Teresa Wright was born 98 years ago today. I know she was a big star in her day - she was my grandmother's favorite actress - but I'm really only familiar with her via this Hitchcock movie. Have you seen it? It really is one of his best; it was actually Hitch's favorite movie of his own. As for her other work I have seen a few (Casanova Brown and Mrs. Miniver, for instance) but it's been a long time. I do love that she played the older woman to Marlon Brando in his first film The Men, though. Go get him, girl.

Brilliant actress. She got Oscar nominations for each of her first 3 films, winning Best Actress in a Supporting Role for "Mrs. Miniver" in 1942. (She was also nominated for Best Actress that same year, for "Pride of the Yankees".)
She had an amazing 5-year run in the 40s in a string of films that have become classics, from must-see "The Little Foxes" in 1941 through "The Best Years of Our Lives" in 1946. She lost her contract a few years later, and concentrated on TY and theatre after that.
Just found this note about a clause in her film contract on Wikipedia:
"The aforementioned Teresa Wright shall not be required to pose for photographs in a bathing suit unless she is in the water. Neither may she be photographed running on the beach with her hair flying in the wind. Nor may she pose in any of the following situations: In shorts, playing with a cocker spaniel; digging in a garden; whipping up a meal; attired in firecrackers and holding skyrockets for the Fourth of July; looking insinuatingly at a turkey for Thanksgiving; wearing a bunny cap with long ears for Easter; twinkling on prop snow in a skiing outfit while a fan blows her scarf; assuming an athletic stance while pretending to hit something with a bow and arrow."
Yeah, do yourself a favor, and settle in for the long but wonderful "The Best Years of our Lives", a deserving winner of Best Picture, even over "It's a Wonderful Life."
