I Am An Assemblage o' Links

.
--- Like A Peppermint, It Floats Away - Muckity muck I missed posting on The Film Experience's "Musical of the Month" series again even though it was the much-adored-by-me- and-many-that-matter flick d' Todd Haynes, Velvet Goldmine.

Christian Bale, Ewan MacGregor and Toni Collette may all press their high heels into my forehead as punishment. Right... punishment...

--- And who will play the metal top hat? Ridley Scott is really going to direct Monopoly: The Movie. I can't believe that it's actually happening, but apparently it is for real. The following sentence is even uttered:

"Ridley Scott... is now officially attached to helm the project, with an eye toward giving it a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic "Blade Runner.""

Yes, it will most assuredly resemble nothing more than Blade Runner. GAH! I don't know why I find myself surprised sometimes to be reminded that Ridley Scott is a hack, he hasn't made a good movie in 20 years, but still, he had a really good run for a little bit. Over.

--- A Little Green, Man - Word is coming out on Simon Pegg and Nick Frost's next collaboration: it's called Paul and is described thusly:

"Paul, the film, is a sci-fi comedy and Paul, the character, is an alien trying to find his way home. He then enlists Pegg and Frost, who are on a road trip that takes in Comic-Con and Area 51, to help him."

Greg Mottola, Superbad helmer, is directing the script by Pegg and Frost. Edgar Wright is producing. I'm just glad to see Pegg working with Frost and Wright again. Everything goes so terribly, horribly wrong when he strays.

--- This is why I will always read an interview with Guillermo del Toro:

"The fact is [that Hellboy II], even though it was dually sodomized by Hancock and The Dark Knight, still did theatrically better than the first movie."

Double-stuffed fun is just one of the many entertainments he brings to the table. There's more to be had over here, including word that he's probably going to release a director's cut of Mimic, a film I really like and am tired of everyone, including del Toro, maligning. Tired of it! But I'd still kill for a director's cut.

--- And finally, Final Girl needs a talking-down from the ledge of giving up on Halloween II. I go back and forth on its worthiness - and it certainly ain't a pimple on the ass of Part 1 - but whenever I think of the hot tub scene I do smile, so there's that.
