It's All Strange and Frightnin'

.
I posted a slightly (very slightly) cropped version of that picture of Jake a few weeks ago along with the rest of its corresponding photoshoot, but since a better copy with a hint more knee just showed up (via) I'll share that to go along with this story since we do love a good knee -- a new movie musical version of Little Shop of Horrors is being made! Greg Berlanti, the TV mastermind behind so very much of the gay-adjacent beefcake that we get on our small screens these days (The Flash and Arrow and now Archie's abs), is going to direct the thing, apparently - the last time he directed anything it starred Josh Duhamel in his underwear

I posted a picture of Jake above because of course he did the musical on stage last year alongside its original supernova of a star Ellen Greene, which made me cry so so much when i saw it - but I have my doubts that Jake will do the movie, just as I doubt they'll cast Ellen Greene in the role that is entirely hers forever, and so similarly I have my doubts that Little Shop can be a success. I honestly cannot fathom anyone that is not Ellen Greene in the role of Audrey. Good luck, whoever tries! You'll need it!

Little Shop of Horrors does not need a remake!

I saw the play and wasn't impressed at all, least of with horse-face Jake. Remake? Thanks but no thanks!

I would assume Jake IS attached. I would think this whole remake is happening because of his stage performance with Ellen and that he would want to do it, and if he wants to do it, why would they get someone else?

Pretty much the only Audrey I'd accept apart from Ellen Greene is Annaleigh Ashford. Plus, she worked with Jake in Sunday in the Park with George so at least they'd get along.

Good grief Row-bin why'd you have to go and make an AWESOME suggestion??? I would love to see Annaleigh Ashford take on the role.

And since you mention AA that means another possibility is Nina Arianda, because I constantly get the two of them switched up in my mind.

As for Jake being attached my assumption was that the popularity of the stage performances lit the fuse on this but GB seems like someone who'd go in a different (read: younger) direction to me. But I could clearly be wrong!

I also have problems with all of the hot male actors whose names I keep seeing bandied about this morning for the movie - Jake pulled off Seymour's nebbishness pretty well on stage where he was far away from me, but I don't know if I'd buy him in a movie where I could see the outline of his guns bulging through his nerd shirts. I know that Rick Moranis gets shit for not being the most capable singer but I don't know if I can picture anybody but a "Rick Moranis type" in the role of Seymour.

In my head, I always imagined Kristen Bell as Audrey and Conrad Ricamora (Oliver from HTGAWM) as Seymour myself.

With Berlanti involved it wouldn't shock me if this is his play to make Grant Gustin and Melissa Benoist into movie stars. But the Annaleigh Ashford casting is spot on so I hope I'm wrong.
