Good Morning, Hotel

.
Well American Horror Story: Hotel premiered last night -- what did we think? I found all of the Matt Bomer nudity perfectly agreeable! Naturally we'll be sharing all of that here. But what of the rest? I think there is the possibility for entertainment - I am intrigued by the characters and the place.

But I don't know if I was really "entertained" by last night's premiere in itself. I was surprised by what an influence Seven appears to have been on the season; less so by all of the references to The Shining and The Hunger. A lot of the actual violence (rape by silver unicorn dildo, for instance) felt crammed in. (Sorry, I had to.) It was best when it was soaking us in the atmosphere of the place.

MVP, even besides all of the bare ass, was probably Bomer, because somebody's been taking strutting lessons (probably from Denis O'Hare) and I found his newly liberated looseness refreshing. Wes Bentley was good too - I look forward to him being dragged into the sexy sexy muck. Anyway before it gets too bright outside tell me what y'all thought and let's hit the jump for the pics...

My satellite signal went out for ten minutes during this. Argh!

I was a little disappointed that we didn't get to see Angela Bassett, Evan Peters or Finn Wittrock in the premiere but this season certainly looks intriguing even if there's very little if anything that's original. Everything is cribbed from other movies. I look forward to finding out how Sarah Paulson and Matt Bomer became apparently immortal after both dying in the flashback. Ryan Murphy said he'd never do vampires but of course that means nothing. I just hope Chloe Sevigny isn't stuck with a boring wife role and that she gets to get involved in the fucked-up-edness.

When one of the foreign women goes down the hallway for ice, there was someone other than the maid standing outside a room. It was very quick but it looked like Twisty the Clown. Anyone spot that? Or were my eyes playing games with me?

Matt was the only standout for me (for obvious reasons). I'm not really anticipating a great season overall solely based on the premiere. I mean, it's bad enough they lost Jessica Lange, but no Frances Conroy?? Hmm. There needs to be some HEAVY Matt Bomer on Cheyenne Jackson, Wes Bentley, Finn Wittrock, Max Greenfield, or Evan Peters to make up for that loss. Hell, I'll even accept him on Denis O'Hare!

It was fine. I'm always excited about a new season (shame on me) but my expectations weren't very high. I liked the Swedish girls, probably mostly because I'm Swedish so it's always fun to watch and listen to some Swedes on American television. However, not one of the regular characters drew me in one bit or even peaked my interest very much at all. They were all "Ok", and I always love me some gore and sex and eye-candy, but there was no Harmon family or a Constance. No Sister Mary Eunice-Satan, Myrtle Snow, Dandy and Gloria Mott, no Lana Winters or Madame LaLurie or Amazon Eve. No one that made me go: Ah, yes, I am watching characters! Fun, interesting characters!

Gaga was fine as a vampire, I guess? Too early to tell, but she certainly didn't suddenly make me a fan. Bentley's cop was boring and while I get that people find him hot he doesn't do much for me for some reason. Boomer, though, is another story, but apart from the sexy sex his character wasn't immediately intriguing or especially fun, surprisingly. Kathy Bates... I don't know, I usually love her but maybe I'm over her? Who knows at this point in AHS time. Mare Winningham's maid seems like a riot, but she was hardly there, but at least she's someone to look forward to. I loved Marcy in season 1 but for some reason there was no oomph to her character in this episode, probably because she mostly got to interact with Cheyenne Jackson who didn't exactly leave a lasting impression. A fabulous drag character is almost always, well, fabulous but Liz Taylor did little for me. I think I'm just blah about Denis O'Hare at this point too.

I'm apprehensive about Evan Peters (yawn) but looking forward to Angela Bassett and Finn Wittrock and Mädchen Amick. According to imdb Frances Conroy is appearing in episode 10 (YAY) but that's a long way of.

There really isn't much to say about the story, seeing as there was none?

Ultimately it comes down to story for me, and while I love the sex and gore, if it's simply just to get viewers and doesn't really serve any purpose other than being laid on thick, I think I might be past continuing to devote time to AHS. I love Bomer, and Bates, and I'll give it a few more tries before I decide that AHS has shot it's wad. I want something called AHS to be scary and not totally campy, or totally sexy, or totally anything, but at least acknowledge there is more to horror than "water cooler" or blog moments to be discussed the next day.

ugh I hated him in this, he was so swishy and camp and the haircut looks fucking horrible on him. I need my Matt Bomer masculine and dapper, not femme and bitchy.

This show sucks, Ryan Murphy can eat shit. Even that shot of Max Greenfield's juicy man ass was ruined cause it ended up getting raped by a drill.

The pictures you've just posted tell as much of the story as the show did. It was fun to watch but I could have had the radio on and enjoyed it just as much. Plot wise, the show was all candy-no meat, on so many levels!

I guess I'm the minority. I felt like the production value was improved, like I was watching a big budget short film, not a TV show. The story is all over the place right now, but I didn't really care. It's pretty to look at, the music makes it exciting, and the nudity is super! I didn't really get the whole point of Max Greenfield's character, other than it was a little shocking to see a dildo monster pounding him in that mirror image; shock value? I kind of felt like this premier was a little more frightening than previous years; maybe because of the realistic feel of the murderer. I loved it and can't wait to watch the rest of it. Loved Gaga as well, but will miss Jessica Lange.

By the way, according to IMDB, Max Greenfield is on the show for five episodes. We already know from the premiere that Matt Bomer and Sarah Paulson's characters both died (him from a drug overdose, her from getting pushed out a window) and somehow came back. Obviously he'll do the same.

Much as I've loved Jessica Lange on the show in seasons past, I have to say I didn't really miss her this time around.

Of course I came here to see all the juicy stills and gifs, and of course this site did not disappoint. I know all the other fags out there just loooove Matt Bomer, but oh boy, ho humm, boooring. He's like every other pretty boy with a perfect body in gay porn, uh, uh, oh, oh, yeah; mmm-k (yawn). Wes Bentley, now THERE'S some filet mignon for ya! Even the "Eric Northman"-esque blond victim was way hotter than Mr. typical hairless twinkiedude. Aneehoo; to date the best season of this show is still without a doubt "Coven", which was fabulous and fun right up until the utterly predictable and -meh- ending, (Less the Stevie Nicks / Seven Wonders bit). I wouldn't even bother mentioning that AWFUL piece of crap last season, except to say that I made it, (forced myself to watch through squinted eyes of constant cringing from the unending predictability and BAD writing), through half of the season before I stopped watching. Some of the above mentioned "nods" to this and that horror film had me worried, and playing "Hotel California" at the end had me cringing again from the mindless predictability; but as also mentioned, the story has me interested enough to keep watching for awhile anyway. No Frances Conroy really sux, but Jessica Lange was right to check out of this franchise after that piece of shit last season. Hoping it stays good and gets better...
