Armie Hammer Three Times

.
I know it's kind of a depressing day for those of us who love Call Me By Your Name, after seeing it all get shut out at the Globes last night, and that's fine - even with my cynicism towards awards shows I too would love to see glittering golden statues in the hands of every single person who gave us this astonishing piece of art. But the art is astonishing and the art is forever, and that is the most important thing. Hold this beautiful movie close to your heart and cherish it, no matter what happens over the next couple of months. The way it makes you feel, the wisdom it imparts, that has already changed you and become a part of you. One day twenty years from now you're going to be walking through a park and see the sunlight catch something and there you'll be, back "Somewhere in Northern Italy" again, with Sufjan singing inside your head and Elio and Oliver standing before you, reenacting their timeless romance...

Thanks for this. I believe CMBYN will be redeemed and the awards last night will be a distant memory.

I loved Florida Project and Ladybird this year, but neither made me want to be a better person nor fall in love with the leads and the director the way CMBYN did. (Nor see four times already.) Whatever happens with awards, Jason, thank you for being such an eloquent advocate for this film. It’s in my top ten of all time.

My husband has an issue with the age diff between the two leads in CMBYN. I don’t at all, and I was surprised he felt that way. Not sure if you ever posted anything about this before. The strange thing of it is I’m a lot younger than him, perhaps the same diff. We are about 6 years apart. As I’m writing this, I’m now realizing a discussion is on the horizon...

I'm glad it lost and I hope for the same at the Oscars.

Shawn, please update us on how that discussion goes.

I think part of the problem people might have with the age difference in the film is that, as good as Hammer is, he certainly doesn't read anywhere close to 24. If they had cast an actual 24-year-old, I don't think people would be AS squeamish about it.
