--- Luke Junior - Even though he is by all accounts a dick that everybody on set ends up hating, Alex Pettyfer is still getting work... and I don't know that I can dispute it thanks to
this moment captured on film right here. Unfortunately I don't for-see
his next rumored job joining the new
Star Wars movies as giving him much opportunity for mooning, so I can't possibly be excited about this one. He'd play Luke's son, and I guess I can see it.
--- Snow Job - Because he doesn't really have a choice if he wants the movie starring all these American stars to come out in America, director Bong Joon-ho is
telling us to calm down about the edits the Weinsteins are forcing him to make on his flick
Snowpiercer. Thanks but no thanks - I will continue to whine.
--- Foreign Bodies - The New York Times
chats with the actor Daniel Bruhl about his upcoming accents in
Rush and
The Fifth Estate, and they make an interesting point about the internationality of the awards season for the past couple of years. (thanks Mac)
--- Blood Decade - There are more than several films on
Logo's list of the top 40 horror movies of the 1980s that I have never seen, and so fixing that's my new top priority. I've wanted to see
Blood Beach
for years and years, that poster (seen to the left) left a distinct
impression upon youthful me, but the last time I checked it was totally
unavailable. I will have to check again! (thanks Mac)
--- Rise Maker - While I patiently (ha) sit on my hands and twiddle my thumbs (yeah, both at the same time, and it's awesome) waiting for Ben Wheatley's
A Field in England to get even a release date here in the US, he's off
planning his next two movies - he's adapting JG Ballard's book
High Rise, which is about people in a (you guessed it) high rise building who go all
Lord of the Flies. And he's also still making
Freakshift - think
Men in Black with monsters instead of aliens, which only in the wake of
RIPD sounds problematic - which we'd
heard about before.
--- Be Butch - Yesterday's edition of The Film Experience's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" series took on
Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid, you can see Nat's choice
here along with links to everybody else's
here. I've never been that big a fan of that movie, but if I'd participated I would've picked a shot of Paul newman, natch.
--- Flop Sweat - This list of
the "qualified" biggest hits of the Summer Movie Season by Joe Reid over at Tribeca had me cracking up. The number one live-action non-sequel period adventure film of the Summer as defined by the lunar calendar - brilliant.
--- Saul Spin Off - Our friend Sean T. Collins continued checking off the cast of
Breaking Bad and making us supremely jealous in the process by
interviewing Bob Odenkirk for Rolling Stone about his character of slimy lawyer Saul Goodman.
