Baby Crazy

.
I've got a habit of making pregnant friends of mine sit through Rosemary's Baby so this stunt tickles me especially - the upcoming pregnancy horror flick Prevenge, about a woman whose unborn fetus infects her with sweet dreams of serial killing, is doing an early screening here in NYC this upcoming Monday night... and pregnant women can go for free! It's at the IFC Center and you can find that info right here - writer-director Alice Lowe (who directed the film while she herself was pregnant!) will be there at the screening too. Lowe you might recognize - she co-starred in Ben Wheatley's fun flick Sightseers. Anyway if you're not in NYC Prevenge is out on March 24th on Shudder - you can make it a double-feature with The Devils! Here's the trailer:

I've been reading a lot of reviews of this film, and none of them seem to mind the fact that the plot seems lifted, not so much from Rosemary's Baby, or Possession, but rather from a not so well-known, kind-of-awesome gore comedy called Baby Blood. It's about a girl who gets pregnant by some sort of lovecraftian evil creature from the deep. Then, the embryon forces the pregnant woman to start killing people and feed him with their blood. It's a late 80s french film and it has all the things that I love from that particular period-the insane camera movements, the saturated colors, the near madness performances. It's been real unfair that no one seems to remember it, and that pretty much a lift up it's been getting such raves. Maybe Prevenge is a masterpiece, i haven't seen it yet, but peoples, we got to give Baby Blood its due. Of blood, duh.

Good catch, anon! I have wanted to see Baby Blood for a long time but the copy I have I tried to watch and the quality was shit or it didn't have subtitles maybe, I can't remember which, but that's kept me from watching it. But I have heard of BB before and you're inspired me to seek it out again, so thanks!

"Unborn fetus". I love the language you libs invent to dehumanize humans. It's a baby. And life begins at conception, science-denier.

Didn't Kraftwerk have an album titled DEHUMANIZE HUMANS? I love that jam!
