Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

 ... you can learn from:

The Paper (1994)

Alicia: He derails his train and steps
over bodies to have a few beers?
Henry: What do you do after you step over bodies?
Alicia: I have a cigarette and go to sleep.

Happy 74 to Glenn Close today!

Do you think she should win an Oscar this year?
(I still haven't and will never, see Hillbilly Elegy.)

Having not read the book, I thought Hillbilly Elegy was pretty good, elevated by the performances. I think she has a very good chance this year, she's excellent in it.

Hillbilly Elegy is so embarrassing. It’s over the top poverty drag and so offensive.

The film betrays the characters, and the performances suffer from bad writing, and poor direction. Without a doubt, Glenn's worst performance.

HE is a disappointment but I’m perfectly fine with its two Oscar noms: make up is effective and Glenn is fantastic, as usual, as the leading character granny. Far from caricatural as her detractors use to say, she modulates well a role which on paper could have been, yes, strong but also monotonous. Oscar? Well, worse thespians have got it thanks not necessarily to better perfs

I loved the Wife, for her simmering performance. An overlooked role of hers I loved was the film Heights. She should have been nominated for that one.

They do give out Oscars as a sort of lifetime achievement award sometimes. Would be hilariously typical (i.e., embarrassing for everyone involved) if she won it for THIS, though.
