Tom Blyth Always Lands on Top

If any of you went to see the new Hunger Games movie The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes this past weekend then you maybe found yourself smitten with its leading man Tom Blyth, which these photos via VMan magazine seen here will make understandable to those of you who did not go and see the new Hunger Games movie this past weekend. Me, I went and saw the new Hunger Games movie this past weekend, and, uhh, me smitten. Not that that's the reason I just gave the movie a positive review at Pajiba -- click here to read it -- but it didn't hurt. Especially since his performance is so strong -- this should prove to be a real calling card for him! I remember liking him in Terence Davies' film Benediction but that role was small -- here he props up a half-dead franchise on his shoulders and he brings it right back to life. And as I say in that review this very well might be the best Hunger Games movie of them all? And who saw that coming in 2023? Hit the jump for a dozen more photos...

It felt like a miniseries forced into a movie.

I didnt mind the movie, but it felt a bit mashed together.

Blythe was definitely the star, Rachel can sing but was not believable outside of when she sang.

Haven't seen it yet, but pacing has been a consistent problem with the series for both the books and the movies. And I say that as a big fan. Even in the books-parts draaaaaaggggg on and then the action chapters rocket by with little time for nuance or character development or much of anything besides a glorified slasher film. (Quick name a tribute out of the 48 in the first two books that is not named Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, Johanna, or Rue-bet you can't. Nope-Gale was never a tribute).

And the book this was based on was the worst by far. Just pages and pages of not much we didn't already know. Ok, Snow didn't invent the Hunger Games, but he made them what they are in the first three books. Big whoop. I guess I was waiting for a reveal that I still think is planned in another book that never happened is why I was ultimately so disappointed.
