Shake Rattle & Rock

.
Y'all do know I've got a huge hard-on for disaster movies right? You oughta. See here or here for previous illustrations of my genre adoration. So needless to say I am as high as a flying cow about seeing San Andreas this weekend. I haven't even bothered looking at any reviews - reviews quite simply do not matter to me when it comes to disaster movies. I have seen Roland Emmerich's 2012 multiple times - that ought to give you an inkling of how fool-proof I am to actual cinematic decency when these suckers are involved. In fact sometimes I think the dumber the better. But I ask you all....

What's Your Favorite Disaster Movie?

The Day After Tomorrow and The Towering Inferno are up there for me.

If we're being technical about the term disaster, then Titanic is the #1

I think Titanic counts as a disaster movie. If The Poseidon Adventures counts, which it clearly does, then Titanic does as well. ICEBERG STRAIGHT AHEAD.

You'd think my Jake love + my Disaster Movie love would've had me watching The Day After Tomorrow a billion times but I think I've only seen it twice? That's clearly due a re-watch!

Actually I feel like having a marathon.

I love any and all disaster movies as well so I connect with this on a deep level. I also love space and alien movies so if you can combine those I'm sold forever and ever, in to infinity. Naturally my favorites are Independence Day/Deep Impact. Also have a strange soft spot for Volcanoes doing their erupting in absurd places so I may have watched Volcano 94 times as a kid.

I like DEEP IMPACT very much too and A NIGHT TO REMEMBER is my favorite TITANIC pic

The Day After Tomorrow for me--it's so much more better than 2012, with more characters to root for, and a nice bonus sequence of a buff Dennis Quaid in boxers.

2012 had destruction on a much grander scale, but it had really annoying characters (I wanted John Cusack and his irritating family to die) and the whole concept of rich people getting to survive only because they have money totally destroyed the movie for me.

It's a three way tie of The Towering Inferno, The Poseidon Adventure and the original Airport.

I have watched dozens and dozens and still none have ever come close to topping those three granddaddies of the genre. But others that come close: A Night to Remember, the Barbara Stanwyck/Clifton Webb version of Titanic, The Cassandra Crossing, The Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, Zero Hour!, The Rains Came, Rollercoaster, Unstoppable and on and on. I have to admit though you must be more devout than I if you've been able to get through the stinking pile that is 2012 more than once! I barely managed to even make it through that initial time.

I saw 'San Andreas' here in San Diego yesterday, and I loved it. It's my new favorite disaster film. You are going to LOVE it!! It's AWE SOME!!!

As a kid, I loved Dante's Peak SO MUCH when it came out. I think I watched it at least 15 times within its first 3 months of home video release. It's actual garbage as a movie, but lord knows it's still fun. When grandma Ruth gets out and pushes the boat to safety in the acid lake?! Gets me every time.

But now I'd have to say I have quite the soft spot for The Day After Tomorrow, which is just a ton of fun.

I agree, A Night to Remember. Also, The Poseidon Adventure and The Bridge on the River Kwai, which is, yes it is, a disaster movie!

The Bridge on the River Kwai is a war movie, not a disaster movie. If that's a disaster movie, then all war movies must be disaster movies, and what kind of a world would that be?

Disaster movie the best quality-wise: Titanic
Disaster movie the best laugh-wise: The Core

Oh lord it´s easily Airport ´75, a deranged Karen Black flying an airplane - total disaster!

The Core and Dante's Peak
(But deep down in places I don't talk about at parties, I know that it really isn't a disaster unless I see Karen Blacks wandering eye distracted by that gaping hole. How the suction from that hole doesn't suck that eye of hers straight, i will never know.)
