I Am Link

.
--- Pool Time - Is it weird that after a brief dormancy (that's the nice way of saying a miserable failure of a couple of years) I'm actually looking forward to Ryan Reynolds maybe being able to mount a comeback now that it's mostly officially official he'll be making his precious and long-delayed Deadpool standalone movie? I miss his, uh, talents. Okay monstrously sculpted torso aside I do actually think Ryan can be a charming funny guy on-screen sometimes, and this is right in his wheelhouse.

--- Strange Fruit - As predicted the news that Benedict Cumberbatch is officially official as Doctor Strange is totally anticlimactic - who cares about the actual casting after months upon months upon months of speculation, ya know? Now we have to figure out who's playing Iron Fist! I kid, kind of, but I am kind of bored by Cumberbatch getting the part. He's getting a little overexposed, I think. Of course a rift in space and time might open up if slash when he and his partner in Tumblrgasms Tom Hiddleston, now both part of the Marvel Universe, share the screen.

--- Someone's At The Door - We glanced at the main slate for Sundance but after that they announced the Midnight slate and that's even more up our alley, you can see it right here - it includes Eli Roth's next movie Knock Knock, which stars Keanu Reeves as a dude (natch) sitting at home alone when two hot girls show up on his doorstep and fantasies turn into nightmares cuz bitches be crazy amirite. Anyway that link has the first pictures from the movie.

--- Lassoed Up - A dude writer's been hired to write the Wonder Woman movie; the same dude who wrote Joe Wright's Pan movie, which we just saw Garrett Hedlund flopping around in the trailer for. All this makes me think is once upon a time a dude writer named Joss Whedon tried to write a Wonder Woman movie, cue sigh.

--- Hang Left - I don't usually take up space here on the main blog to just link to our Tumblr but this batch of new pictures of Michael Fassbender walking around in shorts and being his usual bulging self - additions to the ones we saw the other day - are worth going out of our way for.

--- Dolan it Out - A bit earlier we heard the news that both Kit Harington and Jessica Chastain will be starring in Xavier Dolan's next movie; I haven't read this yet (lunchtime reading!) but IndieWire chatted with Dolan about at least the Chastain portion of the news, as well as the Oscar chatter surrounding Mommy and what's going on with the release of his movie before that Tom at the Farm

--- Gun Play - Seeing Joel Edgerton doing the rounds for Exodus reminded me this week about his troubled Western with Natalie Portman called Jane Got a Gun and I wondered wth was up with it, and here's news - it's been delayed yet again, this time until September of next year. I can't even remember who ended up actually in the movie at this point, so many came and went.

Wow, here's an actual human-written comment.

THANK YOU for saying that Cumberbatch is getting overexposed. I've been thinking the same thing. He's going to burn too brightly, too quickly, get married, and fade away.

Dr. Strange? After Turing, after Van Gogh, after Sherlock, after Khan, after Hawking? Can't he find a different type of character to play?

Although, far be it for me to criticize Michael's career, but Jobs? After he's done Jung, and several other outsider characters? I'd really love to see him play an Everyman kind of role. Maybe a comedy, maybe a family drama. Hopefully Trespass against us will bring something new. But I have my doubts about that Light Between the Oceans one. I read a synopsis of the story--could it be more trite? Woman goes insane because of infertility and throws husband under the bus? BO-ring!
