It's been very long -- too long -- since I have sat down and re-watched this, Atom Egoyan's masterpiece. It's been at least a decade, maybe longer. And yet I was going through the quotes that IDMb has listed for this film just now so we could wish the great Ian Holm a happy birthday today -- if he hadn't sadly passed away in 2020 he'd have been turning 91 today -- and every single line from this film is seared into my brain. Every single reading, every one. In the decade after this movie came out I did watch it frequently -- I had it on VHS and probably watched it a dozen times -- but still, this is a movie that just doesn't leave you, isn't it? I gotta watch it again ASAP. Where's the Criterion edition of this dammit? (It is surprisingly streaming on Amazon right now, though.)

I like this scene but Bruce Greenwood's scenes to me are the most affecting esp the one where he tells the girlfriend he always wishes she didn't show up.
