A happy birthday to Michael J. Fox today! I don't hold the homophobia of the above scene against you MJ, don't worry. I don't think about this very much at all actually, but I guess I must have watched it a billion times as a kid because going through the movie's list of quotes this morning on tis IMDb page I could hear every inflection of every line in that way you only do when you've seen a movie so many times it's burrowed itself into your brain. 

Homophobic moments like the one quoted up top were so prevalent in 80s movies that they did an entire supercut of them in the Celluloid Closet documentary back in the mid 90s, and so I was so immersed in them I don't think this one in particular had a dire effect on its own. It was a cumulative weight, but I sure did know that admitting to my boy-liking urges would terrify and repulse people. Thankfully now here almost forty years later (good lord) everybody loves us, our lives are great, nobody in the country is trying to make our lives worse anymore. Yippee! Party!
