I Am Link

.
--- Devil May Drew - It's not really nepotism since they aren't technically related but I think that Joss Whedon's (well deserved) hard-on for his Buffy and Cabin in the Woods co-conspirator the human giant Drew Goddard probably had something to do with Drew getting the Marvel gig to run the Daredevil series that will be airing via Netflix. But this is good! Drew's the man. I'm so much more interested in this than I was five minutes ago - it wipes all the Affleck stench right off the character in one fell swoop.

--- DC Dark - Meanwhile they're not being nearly as mouthy as Marvel has been (although really Marvel's earned it with their untold kajillions of dollars) but DC supposedly is lining things up to go their own way with their superhero properties; one person who can't ever, not never, be shut up is Guillermo Del Toro, who is always finding forums to yap about things - seriously how does he do it? Anyway he says his Justice League Dark thing is very real.

--- Whipping Boy - The 50 Shades of Grey movie might have its stars - and hey look it's our first glimpse of them together on this week's Entertainment Weekly (hey Jamie) - but that's not stopping them from moving the movie back from its release date six whole months. I suppose Valentine's Day weekend in 2015 is a great choice place to land though. Oh and relatedly our pal Aaron has begun reading that book so we don't have to and summarizing it as his site, just like he did for Twilight. He is a saint.

--- Bard Up - I never wrote anything about seeing Mark Rylance & Co doing Richard III a few weeks ago (although I did instagram the moment!) but it was a fabulous experience, and I wish I'd have the forethought to get tickets to Twelfth Night as well. (The same company's doing both plays on alternating nights.) Now they're expensive and difficult, and I hate those two words. (Peppy and cheap! Those are the words I like!) Anyway here's an interview with Mr. Rylance about the plays.

--- Quick Change - Trading out Zac Efron for Nichols Hoult? Sounds like my bed on a Saturday night! (Ha, sigh.) Nicky's taking over for Zac (who apparently has broken his jaw? WTF) on Autobahn, a thriller about backpackers and drug smugglers and no speed limits! It co-stars Amber Heard so you know it's high quality.

--- Water Works - It's only a quick few flashes of doves flying and underwater shenanigans but here's the first bit of footage from Darren Aronofsky's Noah. It looks grand. Kind of like Malick meets... well Aronofsky. I'm sold.

--- Old New Flesh - There's a great big celebration of David Cronenberg going on in Toronto right now and Amir's there (god I wish I were) and writing up his thoughts on some of it at The Film Experience. There a life-size mugwump!!!

--- Black Queen - There's not a ton to see in the first teaser for Disney's upcoming live-action Sleeping Beauty spin-off  Maleficent except for a lot of Elle Fanning wandering through an Avatar meets Alice in Wonderland CG landscape... until Angelina Jolie wanders through cutting quite the figure in her witchy wardrobe. Seriously, I got chills seeing her in the outfit though. Angie doesn't tap into her scariness nearly enough. I'm psyched to see her go off.

--- Holla For Holly - Ask me why I adore Joe and really I could point to a lot of things, but right this second I'd point to this piece he wrote extolling the awesomeness of Holly Hunter. And it's all lovely and great until the final paragraph, where it gets straight-up outta-this-world awesome where slaps the smile right off Mark Harris for belittling the uphill achievements of actresses over 40.

--- Spook Stuff - Yesterday was the Final Girl Film Club over at Miss Ponder's Pace and they took on this year's big stinking (emphasis on stinking) Summer scary hit The Conjuring - Stacie felt about the movie pretty much the same as I did - what's the big whoop, people? (Here's my old review from way back.)

Maleficent Trailer: SO! FUCKING! AWESOME!

So long as it isn't centered around some innocent little blonde chick that can do no wrong and is every Aryan's wet dream, then this movie will win so much!
