Julia's Eyes, the new horror film that reunites producer Guillermo Del Toro and
Orphanage star Belén Rueda, played at the Toronto Film Festival and at Fantastic Fest earlier this year and got some pretty strong notices. Strong enough to get
me bitching about wanting to see it at least. So cue my excitement upon seeing it's playing here in New York tomorrow night! This weekend Lincoln Center is having their annual program
Spanish Cinema Now - this is how I saw
[Rec]2 last year - and they're showing the film. Hooray! It still hasn't got a US release date so who knows when I'll have the chance to see it next.
They're also
showing In a Glass Cage, the 1987 film which
I reviewed back in September about a Nazi pedophile trapped in an iron lung and the disturbed - to put it mildly - young man who comes to torment him. It's a tremendously disturbing movie that made me tremendously uncomfortable... but I can't entirely say that I'm not curious about seeing it on a big screen. Oh, choices.

Definitely catch Julia's Eyes if you can (not that I don't see the benefits of a trapped Nazi movie). It may not break any new ground, but it works its atmosphere wonderfully well, has a very fine central performance, plays up certain horror film tropes and has a strong visual sense (playing with focus, loss of sight, etc.).
