I Am Link

.
--- Creed Me - ComingSoon got Michael Fassbender to talk a wee bit about his upcoming video-game adaptation Assassin's Creed, which he'll start filming in the fall with his MacBeth director Justin Kurtzel and MacBeth co-star Marion Cotillard (they must've had a good time together!) - Fassy doesn't say a whole lot (he won't even give away which one of the game's many lead characters he'll be playing) but he does seem passionate about the thing, so that's nice enough. (PS that picture to the left is from a new photo-shoot, of which I posted a few more shots from on the Tumblr.)
.
--- Tops In Science - The second half of The Film Experience's "Best Sci-Fi Films" list was posted earlier this week, listing the Team's ten no eleven no twelve (there was a three-way tie for 10th place) favorite science-fiction movie from 1977 onward. I can't remember if I mentioned I didn't vote on this list, but I didn't. I was out of town when that happened. Anyway to everyone arguing that Eternal Sunshine is not a sci-fi movie, you are super duper incorrect. It totally is.
.
--- Lights Out - Yahoo has a new commercial for Jake Gyllenhaal's boxing movie Southpaw, but it really doesn't have much new to show that they didn't already show in the trailer we capped so I don't know why I'm even linking to it. Because I'm brainwashed? Let's go with that one. But hey, there are worse things to be brainwashed by than the taut pecs of a fine actor. There are, like, murderers and stuff.
 .
--- Horror Queen - In case you missed the news, Angela Bassett is indeed returning for the fifth season of American Horror Story, this one sub-titled Hotel. This will be her third time on the show, after playing with voodoo on Coven and growing a third tit for Freakshow. I know the show is camp but I hope she gets to pull it in a little bit this year - her two previous characters felt pretty similarly sassy and we know she can do more than that.
.
--- Muppet Max - Just two weeks until Mad Max Fury Road is out, can you believe it? We've literally been waiting for years - YEARS - for this moment. That's not even counting the years since the original films - I mean it's been years since Tom Hardy got cast and started filming it. There's a nice talk with Tom in the New York Times today (thanks Mac) in which he comes across as the usual weirdo. Bless his weirdness. Loved this:

"A question about the apparent ease with which he slips into very dark places with his characters yielded a minutes-long answer that included references to “Sesame Street,” Kermit the Frog, the Swedish Chef, his tendency to be “drawn to that which is a little bit odd” and to eschew making judgments about people, and his feeling that he was, at heart, “a face puller.”"
 .
--- Web Star - The battle for Peter Parker has come down to Tom Holland (who was so so very terrific in The Impossible) and Asa Butterfield, who was you know, okay, in Hugo and Ender's Game. Yes I am on Team Holland here. But Butterfield would probably be okay. I don't know. I wich it was still Tobey Maguire, for god's sake.
.
--- Big Gay Future - Have any of you read the "classic sci-fi comic" The Forever War by Joe Halderman? I hadn't heard of it but it's getting turned into a movie starring Channing Tatum and it sounds very strange. It's about a soldier who stays young through centuries because of space travel, and who watches as society changes into "one homogenous race, [with] the eliminating of heterosexuality and the speaking of a new language." Of course Channing's in love with a fellow girl soldier; god forbid he get down with that "elimination of heterosexuality" thing, sigh.
.
--- Marks The Spot - I'm more excited about the news that James Wong and Glen Morgan are returning for the new mini-season of The X-Files than I am about Chris Carter being there. Wong and Morgan, you oughta know, went on from making some of The X-Files greatest episodes to being the shepherds of the Final Destination series, aka my favorite aka the bestest series of ever and forever, amen. Wong and Morgan are each writing and directing one of the six episodes.
