Patrick Wilson The Other White Meat

.
I can't remember what the original cast of Bone Tomahawk looked like but it was a cast (I think maybe Timothy Olyphant had the lead for a hot sexy minute?) and a concept (cowboys versus cannibals) that immediately grabbed me. Well now that it's actually been made it stars Kurt Russell, Richard Jenkins, Patrick Wilson, Matthew Fox, and David Arquette, and while it's Wilson of that bunch that's my favorite it's actually David Arquette that's grabbing my attention because that seems a clear call-back to the great 1999 Antonia Bird film Ravenous, which starred Robert Carlyle and Guy Pearce and... David Arquette.

Ravenous is very clearly on Bone Tomahawk's mind, judging by the first trailer, which you can watch over here. (I can't figure out how to embed it yet; once I can, I will.) It looks fun! And listen, there are far far worse things to be influenced by than Ravenous, which has remained such a singular accomplish for sixteen straight years I can't believe it's taken this long for somebody to rip it off. (The underrated 2004 Civil War movie Dead Birds comes to mind.)

Bone Tomahawk (I really love that title) just played Fantastic Fest in Austin and I think it got good notices (I only saw a couple tweets) -- it's getting dropped on VOD at the end of this month so thankfully we don't have long to wait to know for ourselves.
