Quote of the Day

.
It was hard to pick just one quote from the interview with Kathleen Turner at Vulture that hit this morning, making this Tuesday into an exponentially greater day right off the bat - she calls Elizabeth Taylor shit, she drags Nicholas Cage and Burt Reynolds and the cast of Friends and all of the method actors, and she does all of this without seeming especially mean about it, just honest. I came out of it angrier than ever that nobody's giving this woman great roles in the movies anymore.
.
.
Anyway you should read the whole thing but I decided to share this bit  below about her two-time co-star William Hurt (in Body Heat and The Accidental Tourist) because it made me chuckle, and appreciate Hurt more in the process:

Vulture: I read in your memoir that William Hurt was into magic mushrooms. Did he ever try and get you to take them with him?
Turner: No, I never tried any of those things that he liked. Bill can be very odd.
Vulture: How so?
Turner: I remember one night while we were shooting Body Heat we were sitting around, and for some reason he wanted to talk about how we’d each like to die. I don’t remember what my answer was, but he said he wanted to be sucked up into a jet engine. You would find yourself in that kind of discussion with Bill. Then when we did The Accidental Tourist, Bill was sober, so there were fewer discussions like that. God, you did not want to get Bill talking too much.

In related, talk about Great Moments in Movie Staches:

William Holden above should be William Hurt.

Thanks for catching that, mac :)

The only person that comes to mind is Julia Roberts... but I was disagree with Ms. Turner's assessment.... but quietly though... she might slap me.

I think it's Jennifer Anniston, especially with Friends mentioned elsewhere, but it could be Reese Witherspoon.

Great article. She comes across as someone who would be fun to talk to and as long as you were as professional as she enjoyable to work with. If you weren't I'd say watch out because she'd lay you out without a backward glance!

Turner is the real thing, a real broad. And I mean that in the best way possible. Like Stanwyck was a real broad. Tough, honest but not rude or petty, I knew she was a star the minute I saw her as Nora on the soap The Doctors and that was a long, long time ago. She has a fantastic body of work. And yes, what a shame there are no parts for an actress so f*cking fabulous.

Reason 1,001 why I love this blog: Kathleen Turner is a bona-fide goddess and the interview, which I read earlier today is beyond. I wanted to hear the audio or see it. "Body Heat" is in my top five of all time. Hollywood screwed her royally, but she is a queen.

Agree with the above.....a great broad in the best sense of the word. As for the actress in question, gotta be Diane Keaton.

Kathleen Turner has zero fucks to give, and that's one of the MANY reasons I will ALWAYS worship at her altar. (My two cents worth -- the very famous actress who's played the same role for 20 years is Sandra Bullock.)

I like Kathleen Turner's work, fabulous or whatever, she's fun to watch, but it's not like she ever left you wanting more. I guess I first saw her on stage in the late 70s in Gemini. Later in her movies. Talk about an actress who always plays the same character! Pretty sure she's talking about herself.

NealB -- I'm guessing you haven't seen many "recent" performances. For instance, I'm not sure how much of a different performance she could give that the one she gave in Monster House!

Interesting that the top picks have already been mentioned in this thread.
