Pic of the Day

.
Matthias Schoenaerts posted this picture of himself with Robert De Niro here in NYC earlier today, but he was super vague about why they were hanging out, saying "More News Later" (actually this being Instagram he said #morenewslater because obviously) -- if I had to guess though (and I don't but I do) I would guess that Schoenaerts might be about to sign up to co-star in Martin Scorsese's next movie The Irishman, which is set to begin filming here in New York very shortly, I do believe. That'd be something great! Hashtag Dream Coming True! (Yes he also said that.)

The already-announced cast for The Irishman reads like a Who's Who of New York Cinema - De Niro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci is famously coming out of retirement for it, and Harvey Keitel, and for the slightly younger crowd there's Bobby Cannavale & Ray Romano (if I only knew Romano from his show I'd cringe at including him here among these folks but he was very very good in The Big Sick so I'm feeling generous).

The movie is an adaptation of Charles Brand's book I Heard You Paint Houses, which claims to share the death-bed confession of the hit-man Frank ‘The Irishman” Sheeran, who said he killed Jimmy Hoffa. I guess there's been controversy about the truth of his tale, but it still sounds like a pretty great story and with a cast like this teaming up with Marty, well, if you've got a movie coming out next year that is not The Irishman you should probably not be thinking about winning any Oscars. (Well unless you're making a movie with roles for women because this one doesn't look like it will have much room for those, shocker.)
