Chang Chen Four Times

It was only a matter of time before I zeroed in on the dreamboat Chang Chen's presence in the just-dropped Dune trailer and that matter of time was... about an hour? Not even since I included a gif of him in my post about the trailer. But still, I feel as if the Chinese legend slash future Timmy Doctor deserves his own little moment in the sun, and what better than these shots of him looking a thousand degrees of adorable wearing a suit with a bow-tie whilst riding a bicycle? Living the dream, these photos. Hit the jump for a couple more...

Chang Chen Six Times

Was Chang Chen at the Oscars? I didn't see if the long beloved actor, who most recently played Dr. Yueh in Dune, was there or not -- would have been nice to see him and Timmy comparing collar bones or whatever. Oh well at least we have this new photo-shoot (via) to fill in that hole for today. Hit the jump to have your hole filled...

Which is Hotter?

.
If I hadn't used this week's edition of "Beauty vs Beast" for The Grifters' 25th anniversary I probably would've used it to pit Michelle Yeoh against Ziyi Zhang in Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon because that film is turning 15 today. Yes, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is fifteen years old - despair upon your spent youth. Anyway with that option gone let's instead focus upon another aspect, like say how fucking gorgeous Chang Chen is. I considered pitting him against the other romantic male lead in the film but Chow Yun-Fat hasn't done anything to make me hate him so I won't do that to him. Instead it's Chang against Chang!

Timmy's Ready For His Check-up

.
Another day, another awesome addition to Denis Villenueve's Dune re-do -- this time around it's Chang Chen (who you should recognize from several things but who you definitely recognize from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) who's probably going to play the role of Dr. Yeuh, the Atreides family physician. Meaning he's going to be giving Timmy check-ups, cough cough... This role was memorably played by Dean Stockwell in David Lynch's film version. Oh man... that was yellow-face wasn't it? Well phew, glad they're not going that route then. See more of Chang here. And in related news The Playlist is reporting the film has officially begun filming as of today!

Chen Chang Seven Times

.
About six weeks ago we told you that Crouching Tiger beauty Chen Chang had been cast in Denis Villenueve's Dune -- there's no update on that besides, "Hey that's presumably still the case!" Although it is known that Timmy's in Budapest right now filming the thing (this link right here seems like a good Twitter account to follow to keep up with all the Dune news). But Chen did do a new photo-shoot for GQ China, so here's that! After the jump, I mean...

6 Off My Head - Legends of the Fall Fest Season

.
The New York Film Festival has announced its Main Slate today, and while this isn't everything they'll be showing -- they will still announce the smaller docs and so forth -- it is EVERYTHING, if you catch my drift. You can read the whole list over at The Playlist, but I figured I'd focus in on the five... no make that six movies that are making this everything so much of my everything everything.

Carol by Todd Haynes -- Yeah, duh. I've only been posting about wanting to see this movie since 2006 when I first read Patricia Highsmith's book The Price of Salt -- in fact I said in that 2006 post that the character of Carol should be played by Cate Blanchett, a full six years before Cate Blanchett singed on to play the part of Carol. CLEARLY this happened because of me. You are all welcome!

Bridge of Spies by Steven Spielberg -- I really wasn't all that bowled over by the trailer for this movie and I'm not the world's biggest fan of Tom Hanks or spy movies in general, so why do I care? I care because I have spent YEARS of my life waiting to be in a room with Steven Spielberg and I somehow MISSED him when he presented Lincoln at NYFF a couple of years ago and this is my chance and I will not mess it up this time dammit! He and I will ride on the backs of velociraptors into the sunset!

The Lobster by Yorgos Lanthimos -- Yanthimos' two previous films Dogtooth and Alps both made my favorite movie lists for their respective years, and this time's he's speaking English and putting Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz in front of me in a nonsense story about people being transformed into animals - what, you think I'm rubber? I am glue and The Lobster is stuck to me, yo.

The Assassin by Hou Hsiao-hsien -- The only movie of Hou's that I have seen is Flight of the Red Balloon (the power of La Binoche compels me) and I know I've got to right that, so why not start with this rapturously received wuxia starring the rapturously gorgeous Chang Chen?

Steve Jobs by Danny Boyle -- Honestly I could give a shit about Steve Jobs as a person, and Aaron Sorkin gives me hives, but the trailer was really exciting and... well. You know. Fassy. FASSSSSSSSSSSY. And if Kate Winslet shows up on the red carpet and stands in front of me I promise you I will poop my pants. I promise it. (Sorry, Kate.) (Sorry, everybody else.)

Microbe & Gasoline by Michel Gondry -- It's been a rough couple of years for me and my Gondry adoration (I was nearly done in by getting stuck on that bus with those insufferable brats in The We and the I) but I hold out hope, every time, I can't help it - this man made Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, people. Show some goddamned respect.

Good Morning, World

.
A happy 43rd birthday to Crouching Tiger and Happy Together actor Chen Chang, who'll be turning up in Denis Villenueve's Dune film with our boy Timothée next year -- Dune will be a 2020 film right? You never know with these special-effects heavy films. Anyway we told you about Chen's casting at this link -- he's playing Timmy's doctor. And you can see more of him at this lick. Ha I mean "link" but I'm leaving that type. Morning!

Quote of the Day

.
"I met Timothée and we both agreed spontaneously that we would work together. It was not difficult to convince Timothée... I chose Timothée for several reasons. First of all, he is a phenomenal actor. He is someone that has a lot of depth, someone that is very mature for his age because Paul Atreides is an old soul in a young body, and Timothée has that. […] Also, he has features that remind me of old school Hollywood stars. He’s a real movie star. He has that insane charisma. Insane charisma. You put Timothée in front of a camera and it’s just an explosion.”

-- That's director Denis Villeneuve talking about casting Timmy in his new Dune movie via Collider (thx Mac), where they've also got quotes from him on why he chose Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, and Josh Brolin for their respective roles. I mean all that's swell and true and all but it's an awful lot of words when "I wanted to be surrounded by all this hot man ass" would've sufficed. Or maybe I'm projecting? Anyway that would be my reason for putting Timothée Chalamet, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin and Jason Momoa (not to mention Dave Bautista and Javier Bardem and Chen Chang) in my movie, and it's as good a reason as most. Better even!

"Would you look at that body language? Legs crossed towards each other. That is an unequivocal sex invite."

Aaaaanyway in related news did y'all see the photos that Jason Momoa posted on Instagram being a dirty muddy piggy-bottom? I feel as if I should share them (even if my description of them might be admittedly a bit much) so I will after the jump...
