Knowing My Fate Is To Be With You

.
Muriel's Wedding, aka quite possibly my favorite movie of all-time, is being turned into a stage musical! And not just anybody's doing it - original writer-director-genius PJ Hogan is writing the book himself! The only bad news about this is it's being staged in Sydney (aka the City of Brides, as the film's title-card tells us at one point), as in Australia, as in I hope it's such a rousing success when it plays next Fall that it gets carried across the ocean to our shores eventually.

There will be original music, as well as the great big pile o' ABBA songs that the film used to great effect. I am just guessing but here of course there will have to be a song called "You're Terrible Muriel" because there has to be; likewise "Deirdre Chambers! What a Coincidence!" But I think my favorite possibility would be a song called "Are You Black?" which will introduce David the wife-hungry Olympian swimmer to the story...

BEST (and worst, if it's only ever going to be in Australia) NEWS EVER!

Australia's range of musicals and theatre is limited so this is great news. Though Im not sure that we of Australia love Muriel's wedding as much as Americans do. I've had the same longing year after year with almost every play/musical in america/britain so count yourself lucky your much closer to the Gillian Anderson and Dancys of the world.
