Name Them Normal People

.
I assume that one or two or heck maybe even three of you people have watched Hulu's series Normal People by now, given our current couchy circumstances -- the show's hella buzzy and it seems like a lot of folks are talking about it. From their couches. It's apparently an adaptation of a well-loved book by Sally Rooney directed by the well-loved-by-me director Lenny Abrahamson (he directed Room and Frank and The Little Stranger, all movies I like quite a bit) -- it stars Paul Mescal seen here (via)...

... as well as Daisy Edgar-Jones as a couple whose romantic lives intersect through college or something... and that's where I admit that I personally have not watched the show myself yet. But that's what we're here for! For you to tell me whether I should watch it or not. Okay I mean in all honesty I've already made up my mind, as soon as I finish re-watching Enlightened I am going to watch Normal People next -- I've already seen the photos of Mr. Mescal's little Mescal and color me already intrigued. But you should tell me whether you love the show or not, anyway!

I'm on episode 2 and it's been quite alright, I'm currently intersecting between this, my brilliant friend and gangs of London.

Mescal and Jones give raw, charismatic performances. Truly mesmerizing, even when their characters are being complete morons (as we are often in life). You want them to be together because of the palpable chemistry of the stars, but by the end, you just want them to be happy.

At my age...let's just say considerably older than a lot of your readers, I have to say after watching the first two episodes, that while the young leads seem perfectly right for their roles, I'm pretty sure I don't need to see yet another struggling with sex and coming of age series no matter how attractive they are. I know it's a much loved best seller but I doubt I'll return for more.

I read the book and tried to like it, I really did, but found it to be millennial trash.
