For Sharon's Sake

.
This week's edition of "Great Moments in Horror Actressing" has arrived over at The Film Experience -- click on over to read a few words from yours truly on Sharon Tate's fine work in Roman Polanski's film The Fearless Vampire Killers. Tarantino got me thinking again about how much we were robbed of, even just as movie-viewers.

Hmmm...maybe I'll have to rent this. I thought Sharon Tate was untalented. I've only seen her in Valley of the Dolls and she was TERRIBLE, but then everybody was in that monstrosity. Perhaps need to see more of her work to really judge.

Anonymous: She wasn't totally terrible in Valley of the Dolls, because she was directed that way. She is really beautiful, but keep in mind that the director and screenwriter made a trashy movie based on a reasonably decent book. It may be pulp fiction, but it's a good read.

Look at some of the images in the movie: Patty Duke trying to flush Susan Hayward's wig down the toilet; Barbara Perkins laying in the surf with seaweed sticking out of her mouth; Sharon Tate with a bandaid on her breast, Patty Duke screaming in an alley on 48th Street. It should have been shot in Schubert Alley). The plot conflict of Tony being born with a hole in his head. Valley of the Dolls is the best bad movie ever made, seconded by Mommie Dearest.

Tate was also one of the secretaries on The Beverly Hillbillies. Give her another chance!
