Colin Farrell Has Long Beguiled Us

.
Sometimes I'll find myself on horror-of-horrors more mainstream corners of the internet and I'll see people who only horror-of-horrors half pay attention to the movies (can you imagine?) and more than once in such horrible places I've seen comments saying something along the lines of, "Why the hell does Colin Farrell keep getting work?" It seems insane to me, to even think such a thing, when he's been so wonderful in so many things over the years, but I guess if all you saw were Alexander or Miami Vice or the second season of True Detective you might have a skewed view.

For the rest of us this renaissance for the man in the wake of The Lobster can't be more welcome, and so I greet the news that he's in talks to be the male lead in Sofia Coppola's remake of The Beguiled with rapture. We previously discussed this movie right here -- if you're unfamiliar the role was played by Clint Eastwood in the original film (which is strange and delightful and which you should see), which is about a wounded Civil War soldier who gets nursed back to health by a crazy buncha crazy ladies who're hot for his jock. Geraldine Page leads the crazy ladies.

This being Sofia Coppola I feel as if the crazy buncha crazy ladies will probably be the new film's focus, and seeing as how Sofia's got Nicole Kidman, Kristen Dunst and Elle Fanning playing them, well, they will probably be worth watching too! Not to mention that Colin's already set to co-star with Kidman in Yorgos Lanthimos' follow-up to The Lobster, so I guess they've decided to become a new dream team. I'm in.
