Crazy Rich Crouching Oscars

.
I'm still hoping that Michelle Yeoh can grab a Supporting Actress nomination for Crazy Rich Asians, so I'm doing my infinitesimal part to keep her name afloat by dedicating this week's edition of "Beauty vs Beast" at The Film Experience to Ang Lee's masterpiece Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - hell awards aside that's a movie well past being used for that series anyway. Click over and vote, please!

C'mon, you are reaching! I ADORE Michelle Yeoh but an Oscar nomination? In that clap-trap? Standards, please. We must have standards. No one can convince me that Crazy Rich Asians is even a good movie . . . Jeez, next you'll want that fanboy pablum, Black Panther, to be nominated for Best Picture!

Jason, my thoughts exactly. Michelle Yeoh was fantastic in Crazy Rich Asians, which is a highly entertaining movie by any measure (and all the more delightful because it did not include standard Hollywood Jennifer Lawrence-style vanilla). Yeoh's performance is particularly great because it avoids portraying the mother as a stereotypical dragon lady. She could have gone for parody or caricature but gave us something more nuanced and interesting. And damn, on top of that, she's beautiful at any age.
