Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

Ernst: You're more lovely every time I see you.
Only this time, you look like the next time.

Daamn that's a great pick-up line, isn't it? Now I want you to imagine it's a 26 year old John Gavin saying that shit to you, and then add a military uniform to the picture, but first here let me throw a mattress on the floor for when you faint from imagining all of that.

I have never seen this 1958 Douglas Sirk movie before but you already knew that, because I told you that when I posted some gifs of, uhh, John Gavin taking a bath in it. I mean of course I did. But that was an entire year ago on this here occasion of John Gavin's birthday, and yet I still haven't seen this movie. It's hard to see! It doesn't stream anywhere and I always hesitate, even with these bonafides, to spend 20 bucks on DVDs for movies I haven't seen. On the other hand...

... John fucking Gavin.

I've seen it. Being Sirk of course it's worth the time. It's an interesting imperfect film with beautiful color cinematography and a decent cast. Though I wondered why Sirk didn't use his go to guy Rock Hudson, who quite frankly this could have used in the lead. Gavin is as always a gorgeous sleek piece of man but also as per usual he is wooden stick for most of the picture.

Here's a link to the film....in widescreen!

Gavin was a Republican so that’s a good reason to skip the movie.

I watched several years ago in Bologna where every summer it’s organized a much appreciated film festival dedicate to movies from the past (“Cinema ritrovato” is the name of the festival, which means Rediscovered Cinema). Yep, not the best from Sirk and gorgeous Gavin is outshone by his partner, Liselotte Pulver

I think I can bear up under Gavin's wooden stick long enough to gape at his bath scene. You say at the end he faces the camera and very slowly dries off while the camera moves all the way up and down? I'll cover my keyboard.
