NYFF Diaries: Day 16

.
The 2017 New York Film Festival is plug plug plugging long still - it runs through this Sunday October 15th. Go see a thing! Two things! We've been keeping tabs here on what we've been watching at press screenings and public screenings and so forth, when we haven't been reviewing those movies properly over at The Film Experience that is. And here is what we are seeing this here morning...

October 12th
Mudbound (dir. Dee Rees)

I shamefully somehow still haven't seen Pariah so this is going to be my first Dee Rees film; I don't know what to expect. Besides that it's gotten great reviews everywhere it's screened from people I tend to trust, anyway. And that it's got a killer cast with Carey Mulligan, Mary J. Blige, Jason Mitchell, My Boyfriend Garrett Hedlund, Jason Clarke, Jonathan Banks and Kelvin Harrison Jr. (who I thought was terrific in It Comes at Night) all up there in a story about one white family + one black family working the same land in 1940s Mississippi. Stay tuned to my Instagram for pics from the press conference (most everybody's going to be at it) (yes that includes Garrett!) and here's the trailer if you haven't seen that yet:
