Yellow Fonts & Whole Lots of Empty Space

.
Two posters for movies we're very much looking forward to seeing at the New York Film Festival in a few weeks were dropped online today (click them to embiggen) - above you see the poster for Yorgos Lanthimos' The Favourite, which stars the great and wondrous Olivia Colman as Queen Anne and Emma Stone & Rachel Weisz as two of the queen's most over-eager ladies-in-waiting, duking it out for her affections. We previously posted a couple of photos and the teaser trailer for the film right here. The Favourite is NYFF's opening night film. And next up we have...

... the NYFF's Centerpiece selection, which is Alfonso Cuarón's ROMA. The movie is supposedly at least somewhat semi-autobiographical and tells the epic but intimate (slap that on your next poster, folks) story of a family in Mexico City in the 1970s. I like how strangely similar the designs of these two posters are, with characters facing upwards surrounded by lots of emptiness, and yet the differences in design - The Favourite's surrealism versus ROMA's naturalism - clearly reflect what we're pretty safe in assuming will be their respective tones. Oh and since I never posted this here's the teaser for ROMA (I'm so glad I'm gonna see this on a big screen and not Netflix, which is where most people will see it):
