Not seeing Fantastic Beasts until tomorrow but I keep hearing that there's a, you know, VIBE between Colin Farrell and Ezra Miller in the movie. So I'm looking forward to that! Anyway you can use this post's comments to report your thoughts on that film (since I assume many of you will be seeing it)...
... or any of the other wonderful movies out, of which there are very very many! This weekend is flooded with riches - you can see Nocturnal Animals (which I just reviewed yesterday) or Manchester by the Sea (which I reviewed at the New York Film Festival) or The Eyes of my Mother (which I reviewed earlier today). Or if you haven't gotten to them yet you can see Loving (here's my review) or Arrival (here's my review) or Elle (here's my review) or The Handmaiden (here's my review) - the list is very long and every single one of these movies is worth seeing. Honestly I really do stand by this tweet...

It's a little slow to start, but once it gets going it really involves you. The one thing that really bothered me is that Eddie Redmayne always seems to be shot on the left side of his face, as if he were Claudette Colbert or Barbra Streisand. It always seems to be tucked into his shoulder as well. It's more of the same, what he did in The Theory of Everything and The Danish Girl (he gave better performances in those movies).
He also has more emotion for his fantastic creatures than he has for his love interest. On the other hand, there are some very good performances from others in the cast, and some surprises you have to watch for. I did enjoy it a lot, and need to see it again, because there are little things you miss because you're looking elsewhere. Smart script and creativity involved here.
Compared to the rest of the film, yes the beginning is slow, but I was happy about that. Starts with an ominous happening somewhere in Europe and then a montage of newspapers that prep audiences for detail-oriented viewing. Definitely felt the vibe haha
Great performances by all cast members, suspension of disbelief is needed sometimes when things don't seem to make absolute sense. There's enough in there to make you laugh and tear-up and an ominous unease balanced with comfortable-familiar tropes (but played out by unorthodox protagonists). The HP universe gets a good dose of "mature" magic in this film and the effects are more complex than previously seen. Of course there are also a wonderful menagerie of new magical creatures and also some non-magical creatures. Self-contained plot to begin an expansive exploration of the world of HP before HP.

Saw it. There is a legit vibe for sure! Don't want to spoil anything but I think JK made that vibe absolutely intentional...
