A very happy 50th birthday to writer-director Noah Baumbach today -- Baumbach is currently enjoying very very very good reviews out of Venice and Telluride for Marriage Story, his new film starring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johannson as a married couple divorcing. The film plays Toronto next and then I'll see it my own damned self when it hits the New York Film Festival after that. It's really aiming for us critics with every damn fest, innit.
Anyway we'll have to see then just how much autobiographical content made its way into the movie -- Baumbach went through a divorce himself with the actress Jennifer Jason Leigh right after Greenberg came out; many people assume his (happily ongoing) romance with Greenberg's leading lady and MNPP fave Greta Gerwig had something to do with that, but the two maintain it came about after. The heart wants what it wants and everybody's heart wants Greta Gerwig -- I totally get it!
