Pic of the Day

.
I saw the new (slash long long long awaited) horror film The Witch last night thanks to the fine folks at BAM, which you know if you read my raving mad with wicked glee review for it earlier. What I didn't mention there was that two members of the cast - lead actress Anya Taylor-Joy and Ralph Ineson, who plays her father - and the director Robert Eggers were in attendance, and there's a picture I took of them nestled beneath the ever-watching ever-vigilant eyeball of Black Phillip, horror. (I also posted a different but similar picture on Instagram.) I would be super surprised if Anya Taylor-Joy doesn't get a lot of work from this movie - she holds the center of its terrible maelstrom with ferocity and sweetness.

I have to admit that I was kind of bummed that Kate Dickie, the actress that plays her mother, wasn't there for the screening - I've loved Kate Dickie ever since she gave a searing performance in Andrea Arnold's Red Road, and she is always reason enough for me to watch anything on her lonesome.
