Great Moments In Movie Shelves #98

.
While it's patently impossible to choose a "favorite" set of the sets that Derek Jarman designed for Ken Russell's 1971 film The Devils, I'd be lying if I didn't admit I didn't always get a thrill from the library sequence. (I mean, duh.)

The scene is fairly brief -- it's only really a couple of long shots as the Cardinal (Christopher Logue) is wheeled around and plots with the Baron (Dudley Sutton). And yet Jarman built this massive prison complex jailing walls upon walls of enormous books the color of drowned corpses. It's glorious.

And it's all capped off by a swinging door cross gag.
What more could one ask for?

(PS have you voted on our Devils poll
from earlier this week? Go do so, please.)
