Did you know that the author Roald Dahl -- who was born on this day in the year 1916 -- co-wrote the screenplay for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, adapting the book by James Bond author Ian Fleming? I actually don't think that I previous to today knew any of this, which is probably why I have never seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I know, I know! But at this point it feels like one of those movies I needed to see as a kid or I won't get the appeal. Am I wrong? Vote in this poll and tell me if I'm wrong or not:

I saw it recently as an adult and while it was entertaining, I wondered how a movie that was so long kept me entertained as a child...
It's a movie for adults, I'd say. The childcatcher terrified kids. And only adults are likely to fully appreciate how bizarre that film is. If you've never read the lengthy piece on it from Tom + Lorenzo, you should. It's hilarious.
I've never seen the movie, but I've seen an all-girls middle-school production of the play, which might be the ultimate Chitty Chitty Bang Bang experience. If you've got any nieces who might star in such a thing, you might hold off on the movie. (Btw the girls absolutely loved the Tom + Lorenzo piece.)
It has some great set pieces but yeah, very long.
The Sherman brothers' best score. Gert Frobe and Anna Quayle singing their baby talk love duet is too precious.
Except for the eponymous automobile the film bears no relation to the novel. Different time period, different characters and entirely new plot.
