That line certainly seems a potent one today, given our current political climate - really I'm just here to remind you all that Criterion is releasing this Hitchcock classic, a top fiver for sure, next week on blu-ray and you guys, this beauty's a beaut. It's a pristine 4K restoration for one, but the extras! There's new commentaries, new docs, new interviews, there's newsreel footage of Hitch and Ingrid Bergman chilling, and the one I'm most excited to check out: there's a radio-play adaptation of the story from 1948 starring Bergman and Joseph Cotten! I go back on forth between this or Brief Encounter being the single most romantic movie ever made, but it's certainly one of them two! (Any other votes?)

Of the two, I go with Notorious. Nazis, suspense, and that kiss!!!
Wow that's a tough choice. For furtive longing it's Brief Encounter but Ingrid and Cary are far more sexual than Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard and their romance more evolved so I think that gives them the slight edge but both are tremendous films.
Notorious is still my #1 movie for amazing chemistry, since I saw at about age 12 and first understood that characters being in love in a movie was more than just close-ups on two pretty people while swoony music swelled in the background.
