Run -- hell right this minute it's my favorite line in anything, ever. I crumple into laughter every time I see the movie and she strarts shrieking this like a spoiled child because I can so relate. Soooo relate. Anyway did you know she's still acting today? Not only that -- she's in the MCU! She played a politician in both The Avengers and Winter Soldier. Who knew? I had no idea this was her:

What movie is this?

Good Morning, World

You'd think I'd have realized earlier in this awards season that we'd need to go ahead and add a Charles Melton tag here to the site -- probably right around the time I saw May December on Opening Night of the NYFF and fell in love with it (my review) or perhaps when I wrote my second full-length piece on the movie (read that here)? Obviously Mr. Melton is  having a moment and I've posted about him plenty -- why I just got around to giving him his bery own MNPP Star Of Fame I can't answer. Anyway here he is on i-D magazine looking, you know, like his hot self. Read his chat here, if you feel so inclined. And hit the jump for the rest of the photos...

Two Perfect Strangers

Blessings be unto us all today -- Flaunt magazine has put All of Us Strangers co-stars Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal together for a cover-shoot and a chat, with Saoirse Ronan even! Read that here -- it's a long one and I am only halfway through it but I figured I best come post these photos before everyone on Earth has already beheld them.

The movie is out in a few theaters this Friday (see release info here) and then slowly rolling out from there -- here's my review. But you've probably read that already since I've been psuhing it for months -- what we're here for are these piping hot new pictures! Hit the jump for the full load...

Barry Keoghan Three Times

These are via the L.A. Times where there's also a chat with Barry -- no doubt about Saltburn but I haven't read it. Let me know if he says something particularly salacious, like him and Jacob Elordi practiced the cum-slurping scene on their downtime -- meanwhile I've got a doctor's appointment and I'll be back in a couple of hours. Use the time to stare at the above photos or use your time being jealous of me that I now own one of those plastic Saltburn bathtub merch pieces that were handed out at early screenings -- whatever you decide works best for you.

Bleeding So Good

Yesterday I shared the first poster with you for Love Lies Bleeding, the new movie from Saint Maud director Rose Glass starring Kristen Stewart, saying that all of the words together that I used to describe it were like poetry -- well today as promised the trailer has arrived and it's even more poetry. Seriously. All the hairs on my arms are pointing to the sky this looks so good. From the use of "Smalltown Boy" as its soundtrack to that gorgeous shot seen above that accompanies the film's title at trailer's end this thing has got me hooked and lined and sinkered and then some. I'm (hopefully) seeing it at Sundance in a few weeks and it's my number one! Gimme gimme gimme! The rest of you don't have to wait too long though, as its out in theaters on March 8th. Watch:

Good Morning, Morgan Spector Again

As if those stupid sexy photos that Morgan Spector shared with us yesterday (you remember, the short shorts ones) weren't enough, there was a second stupid sexy shoot! A second shoot all in one day! This one for Numero Netherlands magazine (via). But I decided to hold it until this morning so we could marginally recover. I know, I know -- this will ruin a consecutive day with horniness, but don't shoot the messenger. Hit the jump for all of the photos...

Buff Love Cometh

I guess everybody is trying to get all their shit done and dropped before the holiday -- I know the feeling, I have a pile of shit to do that's not blogging! -- because the post-worthy stuff has been landing like fire-bombs this morning. The latest is the first poster for Love Lies Bleeding, which is my most anticipated movie screening at Sundance next month -- why is a movie with a poster showing a buff lady on it my most anticipated movie? Because it's the second feature film from director Rose Glass, who gave us the modern horror masterpiece Saint Maud back in 2019, that's why. And also it's a lesbian bodybuilder revenge movie that stars Kristen Stewart and Jena Malone, among others -- all of those words together, they're like poetry! Anyway A24 says we're getting a trailer tomorrow so stay tuned. Cannot wait on this one.

Willem's Hunting Them Vampires Yo

That's our first look at Willem Dafoe as the vampire hunter in Robert Eggers' Nosferatu (via), and if that image doesn't make every hair on your body stand on end and salute attention then you're a corpse and Willem needs to be hunting you. The partnership between Willem and Eggers has been one of our greats in the past decade with the actor's turns in both The Lighthouse and his smaller but no less psychotic one in The Northman...

... and thinking about what they've got up their sleeves here for "Professor Albin Eberhart Von Franz" is killing me, it's killing me that we have to wait until next Christmas! Anyway I was talking with the boyfriend over the weekend about Poor Things (which he finally saw for the first time) and the aubject of Willem's age came up -- Willem Dafoe is 68 y'all. We gotta get Willem Dafoe his goddamned Oscar already. All hands on deck -- let's steer this thing in already.

Morgan Spector Thirteen Times

I am starting to think that Morgan Spector has been sent to Earth specifically to torment me. How else to explain the way the obscene way that they tailored his suit on last night's The Gilded Age finale? (Click here for gifs.)  Or how else to explain this new photoshoot for The Laterals magazine?

Not that this is new territory -- we've been slobbering all over him for years now as our extensive archives indicate. Since he played gay (and had an incredibly hot gay sex scene) in the 2017 movie Permission specifically -- that was when I posted my great big "Gratuitous Morgan Spector" post (and if you click any link today, click that one, you will be surprised and not disappointed) and...

... that was when this all began. Anyway I am happy that The Gilded Age is finally allowing us to see the body that our favorite robber baron has hidden under those suits -- anachronistic obviously but who cares, it's 2023 and Mr. Rebecca Hall looks like this! Show it off! And speaking of hit the jump for the rest of this photoshoot...
