Quote of the Day

.
"I saw the actor that plays Superman,
Henry Cavill, at the airport with his support dog...
That was a little disappointing. He's Superman."

-- That's from an article in THR (thanks Mac) about the ridiculous and gross "service animal" trend, in which people are using loopholes in the laws set up for blind people to fly with their seeing-eye dogs in order to travel with "emotional support" of the four-legged sort, and sure enough if you google it you can find tons of pictures of Henry Cavill being one of these people. These awful, horrible, selfish people. Look how big that dog is! What a dick.

I've read and enjoyed your blog for a long time now, but this is wrong. Service dogs do more than help the blind. I'm sure some people do take advantage of it, but many people are treated badly b/c of the misunderstanding of what exactly service dogs can do. A quick google search will show multiple examples of people that have been traumatized b/c of this. I don't know Henry Cavill's deal, but for all we know he has a legitimate reason for a service dog-and size isn't an issue. My friend's service dog is a Lab. Not a tiny dog, but a well trained one.

That lucky dog gets to sniff Henry's bum anytime he wants. I get he even gets to stick his nose right in the crack. That's the real injustice here, that we can't be that dog.

Correction,Sam, SERVICE animals are very well regulated professionals who are specially trained to perform specific, well, services like leading the blind or predicting seizures for special needs people. SUPPORT animals like the one pictured here are not well regulated, at least in the US, so it's impossible to say if they have any training or if they are just pets in vests. --RC

Correction, Anonymous,(nice CAPS) The original post was about service animals. Do you have one? Support animals do fall in the same category, and as I said, I'm sure some people do take advantage of this, however, many people in need of this have been traumatized by the misunderstanding that service/support animals are only for the blind. They are not.
