I've Never Seen Arthur...

.

... should I?
.

.
I ask because word's going around that my beloved Greta Gerwig might be slipping into Liza Minelli's shoes (sentence I never anticipated writing, that) as the girl that drunken Arthur falls for. Russell Brand has been attached to take over Dudley Moore's classic role for awhile now.

I thought Brand was very funny in Forgetting Sarah Marshall but watching the trailer for Get Him to the Greek for the first time this past weekend it occurred to me that he might be someone best left in small doses. We'll see. It's just a suspicion I got. But if it's Greta opposite him there's no stopping me. She's big doses! The biggest I can get!

I'm holding out hope that the remake might not suck. If they absolutely must remake it, Brand and Mirren seem like best case scenarios. And while I'm not sure about Gerwig she was delightful in "House of the Devil" and at least this casting is preventing them from going a more obnoxious route (I was scared they'd go for Z. Deschanel).

My real point, though, is that the original "Arthur" is pretty essential. Love it. The entire opening scene at the restaurant kills me every time.

I love Russell Brand, and not just in small doses. Love the original movie, and I think he's great for the Dudley Moore part. Gerwig could be a good fit for his girlfriend.

I also can't wait to see Helen Mirren take on John Gielgud's role. This is one of my favorite scenes: "Perhaps you'd like me to come in there and wash your dick for you, you little shit."
